Could Alain be the 8th Gym Leader in Anime?

Well, I just saw the opening of the XY series once again, and it seemed pretty odd to me that right after the small cameo of the 7th Gym Leader, Olympia, Alain appeares. Could that mean that he replaces Wulfric, just like Marlon replaced Drayden? I know that it sounds pretty unlikely but with the release of Z game soon enough some changes may occur. Could that be one of them (although I know that Alain didn't appear in X/Y/OR/AS games at all)? I want to see Alain as Ash's mentor, either rival or gym leader, and not of another Character of the Day. Whatever they plan to do to him when the Strongest Mega-Evolution Act finishes, let's hope that will make his character better. :)

It seems pretty unlikely. Even if Alain is used in the next game as a Gym Leader, that wouldn't make him a Gym Leader in the anime necessarily. He's just been traveling fighting against Mega Pokemon, so I doubt that he'll suddenly be a Gym Leader in either the games or the anime.

I can't see it happening. For one, Alain hasn't been introduced as a gym leader by any character in any special he has appeared in.

Second, all of Ash's gym opponents have been gym leaders that you can fight in the games. Alain was invented by the anime staff.

And third, Alain seems to be only interested in battling Mega Evolved Pokémon, and he travelled to other regions in pursuit of that goal. Alain's behaviors would contradict the responsibility of a gym leader to stay at the gym and battle all types of challengers.

Ash's eighth gym battle opponent will either be Wulfric, or a Gym Leader that will be introduced in whatever "third version" Game Freak will release in 2016. That Gym Leader could be Alain, but I doubt it, as Alain's main Pokémon - Mega Charizard X - covers two types that are already used by members of Kalos' Elite Four.

Iirc, Wulfric was amomg the gym leader shadows during the first opening, and with how the anime is paced, I think they might get to Wulfric even before the next games are announced.

Roxie/Marlon was more a special case, and even then Drayden was still a gym leader - just not the eighth.

But is there a reason why this current OP deliberately not show Wulfric?
Maybe we do get a new gym leader?

Unlikely to be Alain though.

I doubt he is the last gym leader. Wulfric was probably not shown since it could be awhile before we see him or the eighth gym leader will be a new one from the new Kalos game(s, if any)

I don't think that will happen. I think it's more likely he could he a league opponent for Ash, but even that seems far fetched given that Alain has shown no indication of collecting Badges.

I wouldn't discount it. After this business with Lysandre is taken care of in the main anime, Ash might suggest to Alain to get ready for the Pokemon league, maybe there will be strong mega evolution trainers in the league which might pique Alain's interest.

They aren't showing Wulfric for the simple reason that we might get a very huge gap between Olympia, and based on the data broadcast Pokemon, Olympia even showing up in Getter Ban Ban is ridiculous to begin with, let alone Wulfric if it is a huge gap. I think it means that Alain showing up means it happens BEFORE Wulfric and after Olympia.

Probably that's the reason. That's how it will go, and Alain's Mega-evolution Act (if it's going 5 parts as I think) will finish in Spring 2016. I expect him though to appear earlier than that in the anime.

They threw in Alan to let us know he was coming. No more.

Besides, I'm sure I can't be alone when I say I do NOT want what happened in BW to happen here... :scared:

If you mean Roxie, Alain would be a more competent gym leader and I'm sure Alain would not lopside the match in Ash's favor, just so a bunch of Ash's Pokemon serve no purpose in the gym battle, except to lose to Alain's Pokemon. If you mean Drayden not being Ash's 8th gym leader, then I'm honestly okay if Alain were to hypothetically replace Wulfric. At least Alain would be like Blue in Johto and have a variety of Pokemon, which would make the battle far more interesting than just some ice types.

If maybe you are referring to Cameron, Alain has already shown to be more competent than Cameron would definitely be a much better trainer to lose at the league to than Cameron.

Tobias was also preety competent (if not at the Gym battle at least. How hard is it to catch a Darkrai and Latios?). Competence does not guarantee that people will cry fowl that Ash lost (again)

Also, when has it been established that Alain is gunning for the League?

I doubt it. He was already shown to be Professor Sycamore's assistant so I don't see how he could also be a gym leader.

What? No, that makes no sense. His presence in the opening likely indicates that after Olympia, the worlds of Ash and Alan will finally collide. I'm assuming that will happen as Lysandre's plot begins to unfold so we'll most likely be getting Team Flare as well.

Alain?
think of a fire or dragon type gym insted of ice?
dragon is more posibble taking that Alain had a Gible.
nice idea.
Would be once cool if Ash would get more then 8 badges.

YES 4 SURE!
who knows by the way
this is Pokemon 'anime' , any twist can take place 'anytime' 'anywhere'
they can even show that Wulfric is Alain's relative or something and Wulfric isn't able to have a match against Alain so Alain will battle Ash and he will win then Ash will go for training far away in the Kalos region (so that the anime's length would be able to reach atleast 150 episodes at the End of the series)

Leave all these things just watch Pokemon , believe in Pokemon :drowsy:
now it is upto the creators of the Anime

You say "yes 4 sure", but then you flat out admit "who knows, by the way"...so therefore, that's kinda contradictory to what you just said.

And, as I stated before, they may do twists, but these twists do not usually involve replacing established in-game gym leaders with random characters created exclusively for the anime. Only once has that happened, and that was in the Original Series, when Jessie and James took over from Giovanni...and that was literally to hand Ash his final Gym Badge on a Silver Platter.

...no? I expect the Ice guy.

Alain was invented by the anime staff.

Was referenced in ORAS tbf. Could've been ANYONE with a black Charizard that has met Steven I guess but it's obvious who he was referring to...
