Events are moving fast and traditional cable news seems to be slow to catch up ( I am looking at you CNN as you air a Manson Documentary ). So far Maliki is remaining firm, and what is left of his loyal forces are roaming around Baghdad. The U.S. is now against Maliki and for his would be successor, but that may mean little. CNN International has confirmed that there are tanks in the Green Zone right now, which could be Maliki using a show of force against the Government.
I have seen unconfirmed reports that the Parliament is being held hostage in the al-Rasheed hotel with Maliki's forces surrounding it.
Things are happening fast, not everything is confirmed, but I wanted to open a topic as this could be the beginnings of a civil war in Iraq.
Edit: "You've got Nuri al-Maliki refusing to step down. Now he's mobilized not just security troops loyal to him, but now he's mobilized army units to put tanks in the streets. Some of the bridges have been closed," Francona said. "It looks like he's trying to lock down the city in some sort of confrontation with the President, so this does not portend well."
