Hi everyone,

This is the community Create-a-Team thread. Together, we all will design a team, tweak it, test it, and alter it to as near perfection as possible. All decisions will be made democratically, so that everyone gets a chance to help out. Of course, since it is for the community, everyone will have a chance to use the team, and I would appreciate it if you could post logs of you matches with the team, to see how it fairs. Of course, we aren't that far in the process yet.

Now, the first thing you must do when creating a team is decide what play style it should have, and what it should be based around. Play styles include stall, balanced, semi-stall, hyper offense, and bulky offense (and sunny day, rain dance, baton pass, gravity, and other semi-gimmicky stuff) (if I forgot any tell me).

We are going with Bulky offense, it seems. We are currently deciding the lead. Right now the ones seriously considered have been Metagross, Swampert, and Bronzong, though others have been discussed. Please input your opinions.

We have found Swampert suports the pokemon we are using the best. Our current team consists of Swampert, empoleon, and roserade, though tyranitar, gliscor, and others are being considered

Your job is to suggest, in this thread, the playstyle and Pokemon to base our team around. Please also post an arguement for the Pokemon. Remember:

The team we are making is for the standard OU tier. This means when making suggestions, no luvdisc, and no Arceus. I'd prefer if we didn't choose an extremely common pokemon like scizor as our base, as that would make our team very stereotypical, but if everyone wants it, I'm game. What I am aiming for is a slightly unusual team that preforms well. Also, while we are planning to play in a meta-game where Latias is allowed, do not nominate Latias as it could be voted Uber by the guys at Smogon (It is being tested right now).

More will be updated to this first post as we get further into the process, so look here for updates. Right now, to recap, post your pokemon, and why.

People can't suggest Scizor??? For a OU team? Do you know what a tier is? lol...

Also why not nominate Latias? It is still listed as a OU Pokemon, if it gets moved to Ubers then we can easily remove it from the team.

I don't know what you mean by play style because I paid any attention to mine. I just use what I think is fun like Lead Trick+Scarf Azelf or Thunder Wave+Encore Togekiss. I like to keep the battle fun but also quick, I hate stalling. I know for UU I like to keep a bunch of walls and tanks around me, but on OU I mostly have sweepers.

If you want me to add anything to this I will...

The reason I don't want Latias is because if we start to create a team around it, then it gets banned, we have to start over. If nominations go on after the suspect test is done, then Latias is OK (unless its voted Uber). My main concern is last time it was voted 60% Uber, and I'm betting it will be Uber again.

Scizor is fine, but, as I said, there are so many teams around scizor, it won't be unique. Chances are, we will use scizor in a support role, because thats what its good at. If you want to nominate scizor, go ahead, if its voted as the most popular, we'll go with it anyway.

I would never build nor would I vote for a team based around a Latias or Scizor. I thought you meant we couldn't use them because of those things, not if we based the team around them. So sorry for overreacting.

We aren't even at the lead stage yet, guys. First pick something, then see if it benifits from screens, Baton pass support, staelth rock, spikes, toxicspikes, or whatever the most, then pick a lead. Also, I'f we're doing something like bulky offense or stall, P-Z is out of the question, so lets decide these basic things first.

Why? We have things like Metagross, Swampert, Heatran, Jirachi, Azelf, Celebi, Togekiss, Uxie, Aerodactyl etc...why pick a Pokemon that can't even use Stealth Rock?
I just like it. But yeah, I'm not really nominating it.

Okay. So how about Gengar?

I like Gengar, as it fits what I was looking for (though maybe not what everyone else was), a semi-common pokemon with the ability to compete in OU. I was also thinking of Empoleon and heracross, as both need the right type of team around them, instead of just being something you can slap on any team and expect to hurt.

I wholeheartedly nominate Dragonite. It's got the ability to support the team well, and it's offenses can pack a hell of a punch. If we're going for bulky offense, then I think Dragonite fits that description to a T.

We need a team full of lawyers, that way we can sue everyone else, resulting in not needing a team.

Or if we can't, perhaps a full team of Wailords or Chanseys or Budews.

Should adopt a strong hide in cover strategy for maximum effectiveness

I actually made a team around mix-nite once, which fair decently. We don't know what playstyle we're going for yet, BTW. Just because DCM suggested bulky offense, that doesn't mean it is. Izumoshep, you go sue off all the other players so our team will always win. Isnomsiac, Lucario also wokrs but I feel Mence is up there with scizor as overly common and powerful, but again, whatever floats your boat. Mix-mence is one of those pokemon you can throw on any team and expect it to work well, making it hard to base a team around it.

I'm partial to the Anti-lead set on Smogon, myself...but really, Dragonite suits most any style of play except hyper-offensive.

If we're going to have Dragonite I'm suggesting we put in Metagross or Registeel seeing as they can both play roles of being walls/tanks and will take the Ice and Dragon attacks very well.

Let the thread go on for a day or so so that everyone sees it, before we decide what to base it around. But yes, we would need a steel or two. Sub Heatran works well from my experience, as it screws over CB scizor.

*assumed this would be a more open team in which we vote for 6 Pokemon and work them to be as best as they can as a team and disregard tiers and such. quickly sees this is not the case and is limited to just OU, and is disappointed*

I'm still casting my vote to Cubone nonetheless.

The OP clearly wants a competitive team and OU is probably the most popular tier. Also Cubone wouldn't work outside of LittleCup or a very long and boring BatonPass team.

I don't see anything wrong with a baton pass team (added to first post), but cubone is just out classed, and shouldn't be used in competitive battling. You can't throw any 6 pokemon together and expect it to work. Maybe in an in-game team, but this wasn't posted in the in-game thread.
