Could there actually be another battle of sorts after the Darkrai trainer?

The reason I say this is because, there's not enough battles now for all of Ash's Pokemon in the opening to get a fight.

- We know Ash uses the same Sinnoh team (including Gliscor), against Paul.

- Bayleef and Totodile will likely finally get their debut against the Darkrai trainer, and we have an image of Heracross used again. Its also possible Quilava might get used a second time.

Aside from that, these Pokemon still have no confirmed fight:

- Muk
- Corphish
- Torkoal
- Glalie

I don't see why the writers would bring those four back just to get still-screen images. They did a quick 5 second fight with Snorlax because Ash said he never planned to use Snorlax in this league, but mixed it up with Heracross (that's what that Oak scene was about).

And those are random. They could have ignored them entirely like they're doing to Tauros, Kingler and Sceptile/Swellow...yet they're there. What could they be for?

Cynthia. No seriously, there's no other reason for her to be watching and no one else.

Those 4 + Sceptile/Swellow would make my day.

I'll be content with the Kanto starters being absent (gasp), as long as my precious Hoenn team gets back together.

Torkoal and Glalie also desperately need more screentime.

I bet it isn't a coincidence that the Pokémon you listed are from Kanto and Hoenn just like Kabigon.

DP has always been about Sinnoh and ( after the remakes were announced) Johto and those Pokémon will probably get the big fights in the league.

So I really think Muk,Corphish,Torkoal and Glalie will only get brief snapshot battles and really short battles like Kabigon did.

There isn't enough time for another battle after the LT anyway. I want a proper send-off for Takeshi and Hikari!

Then why bring them back at all?

You miss the point. They could have easily skipped them entirely and ignored them like Tauros/Kingler and the others. The "still-screens" could have been of Ash's Sinnoh Pokemon.

They specifically chose the underused Muk, Torkoal/Glalie likely to get more wins, and Corphish because the writers love it (see the ep where Quilava evolved).

Why would they hype these Pokemon up to give them still-screens, essentially pissing off fans who wanted to see them fight? They could have not been shown at all.

Cameos? Short appearances are better than nothing. At least in the eyes of the writers.

If that were the case, you'd expect to see Tauros/Kingler and Sceptile/Swellow get the same.

Muk, Torkoal and Glalie were underused Pokemon. You cannot deny they definitely need the Johto team treatment.

Maybe the writers figured that Cortoise just (and by "just," I mean like almost half a decade ago) had a big battle against Jindai's Registeel at the end of the Battle Frontier and therefore doesn't need the screentime as much as some of the others?

I agree about all of this, but maybe Satoshi has too many Pokémon already to showcase all of them during a (rushed) league. At least to the writers.

Sceptile, Swellow, Tauros and Kingler probably didn't fit into the league due to the number of matches available.

Maybe we'll get Sceptile, Swellow, Tauros and Kingler battles in the next league and only a few DP Pokémon will get a cameo to compensate?

I thought they specifically chose Torkoal and Glalie because they were the two most underused Pokemon in AG. Torkoal's fight with Registeel was still 4 years ago.

And the writers absolutely love Corphish. Why else did that ep with the Johto starters have Corphish there right alongside them?

Ash vs Leaf Amanda.

..
Whoever he may battle it seems a bit..Of an odd team. They may just be cameos.

Glalie and Torkoal werent underused. They were used during the Battle Frontier arc. Muk, on the other hand has never been used.

I think that it would be interesting if Ash used Bayleef, Totodile, Torkoal, Muk, Corphish and Glalie in another battle. I think that if we had battled Cynthia, he would bring back Charizard to Seismic Toss her ass :D

Also, where is this evidence that Ash uses Gliscor? I am not doubting it, I'd just like to see it

If the team given given for the Ash vs. Paul battle is true, then there will be a skipped battle where at least one of the remaining 6 pokes will be shown. Considering what is left, I cannot choose which one should be left out of the Darkrai trainer battle. Muk hasn't had a battle presence since Gary, and the only battle it's won was against that Bellsprout. The Johto crew wouldn't be shafted since that is what they should be focused on right now. That leaves one of the Hoenn crew. The one with the least presence is Glalie, and following it is Torkoal. Corphish is the one that least needs to be there. They may not be thinking like that, though. They're already going to have a battle where Ash is using repetitive types, the Conway battle, where he is using two Ground types. For him to use two Water types would probably not be far off considering this, but if you really want to, the only way to argue in favor of non-repetitive types is if you believe Gible is not being played as a Ground type, but as it's main type, Dragon. Besides Corphish, though, I would vote Muk, as like Snorlax, it was part of a very small group that doesn't seem to belong anywhere else. That would leave both what remains of the Johto crew and the Hoenn crew for the Darkrai trainer.

For the Cynthia battle, Im expecting Ash to use his Sinnoh 6 again. As for Gliscor, please view this page
