I realize that everyone will have a different opinion on this, but how do you define CrackShipping? How do you differ it from a NeverMetShip?

Personally I don't consider it crackshipping as long as they have *something* in canon for people to play off (even if that 'something' was not intended to be played with by the producer/writer). Usually this means they've actually met, but it could be just two characters who parallel or are sort of 'counterparts' to each other, like, say, Lance x Shirona. Or if it doesn't have basis in canon but has become really popular among the fandom, I think it is possible for a crackship to raise to nevermetship.

Then there's different levels of crack. Brad x Violet = mild crack. Max x Mimilol x twig monster!Celebi = heavy crack.

I also think crack implies that the author/artist just kind of threw the two together randomly without thinking about anything other than "these guys are both hot" or sometimes not even that. So if someone sees two characters having complimentary personalities, then that might just be mild crack or a nevermetship.

Thoughts?

I voted for 'no basis in canon', but really I think it's somewhere between that and 'defies confirmed orientations/characterisations'. Perhaps it's unfair, but often I end up thinking of a ship as a crackship owing to the behaviour of the fans. There are some ships that aren't all that implausible - as in, the characters might have a close relationship, even if it's not a romantic one - but its supporters pull out such ludicrous hints for the pairing that I come to define the entire ship by their crazy.

True Love can overcome the slight problem of never meeting each other.

Yami Yugi x Ash 4EVER GIRLFRIENDZ!!!!!!!!!

I only like crack shipping though. It's fun to do.

Nevermets are just when the characters are never shown meeting and you can't assume that they have off camera.

Crackships are bizarre, like the sort you would find at random from the Shippers Cup of Doom.

A ship can be both, or it can be one or the other.

An awful lot of 'ships in this fandom are cracktastical. Hell, a lot of the ships I like are cracktastical.

For me, at least with Pokemon, I define "nevermet" ships as ships that we've never seen the characters meet, but it's possible that they have, or will at some point (e.g. the gym leaders, the members of Team Rocket).

I define crack pairings as people that are not likely to ever meet (such as two characters that can't really leave their respective towns).

I don't equate nevermet ships with crack ships...
"defies confirmed orientations/characterisations" fer me. Crack ships are fun anyway~!

Same as QuietDragon, I went with the 'defies confirmed orientations/characterizations' for me to make a crack!ship.

Like Lansumishipping *twitches*
