Could Paul stand up to Ash’s original Pokémon (the ones he got before Sinnoh)?

Paul is my favorite as I mentioned before, but could his team beat the likes of Charizard, Swellow, Snorlax, Heracross, Sceptile, etc. He only has Pokémon that he deems worthy and powerful enough to be on his team. Based on his usual choices I would say that his top Pokémon are; Torterra, Weavile, Urasring, Magmortar, Electabuzz, Honchcrow, Gliscor (which will probably be seen again at the league if he still has it, but I think he does), Nidoking/Hariyama/Lairon(all 3 may be seen again at some point in the league). Since he has been around almost as much as Ash these are his top picks. Most of his top Pokémon have been beaten/injured almost to the point of being beaten by Ash’s Sinnoh team (minus Pikachu). This says a lot considering Ash’s team does not have as much experience as those on Paul’s team that has been around regions. I think that if Ash used his brain he could have beaten Paul in just about each battle that they have had so far. I mean if his Johto/Kanto starters were actually in their final forms he would definitely be a trainer to be reckoned with! To me Paul would have his hands full because Sceptile’s speed would make a great asset to counter Torterra’s powerful attacks
(both grass types have their own loner attitudes that would make a great battle/Bayleef is too nice but evolved it would put up a good fight but I don’t think it could win/Bulbasaur well if it would evolve Ash would be in a great position to win. Swellow’s great speed/endurance would give Honchcrow a run for its money, Snorlax vs Urasring would be a sight to see, and I could go one. I think that most of you can see where I am going with this. If Ash actually used his Pokemon’s unique abilities to his advantage things would go a bit smoother for him. For example, while he was teaching Starly how to use Aerial Ace, why didn’t he just bring up Swellow to show it how to do it? Not to mention his other Pokémon may have learned some new techniques from each other, themselves, or the trainer’s Pokémon that are at Oak’s lab. I hope that if Ash does go up against the BF/Elite 4/Sinnoh League he brings back some of his old powerhouses.

Long-story short, it would be a great fight but Ash's previous Pokemon would do great against Paul.

Everyone knows Ash's Kanto and Hoenn teams were very powerful. They are what got Ash where he was in the first place.

Any combination of Bulbasaur/Squirtle/Charizard/Snorlax or Sceptile/Swellow/Corphish/Torkoal/Glalie with Pikachu added would dominate.

Add in a few reserves like Donphan, Heracross, Muk, etc. and he should do well.

Can't say the same for the Johto starters or Noctowl though. They'd get their clocks cleaned if they battled with Paul. Definitely leave them for the minor leagues.

It depends, is this Ash who let's his Pokemon do what they want all the time and let the battle play out despite type advantage not on his side? His Pokemon are strong, but they can't do everything,

It would be a great battle either way, but if Paul is using strategy and thinking calmly while Ash is all caught up in the battle like he was during their first 6 on 6, it'd be closer because of Charizard, but he'd probably still lose. If it's calm Ash, then maybe he'd win.

If Ash used his original Pokemon, the battle would be a really close one (Paul hasn't seen those Pokemon before, and will probably try his hardest to win, regardless).

maybe not, i would like to say no.
but since Ash always switches pokemon, theres a possibility his older ones have not been training too much, and thus are not considerably stronger than his ones now.

If Ash uses his haphazard strategy all the way through, then yes, Paul could beat Ash's best Pokemon. But if Ash gets his act together, and really trains, say, Pikachu, Charizard, Snorlax, Sceptile, Heracross, and Staraptor, and thinks as deeply as Paul does about his strategy, Ash will win. His top Pokemon are just more powerful.

it would still be an even match, lets not forget that Paul has also traveled to all the regions ash has, and has participated in those leagues as well. but yes i no what u mean.

When I think original, I think Pikachu, Charizard, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Butterfree and Pidgeot, but that won't happen.

Obvious answer here. Yes. Ksnto/Hoenn team are good.

Except whenever he brings them back, they are even better than they were before.

Ash's old team is more than capable of beating Paul.

Realistically speaking, bar monsters like Charizard and Sceptile, the match could go either way. And we don't know whether Paul doesn't have a pseudo-legendary or something similar stashed away somewhere. If he pulls out a Tyranitar or a Salamance in the League, I won't be surprised in the least.

But due to the power of Plot, Ash will get the last win even if Paul pulls out the whole Beast Trio.

Charizard and Sceptile, yes. Bulbasaur and Squirtle, no not a chance.

Paul would show up a good show and beat some of those because of Ash's hastiness, but will eventually get his butt spanked with a combo of Leaf Blade and Seismic Toss.

Look at all the Pokemon Ash used in Battle Frontier.

Those were his BEST pokemon. I guess people have only been watching DP recently and have forgotten how awesome Ash's Kanto and Hoenn lineup's were.

The only pokemon that wouldn't stand a chance is the trio of Johto staters and Noctowl. Everything else would do great.

Yeah, I saw it. I actually re-watched those Frontier battles. And they did alright. Not unbeatable, but alright. I bet Paul's Pokemon are on that same level, since they've gone through 4 regions as well (I forget if Paul did the Battle Frontier or not)

And again, if this isn't idiot hot-head heat of the battle Ash, it'd be close and pretty good.

Paul would probably lose 5 to 0 or something crazy like that.

Hmm. It really could go either way. Paul has gona through the same regions as Ash so he's probably gonna pull out crazy strong Pokemon. $_$

The Kanto starters would kick Pauls butt so bad he'd be lying on the ground in the fetal position crying like a baby!

Just kidding, but yeah if Ash was able to assemble his all star team, he'd probly beat Pauls team.

Charizard and Sceptile would definitely be awesome pokemon to use against Paul. Donphan has a good advantage against Electabuzz. Swellow has proven it's a strong pokemon as well. Glalie hasn't "lost" a battle yet and Snorlax is an obvious powerhouse. There's more pokemon out there that can also do very well against Paul like Tauros or Heracross too. Ash has a lot of strong pokemon he could use in a battle against Paul that would win.

Guys, guys.Calm and think about this for a second.Analise the situation.Paul is the guy that will capture EVERYTHING that moves as long at is remotely decent.Do you really believe that this kind of trainer would only have 4 or 5 reserves? Also add to the fact that he has traveled the same number of regions as Ash.

Paul has to have powerhouses at the same level as those of Ash´s.If not higher. The kanto starters aren't legionaries, ubers or hyped. The Hoenn team lost against human but experienced trainers.
