How do you imagine the different cities/towns/villages/settlements in Pokemon as looking like?
Obviously, cities would have more than 3 houses and 4 people.
Here is my personal interpretation.
Pallet Town: small town, pastoral, rustic, thatched roofs

Viridian City: larger town, arts and crafts/national park log cabin-style

Pewter City: neolithic/Stonehenge-style buildings, larger city, laid out in a regular pattern. Gym door has a Stonehenge-style dolmen entrance.

Cerulean City: Cape Cod-style buildings, on the waterfront, maybe like a waterfront town in Maine or somewhere.

Vermilion City: Large port city, made out of red brick, piers leading out into the ocean, large harbor.

Celadon City: Large city, art noveau style.

Saffron City: Large metropolis, generic modern city.

Lavender Town: small village Gothic/medieval style, nestled in foothills.

Fuchsia City: Arabian/Moorish mud brick.

Cinnabar Island: Hawaiian/Tiki island resort paradise.

...um... did you miss the anime? They did go to Kanto. Got kinda close-ish to how the cities looked... the main focus was Ash, remember.

I imagine them how the anime does...

So do I, except for Fortree and Pacifidlog--though the anime's rendition of Pacifidlog made way more sense than the games, which built a city on water despite having an island to the north and south of the settlement.

But the cities exist in more incarnations than just the anime. Besides, the anime can't decide how Seafoam looks, and that's only a city IN the anime.

I think Viridian would be rainy, since it's an "eternally green paradise" and all.

Cerulean City: Cape Cod-style buildings, on the waterfront, maybe like a waterfront town in Maine or somewhere.

Actually, most coastal towns in Maine are largely Colonial and/or Victorian, and the downtown areas are brick or granite block. (Yes, they are; I live there) Although it would be cool to have a town that looked like either description show up in the anime.

I always imagined Pallet Town just like in the game, except larger (with more houses) and a few roads... but that's it. A few houses quite separated from each other and a lake at the south.

Similar deal with Cinnabar. Except I do imagine the volcano of the anime, just smaller. The Gym is still on it, though.
Basically, north of the island is the volcano, east of this is the gym and west the mansion and labs at the south. South-east an small, traditional town and the beach.

On the other hand, I always thought of Viridian like a rather large city. Not nearly as large as Celadon or Saffron (which I both see as HUGE), but larger than say, Vermilion.

Thanks for your expertise. I imagine Cerulean as similar to Stonington, Deer Isle.

I see where you're coming from, but I never saw it like that. I've always imagined it as a collection of rustic log cabins right outside the forest.

That would be gorgeous. I haven't actually been there yet, but I've seen pictures.

Small confession- when I write fanfic, I usually base the locations on real Maine towns and use the names of towns in Maine. The locations and the names aren't usually matched though, just to make matters confusing.

It's a beautiful part of the country. I went there last summer, great place. Deer Isle is like Paradise.
That's cool that your area inspires your writing. I don't know if the stuff that I write is really based on southern California.

That's not the "sea". It's more like a river that runs west/east on the north side of town...

Yeah, it's a river, but the city is still like right on the water.
On an unrelated note, how far do you think the cities are away from each other? Hours, days? How long would it take to travel to all the cities in a region.

Probably it's around the same size as its Japanese counterpart...
Nah, I don't think so. I've always thought of each region, size-wise, from a large country to a continent or so -- they're just too large, both in-game and on like the movie anime maps. I remember reading on Bulbapedia that in the fifth movie, they show the "Earth" view of everything, and it's clearly a lot larger than Japan itself, nevermind the region.

Anyway. Traveling city to city would probably take as long as it would in our world, though being more traveler-friendly, maybe it would be easier. Ash & Co. usually come across a lot of side stories travelling from one city to the next. It seems to take a while for them, though sometimes I feel like it takes them about as long as a car ride would. It's a show, though. XD

Travelling an entire region like in the games... I've always imagined the whole journey taking about a year. I don't have a reason for it, though. D: Just sounds nice.
