I'm open to any advice on the subject. My 12-year-old son is having problems related to school. Both he and his teachers tell me that no bullying behavior is involved. He's in all advanced courses this year (he's in 6th grade) and I think he's just stressed out over having (a) a lot of homework and (b) school projects.

I think he might be depressed because his only physical complaints (stomach aches, headaches, and the like) are related to school. His sleeping habits are erratic. Depression is hereditary from both maternal and paternal family lines. I am considering having him evaluated by a psychiatrist or psychologist.

As I said before, I'm open to any advice, links, suggestions, or whatever.

Yeah, and I was really hoping to have my friend Kathy do it. She's a school psychologist but his school isn't one of the schools she visits. He's being very quiet tonight.

Definitely have him evaluated.

How's his social life?

The stress could be the key factor. How much non-school stuff does he do?

Ahhhhhh~ Yes, have him evaluated.

Advanced courses in 6th grade are a HUGE stressor, and therefore are a quick cause of depression.

*remembers 6th grade with a shudder*

How's his social life?
Pretty good for now. However, two of his friends will be moving to Mississippi later this year, and another friend of his moved to Georgia last year.

How much non-school stuff does he do?
Mostly he plays Nintendo or PC games. He's not on any school or neighborhood sports teams, if that's what you meant. Occasionally, he'll go for a walk or a bike ride.

I'm really beginning to think that it's his courseload at school that's the major problem.

Maybe he is stressed becose his freinds are moving or maybe it's a girl he has a eye on and he is having troble with making her a freind and she is going to a different high/secondary school then your son, which is very stressful.
