Hi!

I know many Serebii members are Bulbagarden members, so I thought I'd ask this question here.

Anyone know what is going on with the forum server there? It's been down for a day and it's never been down this long.

Is it a crash, repair, or a switch over to a new one, or something?

Serebii is too poor (apparently) to pay for a good, stable, reliable server of his own, and far too picky and stubborn to ally himself with someone who can.

It's been off and on for several days now, and problematic for much longer.

Serebii, too poor to pay for good hosting? With what he's claimed to recieve in advertising revenues in the past (a value which, according to PPNSteve, probably isn't outside the realms of possibility, given the ad revenue on PPN, and how many visitors Serebii gets), he should easily be able to afford good hosting.

Of course, he could be switching to new servers to handle the expected influx of people with D/P's English release, but I haven't heard anything about that.

They need to do some thing it's bin happen every day since I sign up some one getting greedy >>......

The forums are pretty heavily populated, server crashes due to overload (NOOZ HAXORZ!) always made logical sense.

Anyway...it always seems to go down at sucky times too. Like, after I just wrote a huge post and are about to send it...

FUnny, NW he's claiming he makes little to no money because he's paying for the server costs with the ad money. XD

Numerous SPPF members have pointed out the English D/P problem, and he just keeps repeating what is said above. We can all safely assume that Serebii.net won't exist from April 19th to May 19th. X_x

Bulbapedia will always be here....

There got to be some thing they can do if they know they have a popular forum then shelling out the money is a no brainier or if your not per paired to then don't take on the huge responsibly in first place.

Knowing how much the Bulbagarden servers cost, and with those estimates of what Serebii earns....he should easily be able to handle the traffic he gets. Hell, he runs 2 separate servers, one for the forums, one for the site.

Bulbagarden, on the other hand, is all one server. Our server is fairly new, and we have it to ourselves (along with a few affiliates, but it's not like shared hosting or something) so we're hoping it'll handle the load, but it'll be a close call, especially if we get a huge stack of people visiting us because Serebii went down.

Aaaand after reading this, I think I'm gonna go donate some money to the garden.

I suppose. To me, unannounced problems with his server would indicate several possibilities, and none are poor hosting. Either he's got himself hacked again, or he's in the process of moving servers to upgrade for whatever reason (in this case, D/P release).

And when I accidently quadruple post, keep trying to delete it but it wont budge.
The forums are down again. For the past half hour for me.
I better not get any infractions for it! :(

How long does it take to move servers? Because it seems that these problems have been going on for far too long for that alone.

I think that unless Joe pulls his head out of his ass and either put in some money to the servers or take a week's downtime to switch, OR at least have someone help him with the server issues, SPP isn't going to make it to July. I expect a whiny post by him in this thread just whining about "BUT I HAVE LOTS OF UNI WORK! YOU PEOPLE DON'T APPRECIATE ME! I PUT ALMOST 24 MINUTES WORTH OF WORK ON THIS SITE PER DAY!"

He really needs to prioritize though, internet wise.

His forum server has been bad for years. He's obviously either poor at working with ad providers or cheap.

To be fair though, he hasn't sold out completely and become an adware and popup ridden site yet.

Not many sites really rely on warez and popups anymore, due to overwhelmingly negative reactions.
