So for a little while, I tried to have separate threads up for each new dubbed One Piece episode that aired on Cartoon Network. Those threads didn't really get too many posts so, rather than continue posting those, I've decided to try having just one thread to cover all the new episodes airing on Cartoon Network.

This past Saturday, Cartoon Network aired "The Forbidden Sacred Ground: The Island Where He Lives and Final Judgement." In this episode, Luffy and his friends find out about God ("the king" in the dub) and how He rules Sky Island with an iron first. Meanwhile Nami, while cruising on Conis' Waver, sees His power firsthand when a massive bolt of lightning reigns down from the sky and kills an adventurer who happened to tresspass onto the sacred ground known as "Upper Yard." The episode ended with the White Berets, an army of enforcers, chasing after the Straw Hat Pirates for illegally entering Skypeia.

Here's Cartoon Network's schedule for the next few weeks:

12-29-2007
"Already Criminals! Skypiea's Upholder of the Law!"
01-05-2008
"Is Escape Possible? Eneru's IQ Test Is Set In Motion"

So...is anyone else following this series every Saturday night?

Did you get my PM by chance?

I said I watch it every Saturday...which is really hard for me because I get really sleepy from waking up so early.

I have never been excited to watch a dub like this...it's...simply perfect, I love it all, and it will be even better uncut.

When does Eneru show up? I read like...10 chapters of a scanlation and he hasn't shown up yet in there...

Will King be changed to God in the uncut version I wonder...

Yeah. Been busy, though :p

He first appears in Japanese Episode 167. As of this past Saturday, FUNimation is up to Japanese Episode 155.

Will King be changed to God in the uncut version I wonder...

We're hoping so, but there's no way to know for sure until the DVD's come out next year.

God ("the king" in the dub)

Ouch.

I was following the dub when I was in the States, but since I don't get the American Cartoon Network here in Norway, I fell off right after Luffy defeated Bellamy (most satisfying punch ever).
The dub is rapidly approaching the spot where I fell off the Japanese version too, so I guess I should try to pick up my watching of that soon.

I'm really enjoying the dub, but I don't completely understand why "god" should be censored to "king"? Especially when it seems the jokes are still written for it to be "god".

That is a network thing. "God" is taboo. So it has to be replaced with something.

I like how they are leaving the rest of the dialogue intact and only changing "god" to "king" it works out well. It actually makes the most sense seeing as in many societies the king is also considered to be god.

The lack of activity in this thread makes me sad. D:

There should be a new ending tonight, right? Faith?

EDIT: No new ending, but still. Pretty good. :O

I liked the scenes where Ussop was trying to keep everyone from incurring more punishments, While the White Berets were determined to give them more penalties.

And of course when Nami crashed the Waver into Captain McKinley. And the troops were like chickens with their heads cut off.

MY guess is that Faith will be delayed a few episodes. Maybe FUNi plans on switching the endings when they switch the opening to Bon Voyage.

EDIT: Actually, it seems that "Faith" actually starts with episode 157 so next week's episode should be when it starts.

You're right, the new ending came out this week. Also, with my not-watching-Japanese-version-ness, I thought that when Konis told them about the 'current', she was lying, trying to get them not to fear whatever took them to the Upper Yard.

The dubbed version of "Faith" is really good.

I love how Sanji was upset over the fact that Nami was wearing a T-shirt.

The captain Ussop line was great, as was Luffy and Sanji arguing over food presentation.

Mckinley needs a life. He is still stalking the crew all giddy waiting for Eneru to punish them.

Next weeks episode looks exciting!

It makes even less sense since the show has a TV-PG rating now. Edits like this shouldn't be happening anymore.

Then again, there are reasons that TV-PG One Piece is being more watered down than TV-PG Naruto. Hopefully, the edits will lighten up as time goes on.

As noted in a previous review thread, while it's TV-PG now, younger people who started watching it during the 4Kids dub are still watching it now, and so, they're probably bit by bit letting the edits get smaller. For the first few months, probably, they've been worrying about this. Maybe after the Skypeia Arc edits like this will lighten up even more.

I understand all that. At the same time...the continuity thing is inconsistent. They apply TV-Y7-like edits to the show to make it more like 4Kids' version and keep all the name changes from the previous dub, but then they go and do a complete recast (instead of hiring sound-alikes) and retain all the Japanese music. The consistency argument just doesn't hold up.

Luffy, Sanji, and Ussop were great in last night's episode. The comedy and the dramatic scenes were excellent.

I kinda fail to see McKinly's logic in following them. Even if they did decide they were not going to the Upper Yard, what could he do to force them to go? Him and his men already got their butts handed to them once.

Man, there are skyfish all over next weeks episode, judging from the preview.

They're not adding the edits to make it more 4Kids-like, they're just only gradually going from TV-Y7 to TV-PG. They're probably waiting for the parents who care about this sort of thing that 4Kids was worried about to either make their kids stop watching it or realize that it's not TV-Y7 anymore. The names are kept the same in order to keep continuity, and because some people only watch the dub, not read the manga or watch fansubs. Other than that, they're trying to please the fans by NOT making any more pointless name changes, paint edits, music replacement, or americanization.

So yeah...I've been slacking off with this thread.

So first, I'll start with a list of upcoming episodes:

02/16 - "Profound Mystery! IQ String Test or IQ Love Test!"
02/23 - "Light the Fire of Loftra! Wyper the Warrior!"
03/01 - "Jaya, City of Gold in the Sky! Head for King's Throne!

Two episodes later (the March 15th episode), Enel finally makes his debut in the series.

Also! Here's the box office information for the Alabasta movie:

Yeah...limited releases suck.

I also assume everyone's heard about the uncut Season 1 DVD's coming out, right?

Im bring my opionons on this, thats y, but I do like the protagonist, stretch all u can!!!

That's a stupid reason. If this was a One Piece discussion thread, then it would be a valid post...but this is discussing the current arc that is currently airing on TV.

So it's still a bit off until Enel shows up? What a rip off. D:
