What it was on the tin. I say it is the best not Pokemon game ever. I got the DSmake. (born to late 4 original)

Chrono Trigger was the epicist of SNES games, next to SMW. I own that one and the remake. (not the damned PSX port!!)

Damn that game brings some memories. Chrono Trigger is my second favorite SNES game (Link to the Past is just a bit better) and that's a lot, considering SNES is my favorite console.

I should get a hold of the DS remake.

The DS remake is good. They add some new zones and an optional boss that ties the storyline more with Chrono Cross

Plus they added some cool anime-style cut scenes. Chrono Trigger is defiantly a great game. I had the original SNES version and I currently own the DS-remake. It's easily my favorite non-Nintendo SNES game ever.

The script and items are rewritten too

I think that was done for clarification. More than anything else.

I love this game. I'm working my way through the Lost Sanctum as I write this. I never managed to get into it when I tried playing a version of the original, but the DS is my favorite console in the history of everything ever, and so I picked it up. And got addicted. It has all the time-travel elements and deep, fascinating story that made Ocarina of Time fun, only multiplied several times over, along with a central cast of interesting characters.

Also, Marle hugging the newly-resurrected Crono is the cutest sprite I have ever seen in a video game. I feel all warm and fuzzy when I look at that.

I've been considering getting a PSX, just so I can play Chrono Cross (and SOTN). I know it's not the same in many ways, but I'd still like to see a continuation of the storyline. And until Square gets on the ball and makes a third game, that's the only sequel Chrono Trigger's got.

As it's own game Chrono Cross wasn't bad. But as a CT sequel, it really did mangle things a lot from the first game, by the end of CC, I felt everything done in CT was for naught, which I really didn't like.

However, Chrono Cross has one of the best soundtracks of all of time, there's no arguing that. I even purchased that one (yes, a legit version) because it was so good.

That does seem to happen a lot, doesn't it? Like in Zelda, with teh supposedly split timeline. To quote Mr. Incredible, "I just saved this world! Can't it stay saved?"

One thing I have to say I really didn't like was the cutscenes. Does Crono really have to look so short and fat? I got a much taller and leaner appearance for him (and all the characters, except Robo) from the sprite. It doesn't seem to fit. And, while Crono/Marle is my new OPT (which is weird; I don't normally go for insanely obvious ones), I like to leave their fate open-ended. Instead, we see a cinematic showing them getting married. Sigh...

Still, when I think about how the game would have been originally presented, I can't help but think "awesome." I think I'll turn the movies off for my next play-through.

It does. But in Zelda, it isn't spit back in your face to the lines of "HAHA! They're dead! The heroes you know and love all died horrible flaming deaths at the hands of a furry!"

One big change to the script is that
Frog no longer speaks with his Olde English accent.

Loved it on SNES as a child, finally got it for PlayStation a few years ago, hated the load times, and getting the DS remake soon.

Frog's accent in the old translation was really awkward and out-of-place, though. The argument for the accent is that he's from the Middle Ages, but if that's the case...then why doesn't anyone else from that time period speak with that accent as well?

Frog being the only person IN ALL OF TIME to speak with that accent just reeks of lazy writing.

No. It was done because simply copying and pasting the old translation would not have been possible.

As for the game, in general...Chrono Trigger ranks up there as one of my favorite games of all time. The story moves along at a great pace and offers enough twists and turns to keep it from getting boring, and the likable cast of characters really succeed in making you care for them. The graphics hold up surprisingly well and I still listen to the game's soundtrack every now and then (it makes great study music).

Anyone who hasn't gotten this game yet has really done him or herself a disservice.
