Cannot Maximise Stats

So i had a bagon and with max ivs in both attack and speed. I was lucky enough to get the pokerus and i gave the bagon a macho brace for 4x the EVs. So i did all the EV training and the bagon got 255 EVs in each stat. It has an adamant nature so that should help increase the attack stat. But i don't have the attack stat at it's maximum.

Am i doing something wrong here? Have i made an obvious mistake or not? Please help

The pokerus and macho brace did give you a 4x bonus for your EVs. That's correct.
What pokemon were you fighting? Maybe you fought pokemon that gave you EVs for another stat or probably just miscounted on the pokemon that you defeated.

I was fishing in the lake of rage for Gyarados (8 Attack) and Magikarp (4 Speed)

Hmm... judging by the sound of it, you seemed to have done everything correctly. What is the characteristic of your Pokemon? You know, the extra bit of info like, "Hates to lose" or "Proud of its power". Even though the characteristic won't hinder anything, if its not a particular one, then it might be the reason why you're not maxing out. The following characteristics raise Attack:

"Proud of its power"
"Likes to thrash about"
"A little quick tempered"
"Likes to fight"
"Quick tempered"

If none of these match your Bagon's characteristic, then it's possible that it may be the cause. Since they raise Attack, you may only get maximum attack if you have both a beneficial nature AND characteristic, not just one or the other.

It's characteristic is Likes to thrash about. And the chap in the battle tower says it has max IVs in attack and speed.

(I bred this Bagon specifically to have these stats)

Hmm... in that case, you're probably just maxed out to the best of that particular Bagon. Remember, each Pokemon is different, and the max levels for a stat are more of a range then a concrete number. So... other than that, you are probably already as high as you can go.

I should add that this Bagon is now a Salamence and lv 100

Even so, remember, the max stat numbers are ranged (i.e. 295-325). So even if you have all the right natures, characteristics, and training regime, hitting the absolute top number is not always possible for that particular Pokemon. If you're within the range for the maxed-out stat, then that's about as high as you can go. Sometimes, close enough is good enough. Besides, the fact that your did everything right proves that you can reach that level, just not with that particular Pokemon. But regardless, you deserve quite a bit of credit for having the patience and putting in the effort to even come close to that top number. Good work.
