Contests?

Pokemon Chamo-Chamo Pretty, too. Haruka enters Torchic in a Contest in the first volume.
 
Volume Four of Satoshi and Pikachu features a retelling of the Kaina City Pokemon Contest episode. I've attached a scan of what Shuu (Drew) looks like in this manga.

The manga Pocket Monsters RS also has Pippi entering a Pokemon Contest in the first volume. All three judges give Pippi a 0 out of 10.
