I mean, certain characters of the show seem to be lacking in character development. Drew in particular is one for me. I mean sure, he's starred in many episodes and know his personality, but we know less about his life than Harley or even Soledad! Most, if not all, of Dawn's rivals were bland and hardly showed up. And I'm sure other rivals could gain from it.

(I'll just say it now, Drew needs his own show.)

It'd be neat, but I think it would be better if we got a series focusing on the Gym Leaders. We could bring back old major characters like Misty, and expand more on fan favorites like Flannery and Elesa.

That would be nice, but even with the large cast now (and expected to grow), I wouldn't expect anyone other than Ash, Pikachu, or Team Rocket getting more than just one episode focusing on them. Once this series ends, we can expect special episodes focusing on Serena, Clemont and Bonnie before they disappear forever (with Brock possibly making a cameo).

I have been picturing on that the old cast would be doing right now (especially May and Dawn), but the chances of them returning? Tarzan has it better for Kingdom Hearts (with 0.00000001%) than all old companions do for the anime.

A few spin off Chronicles episodes at most.

We kinda already had that with the Ho-So Specials/Chronicles.

And since they weren't particularly successful, I doubt we'll get anything like that anytime soon...

Shame really. My biggest issues with the Show is how PokeWorld has unlimited story potential, but 95% percent of the time we only see Ash-tachii and the TRio like there's absolutely nothing else going on in the world... :-(

Is there any chance there was a special with May's rivals in it? They should make one. I don't see why having extra character specials wouldn't be popular, everyone liked seeing Misty, and I remember back when that Gold guy (was that his name in the anime?) was popular.

They should make a sitcom where all the rivals are living in the same apartment complex and interact with each other. I'd watch that.

Truthfully, though, I'd rather see a Mystery Dungeon spin-off. Seems like there's more potential for an ongoing story there.

Possible? Anything's possible. Probable? Definitely not. Target audience is a bunch of 8 to 11-year-olds. Would any of them even know who Drew or Harley even were, and more importantly, would they really care? Those guys and their plot points got buried over half a decade ago. Those who didn't follow the anime closely around those times won't even remember who they are.

If anything, the closest we'll ever get will be the Megavolution Specials: few and far-between installments that mostly serve to look really awesome and to advertise the latest games and gimmicks.

If not even major older characters(ex members of main cast)can't get anything being pretty much forgotten with no updates, revisit or doing new things within their stories and character development.

Than chances of older rivals getting something of their own where they could be center of attention is very, very low unfortunately.

Only way i could see them getting individual episodes for themselves is if pokemon chronicles version 2.0 ever see light of day again.

Like Gary, Casey, Ritchie received in first set.

Speaking of which i would like to see some coverage on Paul solo journey, How his rematch against Brandon went. Discover new ways of powering up your pokemon like mega evolution.Possibly causing some questioning and reconsideration from his part about way he handled his pokemon in past. With Ash defeat and training methods influencing his approach toward training or battling in general. Due to failing to synchronize with his pokemon to fulfill requirements for mega upgrade.

Seeing May rivals for example would be great as well. Im especialy interested in Harley and his perfid, feminine with added dash of sadistic nature personality. In how his voyage at Johto went and what hes up to next. Show moments of planning how to sabotage competition and explore more on his past and childhood.

Infact May should get whole arc for herself in form of pokemon side stoiries doing continuation of her adventures as coordinator, how successful she became, catching new pokemon and allowing to see all other rvals like Drew, Solidad etc shining on stage once again.

I wouldn't mind those from previous chronicles getting subseries for themselves as well. Like Misty who we haven't saw forever and how much of reputation she built for herself and Cerulean . See if her relationship with sisters became closer teaching them responsibility in running gym enjoying in her fiery, rebellious, expressive attitude.
Maybe show her going on quest to enter water tournament and reenter Whirl Cup, collect items to mega evolve Gyarados, meet Marina or Trinity again renewing on rivalries(i condsidered them rivals in sense)discover about new ways of training pokemon and strategy from stronger trainers who cant be found at gym. Advancing her dream of becoming water pokemon master with story moving somewhere etc.

Or Gary and in what direction life of Ash original and ar some point most important, fierce rival went. Did he discovered smething revolutionary in his research and collection of information(mega evolution would give him lot of unanswered material to work with, but it wasnt meant to be i guess).
Acknowledging his existence.

Than there are Dawn rivals, Langley, Burgundy and all kind of intricate plots and open questions their departure left behind themselves.Warranting to get more screentime.

Giving plenty of potential for second season of chronicles or side specials dedicated to long gone forgotten characters who aparently dont have place and any future in main show sadly.

Possibility is very low, but given how other franchise are returning back to their roots. Revisiting past, attracting older audience back into their anime snd taking older, popular fan favorites in new fresh directions delivering sequel to their stories.

Maybe pokemon company decide to do something with unlimited potential , unfinished stories , rivalrirs and unanswered questions circulatinmg around so many rivals, main characters and recurring once important faces who got written out as well.

Older fans would be more than interested and new kids would get chance to experience things and characters who once used to define and make pokemon show getting to know pokemon history. Repairing broken bridges and lines in pokemon continuity.

Actually Chronicles(Ho-So specials) got just as high or even higher ratings than Hoenn episodes which aired at that times. Ratings are in here:
Episodes marked with red star represent them.

ポケモン アニメサブタイトル「週刊ポケモン放送局」

Reason why chronicles stopped airing isnt clear and fully known(it has something to do with specials starting to be run in different timeslot on different day) . Accompanied with staff members at higher positions of pokemon company presumably not having motivation to warrant their continuation.

But it definitely wasn't because of "low interest" (interest was actually pretty big and fandom big demand to see new adventures of Misty, May, Brock, Dawn etc. yearning for years for more only further proves this).

It may also have been logistically difficult to get them distributed internationally, particularly with the more aggressive dubbing timeline that was implemented once TPCi took over.

Why do they need timelines? Why do they need to make it harder on themselves?
