I honestly think it would be a good idea to have a list here that has goals for characters for writers to use as a reverence.

Some I can think of right now would be Contests and Gym Badges.

What sort of goals can we come up with for this list?

uhhhhhh well

my guy wants to resurrect the god of chaos in his body and turn the world into his personal hellscape playground of murder and destruction

th-that's a goal

"To use as a reverence"......? Do you mean reference? To be a bit humble there is nothing in my characters' goal that will makes one feel adoring or worshipful :p.

OK, back on topic. I'm currently working on a journey fic (though not that much in the sense of the most traditional cliche journey fic kind). So I may as well write out mine for reference.

There are two protagonists in my fic. Although superficially speaking it is kind of true that my story is goal-driven, but more so often it is character-driven, even their goal is directed back to their own desire, past background and relationship with other people.
The first one wanted to become a stronger trainer than what he is now, hence he went into the route of professional trainer, where consequentially it means entering the league. The reason for his desire of strength is because of his (one-sided) rivalry and some hidden lingering emotion towards another trainer.
The second one (also the previously mentioned trainer) also wanted to become a stronger trainer than what he is now, despite already being deemed the strongest by almost everyone, because he never thought he is that strong, as he is still traumatize by his past experience whenever he send out his pokemon to battle. His reason for his desire of strength is to counter his trauma.

The goal is not that important within my fic. Because despite both protagonist are doing many things in order to enter the league, league is rather just a method in physical form to be used to achieve their respective personal intentions.
