Say contests come back (which is likely), then what will the contest gameplay be? Will change again like Gen III to gen IV? Will it keep Gen IV's gameplay? Will it revert to Gen III's gameplay? Will it combine both? Invent a whole new gameplay? Or let us choose between the different gameplays so far?

Discuss what you think and want (and not wether you want contests back or not, we have a different thread for that).

I myself would like gen III contest mechanics, with dress up added to that. I hated the second and third round in gen IV. Why'd they remove combo's anyway?

That too. The anime has been doing Contests in an interesting way for two generations. GameFreak should pay attention.

I'd like a whole new game play with the same depth as battling.

I also agree with this.
Maybe Pokemon should have base stats on Contests types as well, after all. For example it's barely possible for Milotic to be compared with Purugly in Beauty, and likewise you can't have a Slowpoke that is smarter than Alakazam. I think that they could develop the gameplay a lot more than what it currently is.

But wasn't the essence of contests for almost every pokémon to be equally usefull?

I hope they remove the clothing round, its slow and annoying having to find those accesories, nintendo, litsen, User generated content and finding items does not adds anything to the game experience,Expansion in Moves and Combos does.

Also, like others said, make them more like the anime, having some main rivals for contest would be cool too(and they did that,in some way, with Johanna,Joey,Fantina and Jasmine...),that would make every contest different.

I'd like to see it go back to being only about the moves - the dressing up requires way too much time doing inane things to get good Accessories, and the dancing was just weird. Whether this means a return to Gen. III's mechanics (which I loved) or a completely new system, I don't really care, as long as it's move-oriented.

I think there's actually a decent chance of something like the anime happening now. I think there's enough room on the DS cards to program in the results of a lot of different move combinations for two-on-two Contests, even if it's just general guidelines like water + electricity = A, water = fire = B, etc.

i'd rather it kind of be a mix of gen 3/4 because i was kind of mad that they took out the part where moves could take points from others.

but I'd like it to be like the anime. contests are something that the anime gets right, i think.

Why is that the essence of contests?
Of course it does hold true and makes little sence to me, which is why I suggest it to change. :p
Just like in Battles; Rhyperior is by nature a defensive Pokemon, while it's pretty normal for Snorlax to have lots of HP. :p And then comes the effort; Pokeblocks/Poffins which would raise each contest stat up to a level.

I think it would make Contests have a deeper gameplay.

One thing I'd love to see is a mix of Gen III and IV contests!

-a prelininary round, where your Pokemon's sheen alone will be the first round of judging.
-a dress-up part. stfu, I loved dressing up my Pokemon. ;A;
-the attack/appeal round, filled with combos and jams.
-finally, the judging, where the victor is announced.

That would be a good contest gameplay!

Base stats would be nice, too. That way, no darn Shroomish will ever out-Cute my Shaymin again. D: Though both ARE adorable, aren't they?
