I've been seeing a decent amount of discussion around when certain Pokemon games would take place or fit into a timeline, so I decided to adapt my own which was just in a document before into a more visually appealing graph
I have justifications for the placements of each game for the year they are set in
Potentially controversial decision, but I am also choosing to flat out ignore the concept of a "mega timeline" due to such a thing causing unnecessary clutter
Main Timeline A
This timeline consists of every mainline game as its original release, hence the obvious lack of any remakes
Main Timeline B
This timeline consists of remakes as well as Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon as I deemed the Ultra games to fit in without issue
Main Timeline C
The Let's Go! games. They cause lots of continuity issues and I quite honestly wish I could ignore them because of that. I should include them however so I put it in its own special timeline.
I am more than willing to hear any feedback/criticism as well as I intend to use this timeline for a personal project. If you also want to view a better resolution version of this, here is a link to the original document: Pokemon Timline Visualized
- Legends Arceus is estimated to be around the Meiji Restoration period (considering Red and Blue do follow actual historic events), hence my date of 1869 (130 years before DPPt)
- Most of the actual timeline is based off of the now deleted Matsumiya tweet giving an idea of when certain games take place up to XY
- Sun and Moon are 2 years after XY because of Grimsley's concept art from said games
- Sword and Shield are 4 years afterward since 2019 was when the game was released and it is also heavily implied to be after Sun and Moon. This is the same reason every other game after this is set when it is
- Legends: Z-A is 12 years after XY because Emma is obviously older and XY came out 12 years ago as of 2025
