(I'm not sure if this ought to go on the fanfic board, but it looks like there are only fanfic threads there (except for the stickied threads)...)

Are there any "classic"--in the influential and renowned sense--Pokémon fanfics? I'm not asking for personal favorites; I'm asking for things that are of at-least-sort-of-universal literary renown in the fandom. I'm actually not expecting that any do exist, because the fandom is very motley and fragmented, but I'm in hankering of a good read. :p

I think this oughta go in the fanfiction board, anyway. It's discussion of fanfiction, isn't it?

You know, if you want, I can give you a link to Cori Falls' (AKA "Queen of Rocketshipping") fanfiction. But I don't recommend it... I read this stuff seven years ago, so I'm relatively less prone to foaming at the mouth when I reread it, but people who weren't around for this tripe back in 2000-2001 are a lot more vulnerable.

Hmm, well I know that the classic (and first) pokemon Darkfic is Pokemon Master by Ace Sanchez. Everybody usually reads it sooner or later...

Scott wrote a fanfic? Link?

I'm working on my Max Death Note-esqe story, in which he systematically kills off everyone.

Isn't Scott's A Day Inside May pretty well-known? :p

I read that...

Now you know why I'm so messed up. :p But really, I'd be surprised if that thing isn't one of the more infamous works out there. I guess I can't criticize him for it though, he did write on a subject of his interest and with determination to boot. Gotta give him credit for that.

I read a rather good Pokéshipping fic called "Misty's Miracle" on SPP. You wouldn't like it if you don't support that ship---it's really heavy into it. All in all it's really a light piece of fluff, but it's written well and makes for a pleasant read.

EDIT: All the sigs are gone again...

I'd cast my votes for "Reunions and Resolutions" by Jaelle and Orla, one of the funniest fics I've ever read, as well as "Stars Fell on Pallet Town" by Spruceton Spook. Oh, and I almost forgot: "Love is Such Bitter Sorrow." ;-)

I think The Quest for the Legends by Dragonfree is really well known, it has been around for a long time. I don't think many fanfics age well, some of them just become famous for being well known :p.
And then there is Hoenn League: A Brendan and May Adventure, and Who Shot Brendan Birch by Breezy, The Legendarian Chronicles by Chibi Pika, The Trial of Juno by Neo Pikachu, The Chimera Children by Clare (one of the first pokemorph fics ever), On the Wings of Council by Topaz...Are just a few :)

Pokemon Master was like my bible for a year when I first read it. :p Looking back, it is pretty damn OOC, unfortunately.

Stars Fell on Pallet Town is another old favourite. I don't know much about the older fics, tbh. Contest Tie on SPPF is pretty popular, though - that one's recent, it was started a year or so ago.

Bit of a trip down memory lane back to 2000 or so...

Pokemon MASTER (Ace Sanchez) is classic. I'll disagree with Archaic, it has aged pretty well. The writing is better than any other I've seen of the 'fandom'. It's dark in the right parts, funny in the right parts, and has a good plot. It's meant to be out-of-character. Very easy to find still, just google.

Fire Strike (Uiru) -was- classic. It hasn't aged well at all. It's also getting harder and harder to find these days. Google 'Pokemon "Fire Strike" site:rpgamer.com' and you should find it.

Sibling Rivalry (Ross Jacobsen) would have been a good (but non-aging) fanfic if its author didn't die in the middle of writing it. People would call it a "Mary Sue" nowadays but the plot was interesting and good. The writing expontentially improves as chapters go up in number. Good luck finding it.

These were all written before Gold/Silver was released in America.

It's meant to be out-of-character.
I don't think that's a terribly good argument. :p

Really? :( How horrible.

Well, anything by Terminatress or Dragoness Bahumet at Pokemon Tower is pretty old... and fairly IC as well.

Not to blow my own horn, but it seems like a lot of people were turned on to doing XD fics after I started...

I wouldn't call my work influential though. I'm only starting to approach that level with my current fic and there's still a long way to go. I can't even read my first fic without cringing now, even though it set me on my way.

But again, it really seems to me that a lot of XD fic writers got their ideas after mine started.

^I tried an XD fic a long time ago, and it starred a little green hero named XD375. It didn't go too far, apart from getting to be my new nickname for my all-new super-special-awesome accounts.

BTW, Scott, Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Abridged Series has hit a delay, so I'm looking for another source of humour. Can you please repost "A Day Inside May"? If your posts are fun to laugh at I couldn't imagine your Advanceshipping fanfics. I've heard about it so many times, mostly spoken like it was a horror story they just read! I'm into horror and humour so Scott's fanfic would probably be great.

Yeah, TQFTL is a good fanfic, though Dragonfree revises it a lot. I really like some stories by Dragoness. I have read "Pokemon Master" and it did seem OOC compared to today.

TGB : You really gonna do a Bidoof parody fanfic? I love to see that XD.

I might.

Thinking about making it a horror spoof based on a movie I saw about killer fish once called "Snakehead Terror." Ash, Brock and Hikari venture into a mysterious town in Sinnoh that is beseiged by killer Bidoof and the legend of a giant Beadull in the lake....

I second the request for a repost of A Day Inside May even though I've already read it. It buries the needle on the lemon meter, but it is pretty damn funny.
