I was in one of the most frustrating battles of my entire Pokegaming history. Forget the legendaries, this was annoying as hell.
I was against a Girafarig with my Gengar, I was a whole 15 levels ahead of it. Things we're going well, it had half it's HP and I was all set for catching it when it confused my Gengar.

Then it happened.

No matter which move I did, every turn it hurt itself in it's confusion. For 20 turns the Girafarig attacked me, I retaliated but got hurt myself in the process until I fainted. Gutted.

My question is, is there certain Pokemon which are affected more by confusion than others? Only it seems to be the same ones constantly. Is it a pattern, or is it random?

Random, since the confusion stat sometimes misses. But the weird thing is, whenever I use a water pokemon ( The starter ) and it has confusion, it never hurts itself until about 5 turns later.

Maybe it's me, but maybe confusion slips off water types. Well...Hope it helps!

Oh, and dude, switch your pokemon out if it's confused so that way it won't get hurt.

Are you playing Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald? If so, it's a really good idea to collect ash and get yourself a yellow flute. It cures confusion and you can use it as many times as you want.

Yes. It's like flipping 35 coins and getting heads every single time: highly unlikely, but possible.

Well, I wanted Gengar as it knows Hypnosis, and I kept holding out hoping it would snap out and put it to sleep, ready for capture.
I'm playing Pearl, so I'd have to wait for Pal Park to transfer a flute over. I'm not too far away from the Elite 4 so it won't be long. Thanks for your answers guys.

I've noticed attacks that cause Confusion, like Outrage, seem to make the Confusion more prone to causing self-damage.

My experience has always been that pokemon who don't like me much end up hurting themselves in confusion more often...

Well, I usually press L+A rapidly and hope for luck..it usually works.

LOL, I love all these little "Home remedies" people use while playing Pokemon. I'm guilty myself of matching the rocking of the poke-ball with the D-pad. XD Anyways, I never knew the snapping out of confusion was random. I always thought it had to go away within 5 turns, (Since it always has for me). Is sleep the same way than?

Sleep seems more irregular than confusion, and always has me yelling "Hax!" at the DS. For instance, I put an enemy to sleep (not literally, calm down Generic Animal Cruelty Charity) ready for Dream Eater and it snaps out the turn after. They send me to sleep and end up doubleslapping me to death...

What always happens to me is I hypnotize them, then I set them up with a nightmare, then they wake up. Frustrating.

Confusion is probably the most annoying status in the entire history of gaming, sometimes it seems to be worse than others, but if your tank gets confused and you are in a vital battle its annoying as hell

You know, I once had a lvl. 42 pikachu battle a level 6 Weedle.

.....

Guess who won?

Gamefreak, because you paid for the game.

No, I'm kidding. Weedle? Though I don't know how that could win unless it poisoned you and confused you. Can a Weedle even confuse you?
