After watching 'Bye Bye Butterfree', it only just occured to me (while it probably has to everyone else several years ago) that Team Rocket are so less fearsome then they were before.

In said episode, Jessie was brandishing a sledgehammer while James had what looks to be two crowbars in hand. Jessie even swung and smacked Starmie with her weapon. Absolutely nothing like this now.

So that's the change I hate the most in the anime. Yours?

Wow, this thread is going to end well...

Anyway I'll just say dropping the GS ball with no real conclusion. I don't care about anything else. :p

OMG MISTY WAS AWESOME AND DAWN AND MAY ARE WHORES AND ASH SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT RIOLU I HATE THE CHANGE OF ASH CATCHING GLIGAR SCREW YOU GLISCOR!!!!1!1

Or not. Uh, Jigglypuff going from following the twerps to suddenly not for no given reason counts, right? At least provide a concrete conclusion to its storyline instead of it just wandering off and apparently ending up in a bear trap (Ursaring trap?).

Mmm, this is pretty picky, but Misty dropping off Starmie and Horsea always kind of rubbed me the wrong way... because she should have included her Goldeen too. XP So not really a change, but something that should have changed. That thing was totally worthless. Actually, I would have had her be rid of Staryu too and keep her Starmie instead. It could have learned a whole bunch of neat moves like Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Psychic, and Telport and have become her main battling Pokémon. But instead of providing some actual variety to Misty's team it's Water Gun Water Gun Water Gun Water Gun Water Gun Water Gun Water Gun.

...what was the topic?

Oh, yeah, while we're on Misty, shifting Togepi from mysterious move user to a piece of scenery was a no-no, as well as diluting her character. But that rant's been covered pretty extensively by other people.

Most recently, the ambitious start to Dawn's Contest arc that has tailspun into a halfhearted attempt to imitate the Hoenn Contest arc of late.

Brock's running gag.

James loosing his gayness

Dawns screentime. I say the show is about Ash and his journey. That was established in episode ONE.

and I dont think I even need to bring up the dub switch, but I will anyway.

I really need to disagree with Rocket-Dan becoming less fearsome than before. IMO, they started becoming a joke at the end of episode two, and then got goofier from there. Takeshi is a great example of a character changing into a joke, but I don't think the Rocket-Dan apply in this case.

As for changes I hate, I hate what 4Kids and PUSA did to the aforementioned Rocket-Dan. Bishonen does not equal gay 4Kids, and I don't know why PUSA enjoys having them snip at each other.

Less the changes in general as much as the fact that every successive change will result in an extremely vocal minority declaring the show Ruined FOREVER!

I hate how Japanese version has become this bland, flavorless product in an attempt to appeal to the West. Removing Japanese text and introducing that Tajirian BS, having everyone eat Western food way more often than they used to, not having episodes based around Japanese holidays anymore...it's as if the show's producers are afraid to let the show be Japanese.

Yeah, there's some traces of Japanese culture left in the show, but, for the most part, it's been very heavily watered down.

1.) Girl characters. They watered down Misty, and then replaced her with two fairly generic girly girls.
2.) Brock. He has no interesting personality anymore, or any decently defined goals. And then there's the whole running gag thing.
3.) Team Rocket. They are now just comic relief, incapable of doing anything truly evil/dangerous, and are about as fragile as a gerbil in a speedbag filled with broken glass (hehe).
4.) The show's agenda. Rather than trying to make ratings off of Pokémon's fad popularity, they are now just trying to advertise the games, making for less creative writing, and less artistic license (such as all Pokémon only knowing four moves, Dawn advertising the freaking Pokétch every 3 seconds, Brock having to narrate every gym match, etc.)
5.) Battles. Not only are the physics even less realistic than before, all physical moves are just hitting people with a glowy body part, and the special attacks clash with the animation style, and never have any variety. Also, the feelings of danger and pain are all but lost.
6.) Magical cupcakes. They're nowhere near as good as the old ones. I'll leave it at that.
7.) Gags and plots. Most of them are repeats, hoping the viewers have never seen the old show (Ash contemplating evolving Pikachu to help beat a Raichu owned by a character with stereotypical American speech, James' Grass type, etc.)

