Composition of Pokemon music

What resources are there to understand musical forms and styles that are, in general terms, representive of "Pokemon"?
Newb friendly composition software is welcome.

There's some leeway for debate, since the TV show dips into genres not typical of the main series.
But let's be reasonable. I don't have a vocalist or orchestra! :LOL:
 
Unsure about software, but there are videos analysing Pokemon music or explaining the techniques used in them. I recommend 8-bit Music Theory and Charles Cornell, but I'm sure there are plenty more in YouTube (especially for gen1 music).

I think general music knowledge would also be helpful -- music in modern Pokemon games are especially clearer about drawing from contemporary genres since they're no longer limited by hardware -- but I have even less to point toward in specific here.
