Catch Piplup in Pokémon GO in January's Community Day Classic on Sunday January 4th

The Penguin Pokémon Piplup will be the featured Pokémon for Pokémon GO's next Community Day Classic event early next month on Sunday, January 4th. During the event, which will run from 2:00pm to 5:00pm local time, Piplup and its Shiny variant will be appearing more frequently in the wild, sometimes also having a Special Background.

Event Bonuses and Activities
The following event bonuses will be active throughout the event's 3-hour period:

• 1/4 Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed into Incubators during the event.
• Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event will last for three hours.
• Trainers will receive a special surprise by taking a few in-game snapshots during Community Day.

The following additional event bonuses will be active from 2:00pm to 9:00pm local time:

• Lure Modules will last for one hour.
• Piplup will have a very high chance of appearing at PokéStops with active regular Lure Modules.
  • Piplup attracted to regular Lure Modules will still have an increased chance to be Shiny, and may have a Special Background.

Additionally, Prinplup that are evolved into Empoleon between 2:00pm to 9:00pm local time will learn the Charged Attack Hydro Cannon. This attack has 80 power in Trainer Battles, and 90 power in Gyms and raids.

Field and Timed Research
Community Day Classic-exclusive Field Research will be available during the event. Catching Piplup will award Trainers with additional encounters with Piplup, along with item rewards including Stardust and Great Balls.

Trainers who check in to a Community Ambassador event will also receive Timed Research that awards encounters with a Piplup that has a Special Background, along with other premium item rewards.

Special Research
A Piplup Community Day-exclusive Special Research will be available for US$1.99 (or the equivalent pricing tier in each local currency). Trainers completing this research will receive a variety of rewards, including one Premium Battle Pass, one Rare Candy XL, additional encounters with Piplup, and three encounters with Piplup that have a Special Background. This Special Research can also be gifted to any friend with a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher.

Ultra Community Day Box
Beginning January 1st, at 10:00am local time, Trainers will be able to purchase an Ultra Community Day Box on the Pokémon GO Web Store for US$1.99 (or the equivalent pricing tier in each local currency). This box contains an event ticket for access to the exclusive Special Research, along with five Ultra Balls.
