I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought that ten years ago or even now, but HGSS gave us a few details that may strengthen the connection.

When you get to Fuchsia City they talk about the eruption and that the road is closed to clear the rubble. But they talk about in a fashion that makes it seem like it had only recently happened.

"The beach to Route 19 is closed indefinitely due to the Cinnabar volcano's eruption. I wonder if the people of Cinnabar are safe..."

The constructions workers talk about clearing the boulders away but still needing to level the ground.

And then in Pewter City we get this...

"...Yeah, and the gym in Cinnabar's gone. I was really amazed."

Coupled with Entei's HG dex entry...

"Volcanoes erupt when it barks. Unable to restrain its extreme power, it races headlong around the land. "

During the story you wake up Entei and he roars. Is it possible that by waking up the beasts you yourself caused the eruption of Cinnabar?

Also, since Suicune has a plot and Entei may have something going on here, AGAIN Raikou is left with no story or anything.

Raikou never has any story. In the games and movies (with the exception of LoT) also, I always thought the eruption had someting to do with entei. While I was at cinnabar in the original GS, I read his dex entry out of boredom, which says the same thing as what ryuu posted.

This.

And also, this theory fits all the holes in the patchwork of the games. I vauguly remember in Hoenn they mentioned something about a volcano erupting recently in the news(?)

I read Cinnabar Island's article on the 'pedia (the part where the island erupted 3 years after Gens I-III). Now that I saw this theory, I (sort of) believe it, with the player's awakening of Entei being the cause of the eruption.

I like that idea, and it is makes sense/and is reasonable.

This makes sense. And its not fair that Raikou dosen't get a subplot for once.

Yeah, I always wondered if that was the case. If it is then what did Raikou and Suicune do when they roared?

Problem with that is that it was explicitly stated in game that it happened two years ago. I can't exactly remember where, but I know an NPC mentions that it was two years ago, which does make it weird why they talk as if it were so recent. The problem with finding that NPC is that the dialogue changes in the game.

Also the Bulbapedia article just references the general timeline, not when it actually happens.

Besides, the whole roaring thing just seems like one of those urban myths.

Besides, I doubt Entei was actually sleeping, more like it was waiting for the trainer that would eventually challenge it. How many times has Eusine probably gone into the burned tower and not noticed Suicune?

Though, it does make much more sense in terms of their reactions.

Also saying "I was amazed" doesn't really indicate when it happened, just that it was a big event and that the person was amazed. The clean up, that I can see taking a long time considering the library near my house has been under renovation for like, four years now. Fushia isn't even a main port city like Vermillion so I doubt there were priorities.

I've yet to find that NPC but when I do I'll mention it.

I normally am the first to call BS on the dex, but everything sort of fit here.

Also, Bulbapedia is a wiki that gets updated and changed everyday.

I guess it does make sense now that you mention it but... still, Entei never goes to Johto. Then again, who knows how far its roars can affect the planet.

I think you mean Kanto. And it does in FRLG... sorta.

If you're still playing through it, then the dialogue should still exist as long as its before you beat Blue.

Also for the Bulbapedia quote in general:

In Generation II and Generation IV, three years after the events of Generation I and Generation III, a volcano erupted on the island, destroying everything except for the Pokémon Center.

The way it's phrased with the line "...three years after the events of..." in between the generation names just suggests that the generations itself take place three years after the previous. It's not actually that definitive, but the whole Entei thing makes everyone's dialogue more fitting. Though, I only remember the dialogue in Crystal, so perhaps its been removed.

Also, the dex entry says that Entei causes any volcano around the world to erupt.

Very interesting indeed... and now after I awaken it in SoulSilver, I'm gonna start having mobs with pitch forks and torches following me everywhere... haters gonna hate.

Me as Kotone/Lyra: It wasn't my fault I tells ye! It was Mother Nature, don't fuck with her!
