Bond is back!
On November 17th, Casino Royale, the 21st Bond film, will be released in theaters here in the U.S.
Being a diehard Bond fan, I am very excited.
Also hopeful. Hopeful that Craig can deliver. Also that this will make up for the agonizing monstrosity that was Die Another Day. :(
So, anyone else as excited as I am?

Daniel Craig is a chav, not James Bond. Also, no Q = Autophail.

I'm not really looking forward to this at all. I actually (mostly) liked Die Another Day. It was let down by a hack ending, lame villain and Madonna trying to act (*shudders*) but other than that, it was enjoyable.

This, on the other hand, is... ugh. James Bond is meant to be charismatic, suave and all that crap. Daniel Craig couldn't be any of that if he tried. He'll be going up to M's desk and going "Awigh' Darlin'? Got any fukin' goffs need put down luv?".

Yeah, I am also skeptical of Daniel Craig's ability to do James Bond justice. Craig just...seems to lack...any credibility as a debonaire nigh-antihero.

Also, I like Die Another Day. The writing was a tad hackneyed...but overall, I'd call the film a successful venture in giving Pierce Brosnan a final, interesting round with the James Bond character.

Curses to both of you. But it can't be helped. You aren't Bond fans. You don't own ALL the Sean Connery Bond films, and you haven't watched From Russia With Love, like, a billion times. I believe Craig will deliver.
And Die Another Day was totally incomprehensible. Plot, acting, action, all sucky. Casting Halle Berry was also a mistake, especially with that haircut. BLECH!
And Pierce Brosnan's age was showing. :(
Also, too many gizmos. The awfulness of that film made a reboot necessary.
Also, no Q = Autophail.
Desmond Lleweyen is dead, dude.
And Q was introduced formally in From Russia With Love.
So it wouldn't make any sense.
Ah, well. I can't expect enthusiasm from all quarters.

Casino Royale will be a welcome revitalization to the James Bond franchise, especially in the light of newer and grittier takes on the spy genre recently. Die Another Day looks especially out of place as a spy flick compared to the directions that the Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy, 24, and JJ Abram's handling of Mission Impossible III took. Something tells me it's going to be a while before we start seeing orbital satellite doomsday weapons in the Daniel Craig era of James Bond.

Bah. I like him as an actor, but introducing him to the Bond franchise was a big mistake. Bond needs to get back to being cool, instead of campy.
Hey, the movie had its premiere in Leicester Square yesterday, and the Queen was there. Nifty. Sometimes I wish America had some ceremonial royalty. ;D
The critics have nothing but good things to say about Craig's performance, which is encouraging.
It's currently got a 93% at Rotten Tomatoes, with 25 out of 27 critics giving the film positive reviews.

I came back from a 10:20 PM screening of Casino Royale.

BEST BOND MOVIE EVER.

I'm going to see it tonight with a friend. I hope it's as good as everyone says.

Oh, it is, it is. Daniel Craig delivers.
As well as Madds Mikkelsen and Eva Green.
I'll type a complete review here later, but for now, all I'll say is that I never seen anything like it. It's a Bond film, but not as we know it.

I've never been too much of a Bond fan, but I am definitely going to have to see Casino Royale after all of the good ratings and reviews it's had. The Bond series has had its ups and downs, but from what I know, this movie was an up for the series of movies. I'll be going into the theatres whenever Casino Royale screens here in New Zealand.

It was great. Daniel Craig owns the role completely, and Eva Green is a terrific Bond girl. However, I hope I'm not the only one who was hopelessly confused by the poker game.

When you live in a college town where pretty much everyone plays Texas Hold 'Em, everyone seems to gasp along with you whenever Le Chiffre and Bond revealed their winning hands.

It also helps to watch Celebrity Poker on Bravo frequently ;)

All I know is that whatever Bond had (a straight flush, right?) beat everybody else's cards. What did Le Chiffre have--a royal flush?

Not royal. Just a regular flush. Flushes, whatever the kind, always beat full houses. I've played a little poker, so the game wasn't as confusing as it might have been otherwise. It was good that they used an interesting game instead of baccarat. The card scenes in the novel were tedious. :(
I liked how the movie followed the novel, with its own twist on it.
Yes, I have read Casino Royale, as well as You Only Live Twice, Dr. No, OHMSS, Goldfinger (which is a great novel in its own right), From Russia With Love, and the short story collections. Ian Fleming was a great writer!
Random trivia: Ian Fleming also wrote the beloved children's book, Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang. I'm not kidding.
