I decided to move this topic here.

It wasnt enough true.

But that was writers respnsibility for not exploring more on her career and made her more prominent in episodes which would been of help to push her goal(like battling maybe Lorelei herself for example learning valuable lesson). And there existed lot of chances during all those travels with Ash(especially in cutting down on fillers in middle of Johto using it for something more productive).

If Misty came later in pokemon series she would probably be given rival, writers would dive deeper in her water pokemon master goal creating chain of competitions serving as follow up from what Whirl Cup established. Take ideas from manga such as Suicune choosing her as psartner helping Misty to better understand water pokemon and create stronger bond with them. Along with possibly entering tasks and battling evakuatirs to end upo as Lorelei, E4 Sibold or Wallace apprentice teacing her how to masterr use of water pokemon.

But Misty came in pokemon during OS when writers followed different formula with Misty dreams not being much focused until mr. Shudo left head position before Master Quest with more emphasis being put on adventure, human feelings and relationship development between characters which made original trio feel well imo so natural and enjoyable. Battles and more significant progression toward dreams wasnt top priority in early years of pokemon.

Resulting in Misty goals not being explored much. With most development coming in changing in personality sense becoming more mature, openminded and independent. Overcoming complex of feeling inferior to sisters, developing close friendship with Ash caring for him etc.

But i digress.

p.s. Apologies for bringing this up, but i felt some things should been explained about this subject.

But the 'Writers' or 'Producers' simply don't have an Idea on how to write on a character that have such a goal. Iris who wants to become a Dragon Master and Misty who want to become a Master of Water type did suffer the same fate. Underdeveloped, thats how I will put it.

Your point is valid, but with the whole lesson that Misty was underdeveloped doesn't seem to bother them as they simply rehashed it with Iris.

I have been following the show since I was seven, unlike a lot of people I don't really like Misty or the word nostalgia at all. Both Iris and Misty won a number of tournaments, beating Ash in the process. But did they ever manage to justify the win the pulled off? None of both of them. Atleast that is how I feel.

Misty might have been an unfortunate case, yes, but Iris is just an outright failure. The second time they did such a character, they still failed miserably. It might have been that the 'writers' or 'producers' simply don't have an idea on writing such characters. But I don't know, maybe Iris is yet another 'unfortunate victim'.

If I may at least throw this out here....I prefer Misty and Iris over May and Dawn mostly because I find them more interesting. Maybe it's just because I like battling more, and they come across as very strong-willed girls. Maybe it's because of their snarky attitudes? I don't really know, although I doubt it's completely the latter, since they did do it a whisker too much (everyone hates Iris for her habit of calling Ash a "kid" every moment she could. I can understand, that did get annoying. But Misty's habit of constantly criticizing Ash, only to turn physically violent whenever she herself was criticized, really wasn't any better).

Did Iris and Misty battle enough outside tournaments? Where the result is almost always a win at the expense of Ash?

Ash trained way more in both cases and deserve the victories. But then....

Think again, it might have just been me disliking Misty and Iris for beating Ash with absolutely no effort put into training on screen.

But the problem is, are they even a battler? Hardly outside of tournaments, and in tournaments they always make Ash's training look ridiculously ineffective. Its like saying you don't need to train to win. Its just sounds not right.

May and Dawn come by as strong willed too, I don't see any of them losing out to Iris and Misty.

If there is such scenario that Serena is a battler, I would really like her to challenge gyms too. And do constant training. Even battling with Ash, be his rival. Than I will feel that they are more of an equal. That if Ash lost in any tournament I won't rage in front of my computer and went all mad. I felt intense anger in my heart when I see Iris win the tournaments. That I almost flipped table on it. Iris didn't deserve it are the only words that pop up in my mind and those words proceed to haunt me the whole day, until I finally let the topic go.

How would I wrote Iris? Easily, give her a real rival. That Dragon Buster sounds dumb. And she rarely even appears. The second weakness of Dragon type is always Dragon type. She could have given up in training Ice Types to defeat Dragons and go for Dragon themselves instead (I did such suggestion on the BW create your episode thread, make Georgia battle a Kingdra, let her learn not all Dragon are weak to Ice, all but Dialga, which she won't be battling, are weak to Dragon). And make her appear more. Because Dragon Master is such a special title, Iris will feel more threat with someone also aiming that title. With a rival to push Iris, I would not flip any table when Iris won tournaments.
