Curiosity: How are glitches discovered, and by who?

I was just wondering if anyone has any idea how the infamous Missingo glitch and similar ones are discovered. They just seem to be slightly too random to have been discovered by someone pissing about.

Some are stumbled upon by accident, but you are correct with your assumption that there are people even communities out there dedicated to finding glitches in the games.

I've kinda wondered myself. Like, if there's someone out there who just sits around, fiddling with the controllers, wondering if they spin around three times or open the door and close it five times, you can get to the end automatically XD

Accidents, curiosity, occasionally people sift through game code, looking for discrepancies. Similar to being an operator in the Matrix.

Mmmm, I heard about the wall surfing glitch in the Pokemon League on D/P and thought, 'Surely someone didn't do that by accident!'
