Could this generation last as long as the original three sagas combined?

If you include Kanto, Orange and Johto together, it came out to 276 episodes. I don't like including Johto with the first two sagas, simply because Johto was technically the second generation of the franchise, even if it wasn't billed as a new series like the later ones were. I also only like to think of Kanto and Orange as the "classic era" of Pokemon, simply because Johto's episodes were neither classic nor was Ash's Johto pokemon team popular or nostalgic like his Kanto team.

Sinnoh will probably end close to 200 episodes, yet with no 5th gen in sight, whatever filler arc that comes after could very well last 70 or so episodes.

If that's the case, the DP generation alone could go on for the same span that Kanto, Orange and Johto did. It sounds absolutely crazy for a single generation to go on the same span as two generations and a filler arc, but that's what could very well happen.

Even if this gen simply went up to about 250 episodes, that's still pretty damn close.

Yeah, but I'll bet they do a Battle Frontier next, so it's all good.

We are nowhere near close enough to make this kind of statement yet. We do already know that Sinnoh is lasting longer than Johto alone did, making it the new longest running region. It may be possible for DP to outlast the whole of AG, as ending Sinnoh and having a filler arc will definitely make it longer than that. To even imagine DP outlasting the original Pocket Monsters, though, I think is a gross exaggeration at this point. Quite unlikely.

If they add more episodes it'll probably be about the battle frontier or the Elite 4. (Lucian was hinting towards it during some episode or another I suppose.)

We're still close enough. The newest announced DP title is DP159, and Ash still hasn't gotten his 8th badge. That means in only 40 episodes they have to cover the last badge, last contest, the Grand Festival and Sinnoh league, plus whatever fillers they throw inbetween.

After that there's either the Frontier Brains and/or Elite 4, plus likely another contest arc for Dawn, which would easily take up about 70 episodes.

Even without knowing for sure what's going to happen, its pretty easy to see why one would think this gen could get at least 250 episodes, if not more.

Yeah but it could if they really wanted to. to get that far you need to have the anime go on till 2011....and 2011 isn't really seen as the release date for the 5th gen, I mean hell we've gone this far without seeing it and we sure as hell will go 3 years until release so with the filler arc its very likely.

I guess DP really will be the longest series ever... but I don't see it as anything important as some others see it
As long as I get my Poké anime, I really don't care too much if they're in Sinnoh, Johto, next gen region, etc... Pokémon is Pokémon and DP is Pokémon at its best - I barely have anything to complain about, and the few things I do complain about - I get over quickly... so I really couldn't careless what they'll do as long as I continue to enjoy it as much as I'm currently doing (can't wait for tomorrow!)

Its just really surprising one generation can go on for so long. Back in 2006 when DP started, I honestly thought it would go on for about the same span AG did, about 4 years and 200 eps before the next gen began.

Boy, little did we know at the time that Sinnoh alone would go on for about 200 episodes *without* a BF saga. Adding that afterward would be another 60-70 eps.

I think it's pretty obvious that the wait between every gen is going to get longer and longer with the time, so you better get used to it

Of course it is. Now that things are getting to be more set in stone, like every Nintendo franchise does once getting its first 3-4 rounds going, the gaps are just going to be long. I'm sure though this is a good thing, cause with long gaps it can be much more story developed(the anime that is) and it doesn't have to focus on getting things done fast.

This will also mean Ash's Sinnoh team will be his longest lasting team of the series. Dawn is also bound to be in more than 200 eps before her inevitable departure.

Hm, that's right. Even if Ash Oaks 2 or 3 of them, most of them will be on here for over 200 episodes.

Its kind of ironic if it does, when DP started it was all about the 10th Aniversary stuff and reflecting on the first series (which was Johto, Kanto, and OI combined), and now it might come close to surpassing it. I think the number was 276 episodes, so Sinnoh would come close to it.

Which is also why this has been the longest gap Ash has ever went without using any of his older Pokemon. I really hope they give them all screentime eventually.

The DP series beating the original series? Hey, who knows. 159/276, we're well on the way.

I do think we're quite close to Sunyshore, though, so no need to worry there. We're going to come close if they retain the series name for Johto/BF2, though... either just under or just over the amount.

QFT

This will also mean Ash's Sinnoh team will be his longest lasting team of the series.

Which is the reason I expect a big change to the team for the next saga (and as I already said, I totally expect Toto to "replace" Buizel... and actually, it makes sense: Ash wanted Gible like Kazu and Kazu's other Poké was Toto, so he might want to get the other one back on team too after seeing Kazu's evolve... and hopefully it'll evolve too, possibly even fully evolve)

Dawn is also bound to be in more than 200 eps before her inevitable departure.

Nothing is "inevitable", she might stay and Brock might leave
Until proved otherwise, everything can happen

I can see the closing of Sinnoh taking at most half a year, more or less. The other half consisting of filler of some form if something does not happen soon. Then, if it is a filler arc, they could spend most of the year after that on it, and then conditions would be more favorable for a new game release. It might happen sooner than that, but the pattern has been 2 years between main series releases since Crystal. We got HG/SS in one year after Platinum, though, so who knows.

I don't know about any of you but I'm bored with seeing all of the same things in Sinnoh, Team Galactic, J, contests and trainings. Thats all they do. At least in the older episodes they used to have some kind of rare Pokemon that would come across or some trainer that would help them in some way. Diamond and Pearl are just tired and I won't miss them.

Or the possibility the 5th generation series could become something like "Pokemon: The Next Generation" (a new group, led by the children of Ash and the series jump ahead 20-30 years).

You are describing Johto fillers, which means you prefer them over Galactic/J/Contests/Gym episodes. I think you're pretty alone with that opinion, my friend.

Galactic/Hunter J is over now anyway, and they were the best handled main villains of the series.

But I understand how people can get bored with the same Pokemon for so long, or the same cast. No group has stayed the same for more than 200 episodes.