Paul and no one else because honestly, look it. Just look it! He abuses his Pokemon and if they're too weak, he automatically releases them. This is just sad. Pokemon are meant to be weak at the beginning to be trained, gain experience, and grow levels as the game is played. Now I know Pokemon Video Games do not equal anime, but he doesn't meet the top trainer's priorty. Anyone Paul beats is a waste of time to him and in my opinion, he is such a bad trainer and is just as worse as anyone else in the Pokemon anime like that one person who left his Charmander out in the rain back in the Kanto Episodes. I can't remember his name but it happened. Paul doesn't realize is that he could teach his Pokemon moves instead of wallowing or releasing them or even abandoning by kicking them out by throwing the Poke Ball. I'm not mad about anything else. Voice changes. Captain_Chris on SPPF explained that that they needed new people to voice the characters. That's why the voices changed. They changed nearly 3 years ago back in 2006. That was the time and year when it happened. There's even information about this on pokezam.com. You can read about it there. They switched out some people and does Satoshi Tajiri still voice Ash? I wonder if he still does. Let's see.

WTF! You really think Tajiri voices Ash?? Or even that he's a voice actor??

And the voices changed in the English version because of the change in the dubbing companies (4Kids to PUSA). Seriously, where did you read this bullcrap?

I admit i hated when they took Misty out. This was rather totally unexpected and in my opinion it was a big mistake. You dont take out a character that has still a lot of unused potential allowing for further character development and improvement and its a shame how first female protagonist and part of original thrio is threated in this days.Aside from that new opening,it feels like she has been completely forgotten and abandoned from writers side.

Aside from that i also didnt liked writers dropping GS ball plot and how dissapointing was in the end that Groudon and Kyogre arc during Hoenn.

But instead of providing some actual variety to Misty's team it's Water Gun Water Gun Water Gun Water Gun Water Gun Water Gun Water Gun.

It wasnt just water gun. Some of her pokemon used other moves aswell, like Corsola usin spike cannon and mirror coath,Staryu using quick attack and agility,Poliwhirl using bubble gun and double slap,Psyduck confusing,Goldeen horn drill etc.

But that rant's been covered pretty extensively by other people.

Honestly for the most part that rant was pretty much unjustified.Misty wasnt half as bad in Johto like some people were describing she was.If anything Brock was threated worse than she was.

1.) Girl characters. They watered down Misty, and then replaced her with two fairly generic girly girls.

"They watered down Misty?"

Again azagerating. In terms of personality during Johto she was with exception of being more calm, pretty much the same.

Misty was during her cameos more calm aswell with almost everyone saying how great she is and how she had good character development turning from little girl exploding over every little thing,to more mature and responsible person. She still had and has that firery temper which she used during Johto aswell, its just in smaller dozes compare to previous seasons, keeping it under better control.
But noooo in Johto she appareantly totally "sucked".

However her not doing enough during Johto is justified complaining and considering how writers were doing with everyone mistakes during that region(including Ash),they probably werent aware of this back than.

However times are now changed and writers have improved.

pokemon fan 132, stop getting so insulted on Misty's behalf all the time, for your own good.

The only change I really can't stand is TR's motto. I didn't like their Battle Frontier motto, and their Sinnoh motto is even worse. I really miss the first one.

That's also probably the only thing I have to complain, because "Prepare for trouble, etc." is just so awesome. Granted, it was usually the same, but I think, especially in Hoenn, they had a lot of variations of it. My all-time favorite is the one where Jessie and James sing their motto in the Lunatone&Solrock episode.

Well, that and Brock, who really doesn't seem to have much personality anymore, apart from that constant running gag.

James loosing his gayness

OK, and that too. I mean, there's also a reason why James is Gay-jokes have been reduced (but I won't get into that) but it still bothers me, because James used to be a lot funnier. But apart from that, when was the last time he cross-dressed? Seriously!

And I don't get the reason why people complain about the fact that TR isn't "fearsome" anymore. Were they ever? I mean, after their initial appearance, they have always been portrayed as clowns, and to me, that's a good thing, because there's enough generic villains in the world of television as it is.

This is pretty much it.

I don't see why people complain about the loss of James' "gayness". That was the part of the old dub I really couldn't stand.

I dislike that the show gets all epic, and ash is a super strong trainer after the BF, and that he sort of resetted again in sinnoh, where he is about as strong as he was in hoenn.
It also goes for pikachu, who is seen having trouble with certain pokemon, while it has already beaten much stronger pokemon.
