Aww. I used to love watching the Super Mario Bros Super Show as a kid. Used to rush home to watch it. Also was a cool wrestler back in the day too, whenever I did watch WWF with my older cousin (I didn't become a wrestling fan, more so until the 90s; watching it in the 80s was a rarity). May he rest in peace. I wonder what Cyndi Lauper is going to say.

Cindy Lauper? Oh yeah I heard about something with her...

*Wonders if you're a "youngen" =P lol*

He was in her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun video. He played the father in the video. Cyndi Lauper was a big wrestling fan and other videos of hers during that time seemed to have wrestlers in them. She was even in the first Wrestlemania. She was manager to Wendi Richter who wrestled against that Leilani lady, who was managed by the legendary, Fabulous Moola (yes, she is legendary, imo). Captain Lou Albano was in the first Wrestlemania too, but he didn't wrestle or anything for that one. He was just there with US Express, which consisted of that Barry Windham guy and Rotundo.

The history was interesting too. Since he was in her video (she asked) Vince came up with an idea and put the two against one another on Piper's Pit (Piper's Pit was pretty cool). So you know how wrestling storylines go. Lou pretty much felt she couldn't "manage" or something like that, if I'm remembering right, so to prove her self, that's how she ended up managing Wendi. Lou managed Moolah and Moolah and Wendi went against one another.

*Sighs* Another legend bites the dust. Of course, for me, I think of the Super Mario Bros Super Show and the Cyndi Lauper video more so than his actual wrestling, but to me, 80s and 90s WWF is way cooler than it is now.

What...he did voices on The SMBSS? ...HOLY FUCK. I never knew that. All I knew was that he died and was a pro wrestler (from the news there). But he did voices on the Super Show!? MY LORD.
He was Mario. He voiced Mario and he played Mario for the live-action portions of the show. Oh!! I remember one episode of The Super Mario Bros Super Show had Sgt Slaughter on there, so that was cool to see. Him with a fellow wrestler.

Had to bring this out folks... lol

So crazy. I used to rush home to watch this. Fridays were the really cool days, since that was when they showed Legends of Zelda.

Ah, that explains it. You're way younger than I am. Making me feel old since I watched the SMBSS when it originally aired. I know I saw the video original too, given my parents. lol So for the reruns of SMBSS, they never showed the live-action portions of it? They only showed the Super Mario Bros cartoon?

Here's the video.

The woman in the video playing her mother is her real-life mother.

It is sad news. I’ll always fondly remember Captain Lou as Mario from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

R.I.P Captain Lou Albano
