Of all ages, why is 10 the chosen age to leave home? wouldn't it be safer to make it 16,18 or 21? Surely there are rapists and pedo's about in the pokemon world. Yet parents seem very content with there children traveling internationally. I know it's a huge difference but i didn't start flying and traveling on my own until at least 16 possibly 17. Another question is how the trainers feel so safe and carefree just being on there own in the world at such a young age? Wouldn't things like food and shelter cause a great deal of stress? yes there are Pokemon Center's but not everywhere as seen occasionally in the anime when Ash & Co. are in a town with no Pokemon nearby. Plus from my viewpoint i'd be very intimidated traveling such a far distance on my own,let alone at 10 years old.

Thanks In advance guys! Cheers!

While it does seem that those would be valid concerns, I get the feeling that many of those issues are alleviated by the simple fact that the young trainers are supported by their Pokémon.

I mean, -most- caught Pokémon are fantastically loyal. In any situation where the trainer could come under hard, they usually have a few powerful Pokémon to come to their aid.

It's like sending your kid out alone on an adventure, or sending them out with 6 heavily armed bodyguards. It makes a difference, at least in my eyes.

You are attacked by Rapist!
Go, Milotic!
Milotic used Ice Beam!
It's Super Effective!
Rapist fainted!
You got P1000 for winning.

Yes, I'm sure rapists are going to attack a little girl who might just be holding GOD on her belt. And in pokemon, apparently little girls can do that.

If that's the case, then surely the criminals would not only also have pokémon, but could likely have far stronger ones as well. It's like real life in a sense.

No, most likely the developers decided to omit these facts, considering that this IS a kiddie game...

In an RPG targeted towards older audiences, then I'm sure they'd have considered this.

But as the games have proven, criminals apparently don't take the time to train.

When mob bosses, ecoterrorist masterminds, and omnicidal wannabe gods run like scared rabbits when you knock out their pokemon, I get the feeling things work just a scoch differently there.

Pokemon is a world where, for some reason, young children seem to be unbelieveably awesome at raising Pokemon. Why would someone be worried ofr their child when they are stronger than any adult?

I believe that 10 is the youngest allowed age to become a trainer, but parents have the right to make their kids wait till they're older..like 13 or 15 years old.

And also, trainers make friends with pokemon, the pokemon will defend the trainer if the trainer takes care of them, right?

I'm sure crime like that does happen, but it's probably rare; just because it's a common thing in our society doesn't mean it has to be everywhere. Ten does seem kind of young (if there were pokemon in real life I feel like it would be sixteen) but I guess it's assumed that if children are responsible enough to handle pokemon, they can learn to take care of themselves and be independent.

I think if you lose a Pokémon battle you're at your opponent's mercy regardless of your age, so they only let children travel when they believe they're old enough to train Pokémon. Apparently they chose ten as that age.

Then again that could also turn out like this:
Rapist sent out Raichu
Raichu used thunderbolt
Milotic fainted.
You are screwed...

I guess the main reason why there are 10-year olds in the game is that the games were directed at kids at around 10, and they felt they would be able to identify more with a player character of their age, rather than an adult.

Most trainers, from what I've noticed, never really have more than three-four pokemon. Most players have six...

Yeah, that might be too analytical, but still, you lose one, you've got back-up. They lose one... well, they might have back-up, but doubtful.

This isn't much about crime in the pokemon world, its more about rape in the pokemon world.
I'd think it'd be hilarious to catch a pedochu.

If gambling is not allowed at 10, then how come Red can just up sticks and go hit the slots at Celadon City, whilst his Ivysaur and co. wilt away, with no choice but to watch whilst a yound man, nay, child becomes a serial alcoholic...

So yeah, maybe that isn't right, but hey! The game should improve realism, to the point we can be character with hairs on their chests, so, just for once, we can be the ones doing the beatings on the kids. Although that would make the whole stereotypical early bit with all the Schoolkids and Bugcatchers a little wierd... eould you really walk up to someone like that with only a Caterpie for protection?

Ahem.
I rest my case... of non-descript nature. Peace!

How does a gambler become an alcoholic?

Think of it for a while... do you think Satoshi Tajiri will put rapist or other bad guys there[ gangs not included] if he puts one, its not pokemon anymore...

There's also the fact that the would-be rapist can just..."take hold" of the trainer, if you will, before they can get their Pokemon out, since most of the time, the Pokemon are most likely in the Pokeballs. Better hope there is a good Samaritan nearby, human or Pokemon, that can help in that situation. o3o

Erm what if the rapist/kidnapper is holding a firearm? There was an episode (Kanto Arc) where Pikachu was frightened by a burgler armed with a semi-auto pistol and he/it refused to act.

Of course, comparing a Charizard to a Glock 18 is like comparing a rocket launcher to a pistol.

HGSS has solved this problem.
