This topic for predicting changes as well as discussing things you'd want to be changed about the metagame.

Personally, I feel that it is inevitable that a new evolution of an existing Pokemon will make it into OU.

Some things I want changed about the metagame:

-Nerf Stealth Rock and Spike. I'm tired of carrying around a Rapid Spinner just to get rid of the effects. Maybe they could limit the turns the Spikes/Stealth Rocks appear to 8 turns or something.
-Nerf sleep status. It seems to be the most commonly used status effect in the metagame. It usually takes about 2 turns or more to wake up. The sleep status used to be offset by moves with low accuracy, but the introduction of Spore and accuracy boost of Hypnosis makes it a lot more viable. Perhaps they need to nerf the accuracies of those moves again.
-Nerf Garchomp. By this I don't mean reduce its base stats or limit its movepool more (otherwise people would just be importing their old Garchomps). They just need to introduce better counters to it.
-Buff dark type moves. Why does the strongest Dark type move only have 80 base power?
-Nerf sweepers in general. The current metagame is fixated on speed demons with choice bands trying to OHKO everything in sight.
-Balance type chart. Steel needs more weaknesses since it resists nearly half of all attacks. With five weaknesses, grass types need more super-effective targets or less weaknesses. Removing the ice weakness would change a lot in the metagame since grass types no longer need to fear the oh-so common water-type carrying an ice type move. Poison types need more super-effective targets. Why did they remove Poison>Bug?

Um, I'm sorry, but I thought it was the fans who designed the metagame. I thought GF did the main game and left us to organize everything else.

Now, I do agree that dark types need a 100 bp move, but not much else. The type chart is fine as is.

I would also like to see Poison-types see a boost with a few more types against which they are super effective; I really dislike that Poison only has one more type against which it's super effective than Normal has. Just seems...terrible...from that perspective.

GF doesn't give a crap to the meta-game, and I don't either (however, I could see single member family getting an evolution)

And that's why they added natures, abilities, redid the IV and EV systems and the type chart? Let's not forget taking away Hypnosis' increased accuracy in Platinum.

What...dude if all of these things get removed..you are left with Walls and Tanks and that's it.

-SR/Spikes/Toxic Spikes are a GREAT addition, they can win or lose you the match.
-Why do you think there is a sleep clause?
-lol Smogon made Chomp uber..he's already been "nerfed" because people like you cry that he can't be taken down.
-I lol'd really hard at nerfing sweepers. What the fuck is a competitive battle with only walls and tanks? I think you need to put better walls and tanks on your team.
-You wanna throw out sweepers and then balance out the type chart. What would be the point of that since you would have shit like Blissey and Weezing sitting on the field the whole time, remember you want sweepers gone.

So in conclusion only thing that should be changed is a few more Pokemon given better move pools imo. And maybe get a better tier system than one based on usage. Also get a better team.

Also, so what if Steels resist half of the types? How many types is it actually super effective to? I think its fairly balanced. The steel type gives up offensive typing in favour of being more defensive.

Isn't Steel only super effective to Ice and Rock? So yeah I agree Outrage.

-It isn't so great and makes certain Pokemon unusable. Shedinja can't be used after Spikes have been placed and poor Charizard loses half of its health upon entry.
-So what if there's a sleep clause? It is still annoying that Spore hits most of the time and renders a Pokemon useless for a couple of turns.
-Don't get me wrong, I like Garchomp. I just want it to be used again in standard matches.
-Really, it's an opinion how competitive battles should be. I personally like tanks and walls since they require a little more strategy.
-Like I said, I like tanks better than sweepers. But for this point, that's irrelevant. I mostly want the type chart balanced so that more Pokemon are usable.

I'm not saying that sweepers should be completely needed. They just need better counters. I'm all for introducing more usable Pokemon in the metagame. Also, don't get so worked up dude. These are only my opinions and you probably won't change my mind. Do you think the metagame should be changed at all or do you like it how it is right now? Go ahead, in this topic you are allowed to complain about the metagame. :)

-That's what makes them so great, they can dent a team.
-If it will, then there will have to be something really strong introduced in Gen V.
-But taking sweepers would be pointless, you can't have a metagame based solely on Walls and Tanks.
-How is it unbalanced? Because steel resists many times yet can only hit back Ice and Rock types for super effective...or has Scizor been pissing you off?

The only problem is tiers based on usage and about a handful of Pokemon would could use better move pools. Also I learned a long time ago complaining about it wont do anything :p

The reason stall teams require more strategy is because of the hard-hitting sweepers.

You need to optimize your EV's, your defensive type coverage etc. to beat those sweepers.

Stealth Rock is ridiculously overpowered and I hope to god if Gamefreak "fixes" anything about the metagame or competitive battling or moves in general, they'll halve that awful move's power. It is so unfair for entire TYPES of Pokemon to be rendered near useless because of one move or for anything to have 50% of its health lopped off just by switching in. It should do 1/16 for neutral (like one layer of Spikes), 1/8 for a 2x weak and 1/4 for a 4x weak MAXIMUM.

But in reality I'm fully prepared for Stealth Rock variations of different types to be introduced instead.

Stealth Rock is only a "broken" tactic because too few pokemon can actually remove it. If they make more moves in Generation V that can clear the field of entry hazards, they can balance the effects of Stealth Rock and Spikes without having to nerf the hazards themselves.

But in reality I'm fully prepared for Stealth Rock variations of different types to be introduced instead.

I do have a feeling this will most likely be the case. Maybe they'll even add more types of status-inducing spikes. In any case, new variants of Rapid Spin could make this less troublesome.

So true, so true.

I want a grasstype SR, then Charizard and Bug/flying type will double resist instead of taking quadruple damage. Also, this may maybe put some Grass/Poison types up in the OU.

A grass type would have to be combined with a type that resists Ice and Fire. Also if Sceptile get's a better Move Pool I can see him coming to OU....his speed is deadly.

Cradily and Torterra are Grass types that utilize Stealth Rock. Roserade is an OU Grass/Poison type. Who knows, maybe Venusaur can make it into OU if its usage is high enough.

I agree with Ryuu and Outrage; there needs to be a stronger Dark move.

What I mean is that the meta-game certainly isn't their top priority

Please note people that tiers, which the entire metagame orbits around, is created by fans.

Therefore, I do not think GF cares, because no matter what they do to fix the metagame, in the end we're going to find a different, arguably better way.

Bramble Patch maybe?
