Leo awoke. It was the big day. The day he got his first Pokemon.
He leapt from his bed. Pulling his red and black T-shirt over his head, whilst trying to put his jeans and socks on. He fell. 'I've gotta hurry! Vienna will get the best Pokemon!'
Trying again to multi-task, he fell and hit his brown-haired head against the terracotta wallpaper, his mother had said would be, 'Darling!'
Leo slowed himself. He finally got dressed and ran down stairs, slamming the door open and closed so hard, he made the Elekid figurine on his oak cabinet fall to the ground, its antlers snapping.
Leo sprinted through the kitchen, barely hearing his mother's cry of, 'You need breakfast!'
'I'll eat when I beat Vienna to the best Pokemon!' He snatched his red bike from the wall and leapt on, pedalling as fast as his legs could muster. Renee Village was at least half a mile from Lion's Village, where Professor Cypress' lab was.
Leo couldn't help but worry if Vienna SaintJohn had gotten to the lab before him. Rivals from being tiny babies, Vienna had become the bane of Leo's existance. He could not let her beat him. Every year, five children are given the chance to go the Lion's Village lab and be given a Pokemon. Leo Redwood got in - obviously - but so did Vienna. One advantage, Leo had to admit was the mystery. The trainers weren't allowed to know the Pokemon that were up for grabs, so the Pokemon were literally, first come, first serve. That's why Leo set off in such a rush.
His legs stung from the pedalling, which seemed to be an endless labour. He had to pedal faster. SaintJohn lived in Lion's Village and could have gotten the best Pokemon and left by now. He came the Marauder's Cross, a crossroads, one lane leading to Lion's Village. As he pedalled onwards, he noticed something.
Then he heard something. He stopped his bike. Screaming. 'HELP! PLEASE!' Leo looked on. A quarter of a mile down the road, a woman and a man struggled.
'Hey!' Leo shouted, beginning to pedal again, towards the couple. Aa he pedalled ever closer to pair, he saw the woman, an elderly, frail woman, clutching her swelling shoulder bag. And man, a tall, lanky figure, clasped in a white and bag jumpsuit, with a white, peaked hat atop his greasy hair that glistened in the dawn's light.
Leo pulled up, throwing his bike aside and running towards the man, he shouted again, 'Leave her alone!'
The man looked up. His eyes a fluorescent white, with a black crescent moon around his left eye. Pushing the woman aside, he drew a strange Pokeball from his suit. Its top was black with white crescent moon engraved upon it.
Throwing into the air, the shining light of the Pokemon's release glimmered brighter than anything he'd ever seen. As the white burst faded, an enormous Lunatone floated before him.
Leo stood back. He hadn't a Pokemon. And he surely couldn't fight a Pokemon this size on his own! As his swayed through possibilities, the Lunatone's souless eyes glowed an eerie purple. 'Psychic!' hissed the man, a sadistic smirk upon his countenance.
'Will O Wisp!'
A dark flame pulsed from behind Leo, as magnificent Ninetales stood proudly, as numerous more flames hovered around it. The woman stood, 'Leave now,' she growled.
The man sighed. He walked forward and sat upon the lowest of Lunatone's curves. The giant Lunatone ascended, before becoming a swirling purple hurricane and vapourising before their eyes.
'What?!' Leo remarked, wide-eyed. 'Lunatone can't learn Teleport!'
'Nevermind that for now,' the woman said, returning the Ninetales back into its Pokeball. 'I'd like to thank you for your help.'
She smiled and reched into a shoulder bag. Pulling out a large egg, she smiled again and passed it to Leo, 'Take good care of this egg!'
'An egg?' Leo looked down and examined the egg.
He looked up, to find that the woman had gone.
Leo took off his black jacket and fixed it around the handlebars of his bike, making a basket. He placed the egg inside of it and walked with his bike and egg to Lion's Village. What Leo hadn't realised was that Lion's Village was just over the next hill.
