I'm really starting to question whether Chimchar is going to evolve at all at this point.

I mean, isn't it seeming less and less likely? It's had about 3 perfect oppurtunities to do so and yet hasn't even nudged or hinted at it yet.

Against Fantina, it was the one that took out her very powerful Drifblim, and if I'm not mistaken, beat at least one other Pokemon didn't it? It had very high level wins, and had the perfect oppurtunity to ascend in what would only be the fifth gym.

Against Byron in Canalave, even better! It put in WORK in that gym apart from the one win Gliscor collected. It totally handled the match on it's own for a great deal of it and really displayed impressive victories there. Perfect time to have it evolve.

And if they wanted to do it within Paul's presence, then they could've done that when it unlocked Blaze again.

I just don't understand. They can't possibly be holding Monferno off until the League unless it's against Paul, because otherwise, why not do Chimchar-to-Monferno so that we could see Infernape by the League? It doesn't make sense.

I'm really starting to think they're saving Chimchar specifically so that it could show it's worth as a base stage Pokemon, just as they did with Pikachu/Bulbasaur.

I remembering seeing some sort of Japanese toy adverts for the 12th movie that listed both Monferno and Staraptor. It was posted in the 12th movie thread awhile ago.

I'm sorry I don't have the link at the moment, someone could dig it up.

I think it'll evolve before July simply because we know there's some Moukazaru in the movie. If it ends up being a movie character's pokemon and not Satoshi, then I don't think it'll evolve.

I remember that post. But was it actually confirmed that they belonged to him? If so, I don't understand why they didn't do Monferno-to-Infernape by the time the league came.

Maybe after the Charizard incident, they think a full evolution line in only one region is excessive. But I just think, what better than to have Infernape-Tortrerra or something.

All the other gangs Pokemon was listed too, like Dawn and Brock's, so it seems odd to see Monferno and Staraptor listed instead of say....Chimchar and Staravia.

I suppose they could not be Ash's, but really, what are the odds?

Good finds. That's probably it then, although now that kind of bothers me. Because either we'll have a Grovile repeat, or we'll have a Charizard repeat with the rushed 2nd stage.

It's kind of awkward if that happenes too, considering Chimchar evolves to it's 2nd stage before just about any other starter yet.

The Staraptor on the promo might be a wild one and monferno might be in a trainer battle like in pokemon 4ever were he battled craconaw hopefully I'm wrong.

But only the gangs Pokemon and the legends were listed on that if I remember correctly...

Does anyone have a link to it again? I'd like to check it again myself.

I do think that both Monferno and Staraptor belong to Ash. Hopefully he'll have a Floatzel too - weird that there is no Buizel nor a Floatzel in that article.

Yeah, if those aren't Ash's Pokemon then they are seriously screwing with us.

A lot of people thought Chimchar would evolve in the Iron Island/Riley episodes, its a bit of a shame it didn't. I still hope it evolves right before Candice.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did just that, and it sounds pretty good to me, and besides, I'm still confused why people still think that Chimchar HAS to evolve...

Wouldn't be the first time...

Of course, whether or not if Chimchar (or Staravia or Buizel) evolve, it doesn't really matter to me, as long as they do great in the Sinnoh League. Preferably with Ash's older Pokémon as well, but that's a whole different topic.

While I do agree that that partiuclar mass of merchandise is more than likely implying that they are indeed Ash's eventual Monferno andStaraptor...I'm going to remain a wee bit skeptical about it. A wee bit skeptical, that is.
The monster collection red herrings have made me somewhat more wary of relying too much on merchandise to make accurate predictions. Granted, these are two completely different sets of products, BUT STILL :O

To show some form of progression and development outside of overcoming it's fears, I assume. People want to see it reach it's 'full potential' in order to show up Mr. Sunshine. That, and giving Ash a new pokémon type to try out. If so, I'd have to agree with both standpoints. They'd be nothing but beneficial, for both the story and entertainment value.

Yeah, while chimchar is small like it is, I gess it could still be afraid easily, but if it evolved t something bigger, it could have more chance to handle its power and not be so afraid. Its like in life when you grow up, you start of small and afraid of things, but when you get bigger, much of what made you afraid before just seems silly as your stronger and bigger usually then you were.

Let's put it this way, how many people would have loved to see Cyndaquil evolve back in Johto? I know most would have liked to see Ash with a Quilava or Typlosion, the only reason it didn't happen is because of Charizard's popularity back then. There was also the "cute persona" Pokemon Ash had in Johto. Even Bayleef remained cute and girly when it evolved, so he didn't have a single "badass" Pokemon that arc.

Seeing Ash with Monferno would be quite fun. Its battles would get more exciting to watch and it adds to Paul's story.

If they do the same thing like they did with Cyndaquil, then I will be greatly disappointed.

Me too. I'm doubting Chimchar will evolve at all at tis point. Every chance the writers get they blow it.

Judging from the Movie 12 merchandise, I think Chimchar would evolve by July. I mean the pokemon in the merchandise seem to be pokemon that will have a significant role and I doubt a random trainer's Monferno would have more of a role than Ash's own Chimchar. Not to mention, the starter pack of the merchandise lists: Pikachu, Grotle, Monferno, and Piplup. That could definitely be Ash's Pikachu, Grotle, Monferno and Dawn's Piplup. So it makes perfect sense for Chimmy to evolve by the 12th movie.

Not to mention, other than the Grotle evo episode, Paul hasn't been featured that much and the conflict between Chimchar and Paul hasn't been looked at since Chim-Charred where Chimmy displayed its power. I'm guessing that throughout the whole Hearthome and Canalave arcs, Chimchar's just getting some battle experience until the moment comes.
