So, how's everyone feeling about Contests? Now I know that most people aren't really big fans but you TOTALLY must check them out! It's even a requirement to get that Black Trainer Card ^_^

And WiFi Super Contests with your friends, it's a bunch of fun, so go bake some Poffin when you get the chance and hop to it!

With that service announcement concluded...I have a few questions.

1. What's your favorite part of the new Super Contests?

2. What do you think of the individual sections? Should they have stuck with the old Contest idea of just a showing then an appeal?

3. What's your favorite individual event?

4. What's your best event?

5. What's your best Super Contest strategy?

I have a lot of trouble doing the dancing part of the contest. But I like the dress-up part... it's fun...

My least favorite part, as always, is berry-raising and Poffin making. The poffin mini-game is very difficult, and Berry raising is such a chore. I literally have to use my thumb for Poffin, as it doesn't seem to register the stylus at all.

I love the actual contests, though. I'm trying to figure out what would be a good Contest moveset for a Lickilicky. I also like that there are three interesting sections, since Appeals got a little boring.

Why aren't the contests online? I really don't get that.. :/ They'd be so much more fun if you could actually play it with other people.

Also, your screen must be b0rked Zeta, I haven't had a problem making Poffin at all. In fact, I quite enjoy it. It's far better than the annoying Berry Blender mini-game.

I'd have to agree, Zeta; it seems something's wrong with your screen. My DS (as well as all the others I've played) register solid points like the stylus and fingernails much better than a finger. If recalibrating your touchscreen doesn't work, I'd take advantage of the warranty you have. If it's still valid, anyway.

The Stylus works fine with all my other games. Kirby's Canvas Curse, Nintendogs, Starfox. It's just this one minigame in Diamond and Pearl I can't do.

I have to say I've never done a contest in the third gens, and I doubt I will this gen. The poffin baking thing is rather annoying with the stylus, but certainly better than the pokeblock thing was last gen.

4 player Contests are pretty great. My friends and I had a blast with the dress-up and dance portion. The acting portion gets kind of tedious though, but that's probably because we're not at the part of the game where we can be making good contest movesets

Actually, there are Super Contests online ^_^ Just like the Battle Tower, you can do it with friends!!!

I know what Zeta means actually, I find myself moving the stylus "harder" than usual.

Yeah...it takes some getting used to...

Are you sure you just aren't doing it right? It's supposed to be slow first then fast when it dries.

Making high level poffin is hard, even the high level berries dont cut it anymore, unlike last gen where I was able to make the best. In this gen, it appears that you can only raise the stat of one condtion if you are making poffin on your own, and I unfortunately have no one to bake with leaving my Poffin to be crappy 1 condition-raising bread.

I dislike the acting portion, but that's probably because apeal combos seem non-existant here, so I have to create new strategies, which is not that hard. I also dislike how it is only 4 turns long now.....

Yeah, Appeals have been totally reduced in importance. You can win a Beauty Contest even if your Pokemon knows nothing but Smart moves, for instance, since Contest Type only effects the chance of getting a high-voltage. The contests have basically been redone to be like the anime, where there really isn't a five-category setup. I kind of like that, but I wish they kept the combos.

I'd like to retract my statement on berries only raising 1 condition, I have made a couple that raise 2. I truely hate how all these berries seem so weak. Berries like the Watmel berry which would have been at level 30-40 (when I made it) or 50-60 (with the berry blend master) only go to the low twenties at best.

Since combos are non-existant this gen, people may have to play more strategically(assuming you didnt screw up the first two parts). I personally use the apeal that lets me score double the next turn. I only score 3 hearts at the most, but since the lowest scoring people go first, it lets me set something up like an Aerial Ace with atleast a minimum of 8 hearts. Again with only 4 turns to apeal, it becomes really hard, I usually use apeal combos for the first 4 turns, and on the last go out with a bang. The apeal stage also seems more luck based, with some moves having this as an effect:

"Score +15 if all pokemon choose the same judge"

or

"+ 3 if previous Pokemon hits max voltage"

Now for the dance competition, I enjoy that very much. Takes some getting used to, I can do 3 turn steps fairly easily, but 4 turn steps are hard. This addition is perfect since now people cant just win off of one round, they have to be a success in atleast two. I remember last gen going through the Normal and Super, sometines even hyper with just my visual appeal points.

Anyone notice Fantina participates in the Master rank Beauty Contest?

I've seen Fantina, Jasmine, and Johanna(your character's mom) in the several times I've tried to beat the Master Ranks in the Beauty and Cool contests.

Dancing is the one I'm worst at, but at least through Hyper I have the visual round and the appeals round to fall back on. But once I hit the Master level the visual no longer works for me, and when you combine that with my bad dancing, I always end up in fourth place.

Contests are ok, but I still haven't gotten really into them.

They're definitely a gazillion times better than the R/S Contests, that's for sure.

I think I'll give them more of a look after I finish all the other stuff to do in the game, but they really should have made getting the dress up items easier to get. The last part with the attacks for the appeals is still the worst part about them though. :/

Hmm, contest rivals? *wonders if they're trying to implement it from the anime*

That would be SOOO fun! Seeing as they've kept Contests from the 3rd Gen, I think they'll run with the idea. A rival specifically for the Super Contests would be AWESOME! They could have used Dawn/Lucas (thanks Geoffrey2004!) as the Super Contest Rival and that would have been really easy to do. Hmmm...I REALLY love that idea Geoffrey!
