Whats the worst way you have ever been beaten in battle tower ?
By "worst" I mean the AI using really cheap tactics.
Today I was on trainer 27 and it was 1v1 my snorlax vs a jinx. I used yawn jinx used perish song ,jinx then put me asleep and the battle ended in a draw but it still counted as me losing :(
I also lost to a crawdaunt whos quick claw worked 3 times in a row and so did guillotine :(

OK, I was on a good winning streak again in single battles in battle tower and had a metagross, venusaur and tentacruel. I was facing opponent 7s pokemon.

I had metagross out first and foe sends out haunter. I keep forgetting that moves like Brick Break and Hammer arm don't affect ghost types, but I do manage a few meteor mashes in there, so I take quite a bit of damage and withdraw metgross with only 40hp left. Out comes venusaur. I use giga drain and get haunter. Then out comes mightenya and makes venusaur faint, I send out tentacruel, it defeats mightenya. But then out comes dusclops and tentacruel faints, out comes whats left of my metagross with quick claw.

Metagross has a slow speed, it goes first with quick claw and uses meteor mash (only 1PP left after this) and dusclops only has a few HP left, yay! (or so I thought yay) it uses shadow sneak and gains HP with is leftovers. I use meteor mash gaian and it misses!

More HP is restored with leftovers. Dusclops next attack misses. I use earthquake as its the only move that will affect it (hammer arm and brick break don't) "Dusclops avoided the attack!" it uses some attack and it leaves metagross with 30HP or so and more HP is restored with leftovers. I use eatrhquake again "Dusclops avoided the attack!" AAAHHH!!! Dusclops uses shadow punch and I only have a bit of HP left.

So I use earthquake (with 1PP) again ahd it hits! Dusclops has only a few hp left, good. No, bad, I only have moves left that won't affect it so I think "hopefully I can wear away few PP on moves that is left so it wil struggle dusclops to faint" and sure enough I get to 1PP left in hammer arm only and dusclops with only a few HP, but dusclops gets me!

Omg i had Really bad battletower faillures too x_x.

Once i started the battle with ambipom, garchomp and heracross.

Ambipom comes into a rapidash.

Fakeout hits, then a doublehit and rapidsh held on a focus band >>>>___>>>.
HORN DRILL!!! (bye ambipom).
Garchomp used earthquake! rapidash held on again and he used>>>HORN RAPE<<<
After my hera got horn raped too T.T.

Another epic battle...

I dont know what happned in this battle... but my scizor was my last pokemon left @ full hp against a gastrodon (also his last pokemon).
So i was doubting wether I should use swords dance and kill it the 2nd turn or if I just should X-sizzor him. I was thinking... Lol scizzor is never going to lose from a gastrodon... Whats it gonna do? So i X-sizzor him... less than half hp left. And then it countered me T.T x_x

Ill never underestimate something again... EVER!!!

And ohyeah Cresselia doubleteam-moonlight... i hate that >_> pwned me @ battle 69.

Btw nice thread =)

Nice post i was on the edge of my seat reading what was going to happen next.

I find it extremely annoying when an NPC uses Fakeout, or when they have a Focus Sash/Band.

Those tactics usually don't make or break the battle, but they're still frustrating.

(Plus, I'm fond of the Focus Sash myself).

I had bad luck with a Focus Sash-ing Gliscor yesterday. I had my Weavile (my last Pokemon) out. I could've set up a Swords Dance, but since Gliscor is 4x weak to Ice Punch, I decided to go for it. Little do I know, Gliscor was holding a Focus Sash. It used Counter to kill me. :( I think it was battle 37, by the way.

For my post I guess it was not exactly cheap, but annoying how dusclops kept avoiding my attacks, when they could have defeated it. But here is another:

I was in a battle with a drifblim with Rest, Charge beam, Ominous Wind and something else I don't remember. It was holding a chesto berry.

All I had left was a emploeon, grass knot, surf, substatute and blizzard. Holding leftovers.

I used substatute. Drifblim uses charge beam and substatue fades. I use tblizzard and it misses and then drifblim uses rest, but it fails.

I use surf, but it does not do too much damage. There is little PP on blizzard, surf and then drifblim uses charge beam and, critical hit, emploeon has about 60hp or so left. Then I use substatute, leaves emploeon with only a few hp. Drifblim uses rest and wakes up with chesto berry.

I use surf again, no pp left on it now. Then drifblim uses rest. I use blizzard and it misses, no pp was left on that. Only substatute and grass knot left. Drifblim is still asleep. I use grass knot, not very effective.

Drifblim wakes up and uses charge beam, it misses. Emploeon has over half hp back with leftovers. Good. Now, I use grass knot again, only a few hp is gone with drifblim.

Now, about 5 mins goes by with drifblim using ominious wind and rest. All I now have is PP on substatute, so I have to use that until I can struggle it out. But it ends up with drifblim using rest when I have almost struggled it out of HP and my emploeon faints and I lose.

I did manage to beat it when it came up again, but got KO'd by a counter slaking.

Gliscor with Guillotine. Somehow, it hit 2/3 of my Pokémon, including my Evasion hax Garchomp (Had sandstream running and Garchomp holding Brightpowder, which gives it 28% raised evasiveness, which SHOULD have given Guillotine 2% accuracy).

Youre right the focus sash usualy wont make or break a battle unless someones using the FEAR strategy.

Does anyone know more specifically the mechanics involved in the battle tower's AI? Like everyone here, I've had the same problem with supposed 30% accurate OHKO moves. A Dewgong of all things brought down my whole team with sheer cold I think it was.

Usually I don't make it very far because of dumb things like that (granted I do sometimes lose from my own stupid mistakes). I've never even gotten to Palmer's second team. I was almost there once when I faced a Crobat who used Hypnosis on my whole team, including when I switched my natural cure Starmie back in. Granted the 70% hypnosis chance is a whole lot more likely than the 30% OHKO chance, it's still ridiculous, and leads me to believe that the computer's accuracy is actually better than it's supposed to be...

And with only 3 Pokemon, it seems impossible to make a team that not only has all its bases covered as far as type coverage goes, but to counter all the cheap crap the battle tower throws at you. I don't know people have gotten to 100... obviously you need to know what you're doing, but does it basically just come down to luck?

The 3 OHKO hits in a row have a 2.7% chance of occurring. Small but not ridiculous.

The hypnosis has a 34.3% chance of happening thrice. 24% chance of happening 4 times in a row. Although the lack of sleep, freeze, and OHKO clauses is very uncool.

Yeah, you're right... but the fact that it seems to be a common occurrence among many people is what makes it ridiculous. Because of that, it doesn't seem like a freak thing to me, you know?
