Cryptoscammers hack Pokémon's official X account to post fake memecoin announcement

The official @Pokemon account on X has been the victim of a hack by cryptoscammers, with a fake announcement of a $POKEMON memecoin being posted to their account a little over half an hour ago. It remained up and available for a period of over 20 minutes before being deleted. While The Pokémon Company International has now regained control over their account, fans should still use caution over the next few days in case these hackers should make a similar attack against Pokémon-associated accounts across various social platforms.

UPDATE: The statement regarding the hack that was posted on the @Pokemon account has now been deleted for an unknown reason, and it is possible that the hackers still have access to the account. We have included a screenshot of the statement below.

 

Wow, hope they changed the password to the account.

 

Considering you'd imagine they have some sort of 2FA set up for the account, you do wonder how they managed to get in. A team member with delegate account access whose account wasn't locked down sufficiently, perhaps?

 

Whatever the case, those scammers suck, and glad that the account is back in control

As in, have there been any more attempts against us? Possibly. No evidence of anyone actually being successful though. Nor has Pokémon given any more acknowledgement of the hack they suffered. No further cryptoscam posts have been made there either.
