Confusion on the release date--Gamestop employee error?

I've got a question--probably an obvious one, but I'll ask it anyway--when I went and picked up my PCP on the 30th, I went ahead and pre-ordered my copy of SS as well. The employee who reserved it for me said I could pick it up on the 16th, but I keep hearing from other sources that it's released on the 14th.

I'm not sure if that was a simple date error, or if that just means my Gamestop won't actually receive the game until the 16th; though I can't imagine that would be the case, if it's going to be there on the 14th for everyone else.

It's not like my Gamestop is any farther away from civilization.

I read on the pre-order receipt that they only hold reserved games for 42 hours after it's released, so even if I did pick it up on the 16th, I'd probably be safe--but then, that's two days I could've already been playing it!

Should I go ahead and stop by on the 14th anyway, or should I wait it out?

Your thoughts?

They might have placed you on the waiting list, but just go in on that day and ask them.

I don't know if they would've actually had to do that; I can't imagine that a lot of people here pre-ordered the games so far. I'm pretty sure I was the only person who showed up for the PCP that day, because I hung around for quite a while, and didn't see anyone else.

Are you thinking I should show up on the 14th & ask?

Yeah, i am just thinking it was a error but just show up on release day and ask them for your copy.

All right. That's probably what I was going to do anyway. Like I said, if I could be playing it 2 extra days for double-checking, I'll do it. :p

Maybe the 14th is supposed to be the ship date? It hasn't been like that with Sunday release dates in the past... with Pokemon games anyway.

GameStop usually calls you (Aeris died so you won't hear from her) when your game is in... unless yours doesn't do that. You should probably call them when the day arrives if they don't call you first.

Gamestop holds for 48 hours, not 42. You could always CALL them now and ask about the release? Instead of looking like a moron and saying "game plz" when you may not even be able to get it.

...a lot of stores barely get the games a few days later, if not sooner. So they probably wanted you to wait just in case you go and ask for it while it still hasn't arrived yet...

Judging by how long they told you they could hold it for, maybe they meant that you need to pick it up by the 16th?

Isn't GameStop supposed to call you when your pre-order is in and able to be picked up anyways? I would say just wait until they call you to say you can pick up.

I'd call them right away. Just ask them "What is the relaese date for HG/SS?" They'll tell you the right date then.

I'm picking mine up on the 14th. ^^;

What he meant was, on the 16th if you haven't collected it by then they'll keep it, I was told the same when I pre-ordered Platinum, I didn't get it.

GameStop (or my local one, at least) always warns that it sells the games a day or so after the release date. Which sucks, because it won't be my local GameStop for a good week after. But don't worry, if you warn them in advance,(especially if you pay off in full before the date) they (or my local one, at least) will hold onto it well beyond the 48-hour mark.
