What dou you think?

Could they try in future games retype some old pokemon like in the past?

Absol or mega Absol dark/fairy would be cool.

Mega Bannete ghost/???normal or psychic ???

Or do you think that only new forms and megas will get secondary typings added?

I would add also those Alolan forms and megas to the list, they are actually not new pokemon lines.
Hope we get some in future.

Leave it to new forms, new Pokemon, Megas, and Alola forms~ It would incredibly jarring to suddenly change existing Pokemons' types, especially since they chose not to when they did the Fairy overhaul~
Agreed on the Fairy point. Dark/Fairy Mega Absol would be seriously sweet but they've had three opportunities to do it so far (XY, ORAS, SM). GF seem pretty clear in their intentions.

Exactly, I'm not opposed to type changes in general if they make sense, but they've had plenty of opportunities to do so to existing Pokemon and they seem to only want to go as far as changing stats and Abilities, so I can't really see them doing it now.

when I first saw Mega Houndoom I though about a posibbe fire/ghost and a strategy against fighting type oponents.
But you know how it turned out.
(it learns 3 ghost type moves)

Theoretically they changed in generation 6 many pokemon to fairies, theoretically they can state that pokemon reserchers didnt realize first that the mega forms got additional typing through mega evolution.
Thats posible to do.

At this point, I highly doubt it. Gamefreak have only retyped Pokémon when a new type have been added to the game, such as Steel and Fairy. If Gamefreak never felt the need to retype other Pokémon during those times, It isn't very likely that they are going to bother now, especially now that regional variant Pokémon exists.

New Pokémon or not, they still count. We count Rotom's forms as being unique. So why not Alolan Forms and Megas?

I really don't see the purposing of retyping anymore Pokemon. They already made the Pokemon they types they wanted them to be from the start. Changing them now, especially the still relatively recent Megas, would be weird.

That reasoning hurts them more than helps them, IMO. So the researchers literally went back and re-typed all the Fairy-type Pokemon but didn't think to do so with anything else like Megas? That just seems odd to me.

I also don't think learning 3 Ghost-type moves warrants a type change, but that's just me.

Aside from Steel and Fairy types being added, the only retypings we got were Rotom's forms in Gen 5. They were all switched from Electric/Ghost to what their current typings are.

That said, I doubt they'll change anything else from Gen 6, if they were going to, then they had the chance to in SM, but they decided to keep them the same. I also doubt anything from Gen 7 will change its type outside of new forms.

Most likely the only opportunity for new typings is going to be with new Alola forms. I don't think they're just going to retype random Pokemon unless there's a new type altogether being introduced (such as with Dark and Steel in 2nd gen and Fairy in 6th gen), I can only think of one other instance where that happened in the series and that was with the Rotom forms in 5th gen. It's extremely rare that they just retype a Pokemon out of the blue, it's usually a result of some new type or new form gimmick.

to have more representative uniq pokemon with those typings.
Imagine if they would be the oposite oriented or with better speed or with better abilities.

the mega Ampharos electric/dragon , how many moves did it knew?

Unless they get new forms or they introduce a new type altogether, I doubt there will be any retypings. There's just no reason to. I wish they did, Alola forms gave new breath of life to some forgotten mons and made them exciting again. Too bad there were so few of them and restricted only to Kanto pokemon.

I doubt Ampharos's tiny pool of Dragon moves had any bearing on the Mega's typing. Rather...

Denryu can be taken to mean 電流 denryū (electric current) or 電竜 den ryū (electric dragon), and it may incorporate 電球 denkyū (light bulb), referring to its tail.
Besides, if we're going to say the number of moves for each type is important then that only gives more reason against Ghost/Fire Mega Houndoom; the species knows more Dark type moves than it does Ghost.

Typing is pretty much always tied to the concept of the Pokemon. The only type changes we've ever had are because of new types being introduced, save for the exception of Rotom's forms as Tuoko pointed out. (and given that Rotom still learned moves of those types when it possessed an appliance, it seems pretty clear that it was intended to have a connection to those types) Retyping an existing Pokemon would blur the lines between types and make things more frustrating on returning players.

Also, I really don't understand why you started the thread off with talking about unused type combinations. Just because a type combination hasn't been used yet doesn't mean we have to shoehorn an existing Pokemon into it. There can always be new Pokemon.
