Countdown to FUNimation's One Piece dub

So I don't really watch dubs, and I'm not in the U.S. anymore...but for the rest of you, the final 4Kids episodes of One Piece will be airing soon and will make way for the FUNimation-dubbed episodes.

The current guesstimate of when the new season will start is September 29th, but that hasn't been confirmed or anything.

Judging from FUNimation's various comments about the new dub:

-The dub will have a TV-PG rating (as opposed to the TV-Y7 rating it had under 4Kids) and will be as uncut as CN will allow
-All of the original music will be kept
-The dub script will be accurate and devoid of horrible 4Kids-style jokes
-At this time, there are no plans to skip any episodes
-Bilingual DVD's will be released staring early next year

-Some of the names from the old dub (Zolo, Chaser) will be kept to have some continuity with the older dub.
-Sanji will still have a lollipop, but other characters may be able to smoke (or at least have unlit cigaretts/cigars)
-IIRC, Enel will now be called Eneru.


So....speculations? News? Any non-One Piece fans planning on checking this out?
 
I personally just have one thing to say about new OP eps:

But otherwords, new episodes are a GO in my book. *two thumbs up* And I can't wait for them. :3
 
Oh wow! That is NICE! So, are they going to redub the eps that 4kids already did? That will lead the way for the series to be released as uncut dvds hopefully as well. Funi is good at doing that for fans. :D
 
I'm still slightly disappointed about the names, but at least there are bilingual DVDs (it'd be funny if they meant english and spanish though, lol). I just hope not everything is pointed out to be alcoholic. Anything could be consumed from a barrel, and juice really does come in bottles, and kids probably won't think of alcohol unless someone says it.

Does anyone know when Episode of Alibasta is coming out? Viz in SJ was already talking about it so I assume it'll be the first movie here.
 
Might try watching it to see if it does anything for me. I've seen several of the 4Kids episodes and one subtitled Japanese one but don't particularly see why so many people swear by this show. But I'll probably watch the new dub a few times and see if it appeals to me.
 
I have been very very excited about this dub. From the details that have been revealed so far it looks like it will be execellent.

I can take the FCC changes, I hope that as the dub airs CN will get lighter on the stuff to about the level they are with the Naruto dub.
 
Well, Sanji with a lollipop is less ironic, but more logical as smoking messes with your taste buds. Plus, Sanji being a cool character (well... maybe in the eyes of kids) so it could influence them to smoke.

As long as smoker doesn't have lock-jaw anymore...

FUNi can't release the episodes 4Kids did on DVD (001-143) until Viz's video rights expire in 2009.

So, in the meantime, FUNi is going to just pick up where 4Kids left off with Episode 145.


One thing I forgot to add to my list: FUNimation will not have their actors attempt to sound like the 4Kids actors. Meaning Sanji, Usopp, and Robin might actually be bearable now.
 
they also said none of the main characters would have accents (technically, everyone speaks with an accent, but I think they meant in the sense of severely deviating from the norm). That alone should indicate a major change for Robin (I've heard several people actually would've enjoyed her 4kids voice if not for the accent).
 
Hmmm... well, I still wonder what luffy will sound like because he probably has the most difficult voice to do.. I remember not really being satisfied with the Japanese one when it first came out either..
 
I noticed in Viz they mentioned Sonny Straight and Chris Sabat playing Zolo and Usopp in One Piece: Episode of Alabaster.

Makes me wonder if a Movie 8 (retelling of the Alabaster Arc) dub is coming.

I think that's the first movie they're planning on dubbing.

They'll then play catch-up later...
 
So it's been confirmed that the new dub's starting on September 29th. We also have the first episode title:

"Caught Log! King of Salvagers! Masira!"
 
Sounds like an actual Japanese title, which is good news for the fans of the original Japanese version of One Piece...which means I'm even more excited to check this out!

For those of you who don't know, I've spent the last "ever-since-4Kids-One-Piece" dissing the show, but I wanna see this new dub.

EDIT: Wait, I posted it up there. Whatever...
 
Yeah, FUNi said they weren't going to do pun titles, so that's good news to those of us who cringed at "Here We Go A Ghin" and "The Crack of Don."

I know that most anime fans exaggerate when they say the Japanese version is totally different from the English version, but in the case of One Piece, that's actually very true. If the FUNi dub is everything it's promised to be, you'll really feel like you're watching a completely different show than what 4Kids has made us suffer through for the past three years.

Yup, Justin Cook confirmed it at Anime Expo, a dub of Movie 8 is indeed in the works.
 
One Piece is awesome THERE WILL BE 3 NEW EPISODES AIRED ON TOONAMI between the Sept. 29th-Oct. 13th!
