Well, I figured since Rakarei already made a thread for Blaziken/Infernape here, I'd just make it's sister thread and complete the list of Starter VS threads while I'm at it.

Generation II was made to compliment Generation I in almost every aspect. The Starters are no different. If you look at the stats of the Johto Starters, you'll notice that they're the same as the ones of their respective Kanto counterparts, only in different areas. For example, Meganium has two stats at 100, defense and special defense. Venusaur also has two base 100 stats, but his are in special attack and special defense.

Typhlosion and Charizard however, have the exact same stat distribution, right down to a "T". This gives them the closest relationship of any Starter, in my opinion. The big difference here is that Charizard is part Flying. This removes it's Ground weakness but at the expense of an Electric and a 4x Rock weakness. The Kanto Dragon also has a better movepool, but the Johto Starter gets Eruption.

But regardless,

Which one of these guys do you prefer?

Which one is more useful overall?

Which one would win in a battle?

I'm going to choose Charizard because.... I don't really know. These two are actually some of my least favorite Pokemon. I'm just in a Charizard mood right now, I guess. Really, I like them just about the same (which is to say, not much)

I prefer Charizard because it can learn Dragon and Flying type moves, along with having a better appearance.
 
Gah! Another one of these... I hope I don't choose the minority...Again.

I choose The Typhlosion, because it can hit the Charizard with Thunder Punch fer super effective damage. It would OHKO a good amount of them, since the majority of Charizards I see are Belly Drummers.
 
I'd have to say Charizard. It's got alot more useful moves and looks a lot cooler.
 
This is probably the hardest choice for me, since I rarely use either Charizard or Typhlosion. Both look really good aesthetically, and I like the way they are typed, Typhlosion as a pure fire, and Charizard as the Fire/Flying. I guess I went with Charizard because I haven't used him in such a long time, and I did part of a play through of SS with Typhlosion and was left unimpressed.
 
This is a tough one. Charizard has the better move pool but having a double weakness to rock stops it from using its gtreatest asset- Belly Drum.

Typhlosion was my first Pokemon when chose him as my starter in the first game I played- Silver. So I favour it a little bit. Its still decent as a battler in the lower tiers.

I...can't choose! They're both so awesome, and they're both part of my HG team....sigh. Out of nostalgia, the fact that I love Gen.II and because I have a plushie of Cyndaquil..

They both reek of awesomeness, but I'll go with Typhlosion.

It might be my bias saying that Gen II is the best, but oh well.

I don't use Belly Drum. I'm all for Special Attack.

Anyways, Charizard, as every other starter, can learn Earthquake which can kick Typhlosion's ass (Typh can learn it too, but the 'zard is inmune to it). Plus, Charizard is my favorite Pokémon ever, and despite Stealth Rock, it can do massive damage.

Although I love Typh for learning Eruption, so it was not that easy to pick one Pokémon. Both are pure awesome.

I will never get why an echidna evolves into a badger. But I am not a huge fan of neither. I never was a huge fan of Fire-type starters. I think I like Charizard slightly more; might because he is a lizard and mostly orange.
Which one is more useful overall?
Charizard in-game. In competitive? Eh, probably a tie. Yes, Charizard is x4 weak to Stealth Rock, but gains immunity to spikes; while Thyplosion gets hurt by both.
Which one would win in a battle?
Rock Slide or Earthquake? Given that Charizard can boost it's attack with both Bell Drum and Swords Dance; probably him.
 
i cant choose! these are the two pokemon i would always start off with and never take out of my team >_<

Charizard. It's the only starter that's a flying type, which makes it automatic WIN.

Plus, I think it's more useful in battle. So...
 
Charizard out of Nostaligia, loyalty, and love of Reptiles/Dragons.

Also, Charizard has better speed and attack (Dragon Dance, Swords Dance and Belly Drum), whilst Typhloson relies on BP support. Eruption is also useless when you're caught by an Earthquake on the BP switch.

That's why you lead with Typhlosion and have Flamethrower/Fire Blast as a backup ;)
 
Charizard, it might just be because I love gen 1 though 'o_O

And btw, between the pictures you put "VA" instead of "VS".
