I LOVE this series! My favorites are:
5.Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse
4.Castlevania Dracula X Rondo Of Blood
3.Castlevania
2.Castlevania: Symphony of The Night
1.Super Castlevania 4
Anyone else play these games?

This is one of my favorite vg tunes. This obviously sounds real good and I think the instrumentation is great.I have no complaints about the style either.I think the arrangement is kind of lazy though. The first phrase of the melody is repeated way way too often, especially in the second section. It's just the same phrase over and over with some soloing interspersed. It gets really tiring and makes the mix feel kinda empty and unfinished, like Josh was on autopilot. After some cool things going on in the first couple parts of the mix,it kind of floats into direction for too long without accomplishing anything. These ideas have a lot of potential and I know Josh is perfectly capable of pushing them lot farther too, which is what makes it so disappointing.

I've only played Symphony of the Night myself. I tried to play the older ones, but the controls are so stiff that I didn't want to bother.

FFFFF i adore castlevania <3
aria of sorrow is my fav, but i love me some lament of innocence & order of ecclesia as well
of course i've never really played any of them but that's besides the point

^More like Death Note: THE FIGHTING GAME, right?

Anyhow, I like SotN he most, if only for the music.

Well anyone who watches Angry Video Game Nerd probably appreciates Super Castlevania 4.

Reminds me... I wonder how the SotN port on the PSP is. I've been a little troubled by PS1 > PSP ports when I saw the lag FFT came with. It was playable, but it was a pain in the ass at times.

It's actually pretty good. No noticeable lag, and the script/VAing is generally better. You also get the two familiars that were exclusive to the Japanese version - they're just identical to two others, but they're still fun. Only downside is you miss out on "DIE MONSTER! YOU DON'T BELONG IN THIS WORLD!" and all that. You also don't get the areas exclusive to the Saturn version - so no Underground Gardens or Cursed Prison for you. Wonder what the level designers did to make the head guy hate them so much. But you can play as and fight Maria.

And since you mentioned it - FFT's lag was even worse in the Japanese release. They set out to fix it in the (U) and (E) versions, but it's like they just went "fuck it" halfway through. The Japanese version really does boarder on unplayable, however. Of course, I'm just stating conjecture there, but if it's twice as bad...oh man. Some of the extras kind of made up for it, though - but they still kept out that airship minigame or whatever it was.

Long Time fan of the Castlevania series. I’ve been playing this series since the original came out for the NES. Like many fans my favorite is Symphony of the Night, which I played on the 360 Live Arcade, but Super Castlevania IV has to be my second all-time fave, I love it when it came out on the Super NES and I recently got it on Virtual Console.
