I think it's clear that this is a hot topic that people are going to want to talk about, so I figured, why not make a thread? :p

Naturally, be respectful and all of that good stuff.

There was a line in the direct which said, and i paraphrase, this is were it all comes together, more or less. I think there will be plotlines and characters reintroduced that may or may not clear things up. As for Zygarde, I definitely think there will be a post league Kalos. No way are they going to put the protector of KALOS in a new region.

I imagine we'll still get Zygarde's Formes one way or another. Because why give them weight and height stats if it's going to be "anime-exclusive", that doesn't make sense at all. Those stats are pretty irrelevant to the anime.

I'm very interested to see what happens from here on out, it's too bad we didn't get a teaser like we did with X/Y when they were revealed during a Pokémon Direct.

Of course there is a way, especially with the implication that the region is far from Kalos. They'll reference Zygarde's role in Kalos regardless.

It's rather silly to think that a single Pokemon requires revisiting Kalos as a whole.

"Z Episode" incoming.

Honestly at this point all I care about with Zygarde is the dog's base stats.

Hello fellow lover of Dogarde. :D

I wouldn't be opposed to a "Z" Episode. I really enjoyed both the Looker Bureau and the Delta Episode, so more post-game storylines are completely welcome in my book. And I do think that Zygarde's mythology has the potential to be interesting. I'm just not convinced that it is essential.

I know it's supposed to be the overseer of the Kalos region specifically, but that has never really mattered in the long run. For instance, the Lake trio are heavily involved in Sinnoh's mythology and have nothing to do with Unova, and yet there they are, in the Cave of Being in B2/W2. And of course Xerneas/Yveltal were said to be exclusive to the Kalos region in X/Y, but we'll just see how well that holds up. Just like Mega Evolution

Hmm, good point. Yeah, and as I have said elsewhere, its signature moves do exist in the code, and the Pokédex mentions its "secret power."

Of course, speaking of moves in the code - Light of Ruin. But I'm thinking that Eternal Floette could be as simple as a gift Pokémon, perhaps in the post-game.

Yeah the forms aren't going to be anime exclusive. I still don't get why people ever thought that was a possibility. Just because it will debut in the anime first and also because Zygarde isn't getting its own game doesn't mean that they are just going to neglect entirely.

And yeah dog Zygarde is cool :p I'm just hoping it's like 120 Base Speed AND allowed access to Thousand Waves. Because then it would be really fun.

Well, you know how the trailer says that everything is coming together? Well, I personally think this new region is going to be something no one guessed: Vietnam.

Not only is it an Asian country, which was the continent the series started out in, but it was also a French territory at one point. Not only would this make it more possible for a Kalos post-game while still being the Strange Souvenir region, but combining those things and having this game tie into the 20th anniversary would also allow Game Freak to have a chance at q unique plot point: What would you do if your culture was dominated by the cuptures of other lands?

That right. The biggest weakness in GSC/HGSS of limiting Johto's potential due to having to make room for Kanto will be the plot point for S/M. Basically, with S/M hinting at a connection to all of the previous regions due to being an anniversary game, there won't be too much room to have it stand on its own in terms of identity.

I'm not an expert on this, but I think Vietnam's culture is currently dependent on other cultures due to its history. So, why not make a family friendly version of this cultural conflict where the new region is heavily dependent on the other regions and tired of it? That would make an excellent anniversary game in my opinion!

Well, I had considered it, but I never thought it was a likely possibility. Really it was more just a matter of associative property, with the main question being whether or not Ash-Greninja would appear in the games.

And if the Zygarde forms do, then I am inclined to think that Ash-Greninja will as well. I do see the obvious impediment, but they've tucked anime references into the games before. All of Yellow, some Trainers in D/P, the Crown Beasts in B/W, and of course Alain in OR/AS. Besides that, Ash-Greninja is being treated as a "real" Pokémon by the TCG and spin-off games, just as Zygarde's forms are.

Regardless, I like how @Lufenian put it in the Future Speculation thread - it's more as if Zygarde's forms are the real "Munchlax" of this scernaio, as opposed to Magearna.

How SICK would it be if the Virtual Console versions of RBY had a secret ZYGARDE CORE programmed in and transferring it to Gen VII unlocked its formes and maybe even something like a Zeta Episode?

We don't know what GameFreak was planning to do with Zygarde at this point, but it seems that they rather move on and do something new than to revisit a region.

Good observation, I hadn't thought of the Vietnam/France connection. That's an intriguing possibility.

Connections to older regions and generations?

I've got a wish list.... Keep in mind I realize most of this stuff can happen, but let a man dream:

-Episode Z/Visit to "third version" Kalos post-E4/We get Zygarde's formes
-Primal Reversion of Kyurem or something like that, giving us the Original Dragon of Unova
-Red returns, maybe post-E4 tournament like B2W2, but in-game battle, akin to G/S but better, would be way more awesome
-A backstory that links all game stories together... Like that Pokemon war theory that goes around (but anything at all would be nice)
-A backstory myth that links all legendary backstories together in some sort of timeline... I was super excited when I saw the beginning of the Hoopa movie and I thought that's what they were going for (the art was really cool), but I should've known to keep my expectations low
-A thematic unification of the games.... Which would relate to the backstories at a deeper level.... So for example we have Space and Time, Life and Death, Truth and Ideals... But in some cases there's ambiguity... Ground and Ocean for Kyogre and Groudon, and then Ocean and Sky for Lugia and Ho-Oh? And what about Rayquaza? What does each legendary really represent? We can think of them as "Pokemon World Gods" that represent different aspects of the world, yes? But then shouldn't we have some explanation for overlaps? Like can we have a chart or something?
-We can get one starter from every region.... Okay, fine, more realistically, at least 4 regions? And we get to pick which regions we choose from?
-The first paired versions of a generation tend to have much fewer Legends outside their own generation... I would love to see many previous legendary pokemon in this game.

That's all I can think of right now, but I assure you there's much more.

Zygarde might not be in Sun and Moon which would be disappointing. Not sure if the next region would be connected to Zygarde and Kalos.

But that would Imply that the Zygarde forms are created exclusively for the Anime to replace the weapon plot from the original games (especially when Paris got shot up by terrorists twice in the same year).
