Could Janine have worked in the show?

I often think how it would've been cool if, say, Ash got a few traveling companions exclusive to his Johto journey like Tracey was with the Orange Islands. Like Janine was Koga's youngest daughter who went off to prove herself worthy of inheriting the ninja family's legacy.

Hell, Ash could've used her as a rival as they aimed for the Silver Conference. Anybody else feeling me?

Her bug Pokemon would have been toast facing Cyndaquil and Noctowl.
 
I don't know if she could have been part of the main cast, but she could have worked into the show itself as a character of the day pretty easily at least. She could have been shown training in Johto in order to take over her father's Gym or something like that. If they didn't give Koga a sister, we probably could have seen Janine show up instead of Aya for her episode.
 
I think from the get-go the way she was presented in the anime was like "never see you again, I'm going to get stronger" type of person. Therefore, from the start, the producers knew where they were going to go. I would've been surprised if she came back when I watched the league.
 
Yes to making her a rival. No to making her a traveling companion.

I'd imagine that she would have bonded with Misty over the family gym business.
 
No to making her a rival. Satoshi already had two of them and writers written out the female one.
 
Still, I prefer the use of an already established female character, instead of adding another one in detriment of the previous one.
 
I feel as though Aya in her Johto appearance pretty much did what Janine could have done, yeah.

That said though, I would have preferred Janine to be in that episode instead since she's one of my favorite Kanto region Gym Leaders, and even if Aya superseded her then, couldn't Janine have still appeared in AG156 as a nod to her (misnamed) FRLG cameo? That's another missed opportunity there.
