Now, I understand that you CAN catch legendaries with poke balls other than the master, but it's a lot more difficult.

How many tries would it take to, say, catch a legendary with an ultra ball? Or does the number of tries vary from time to time or game to game or whatever?

Well I went through over 100 different pokeballs to catch Mesprit and still didn't get the thing. By the end I was sweating so much and cursing so many times I thought fuck it, I'll use masterball.

Right down to before it would faint. I didn't want to save the game cause all my pokemon had horrible horrible natures. The best pokeball to use besides Master is the Dusk Ball. I don't like Timer Balls but I guess if you used several you could use that. But I found it useless. But then I couldn't/wouldn't save my game. Hence why it was even more difficult. I was stupid and killed Azelf. Lol.

I got all caught up in the moment and spent the master ball on Palkia.

So many legendaries to choose from...so little poke balls...

Palkia and Dialga don't need the masterball to be used. In fact for me it didn't take long to catch them at all. Save the masterball for either Cresselia or Mesprit.

I usually get a legendary down to a few HP, exceptwhen its hard like rayquaza KOing itself due to confusion via fatigue.

Don't poison a legendary unless you know you can catch it that way. Paralyze it is better. For me legendaries don't like Ultra balls, buthopinto my great balls after a many few tries, but heatran hopped into a nice dusk ball, but suppose cause it was in a dar area.

I slao materballed Palkia and Mwtwo and Kyogre. SHould keep mater for roaming legendary like Latios or Legendary dogs etc... so you can catch atleastone roaming one easily

*sigh* Now if I only knew that before I fought the dang thing. Oh well. I'm not losing all my other pokemon just for one legendary.

Hey, are there any other legendaries that don't need the master to catch? Or is it just the mascot legendaries?

No legendary NEEDS a masterball or doesn't need a masterball used on it. I caught most of mine with duskballs

*goes to stock up on dusk balls and level up her pokemon that know scary face*

Dugtrio has Arena Trap, which prevents pokemon from fleeing, unless the pokemon is part-flying or has Levitate, which Mesprit and cresselia have.

Wobbuffet has Shadow Tag, which does the same thing as Arena Trap, but without the few exceptions that can still escape. Plus, even a level 30-some Wobbuffet can take a few hits, which if you're keeping them around to catch, will help some.

EDIT EDIT EDIT

I've got a Haunter that knows Mean Look, I was thinkin' of using her on the roaming legendaries.

Does having a say lv70 Crobat use mean look and switch to a weaker pokemon to false swipe the roaming legendary, will it still escape?

I think I went through 120+ Ultra Balls when I went after Articuno in LG, whereas the other two Birds cost me about 70 Balls each. They were difficult, but not impossible.

Shiny Palkia was so easy it was insane. First Dusk Ball I pitched at him did the trick. Sure he was paralyzed, but his HP was only in the yellow zone. I swear, I think he wanted me to catch him.

Giratina on the other hand...
When he finally popped up shiny, I just pitched a Master Ball at him. All previous practice attempts had ended in failure so I said "Screw this noise!" and went for the easy catch.

Yes, it will still escape. The Mean Look would have to be Baton Passed, which Crobat can't do. I think the fastest Pokemon that could do that are Absol and Smeargle, followed by Umbreon and Ariados (Spider Web, in that case).

I think Palkia and Dialga have like a 20% catch rate, even though they ARE legendary, that's what i heard anyway, took me 2 balls to catch my Dialga :D
