I can't believe it took me three days to get this going but that's what happens when you get dragged into numerous "problems" your family creates and thus you have to solve it. sigh I sometimes hate being the reliable one.

Anyway, griping aside, I started a new playthrough of Ultra Sun (well, one of my game cards, anyway). I wanted to do something different so here we go.

Started my file and did all the opening cutscene stuff. Made my way to Iku Town only to be ambushed by a terrifying ankle-biter Yungoose. But the trio of the owl, cat, and sea lion chased it off. That meant it was time to pick one of the trio for my first Mon. In a break from tradition I ended up picking Popplio. Now, to be fair, I never hated the Mon, or even disliked it, even when first revealed. I just tend to prefer Fire type Starters. Plus Incineroar is my favorite of the Alola trio. But I decided to do something different and picked Popplio. I didn't bother resetting for gender or Nature as I kept getting side-tracked by RL events, so I settled for a male with a Docile Nature who I named Stefano after the sea lion from Madagascar 3.

Now it was on to Iku Town. Ran into Hau and he took Litten. Battle time! Stefano ended up one-shoting Litten thanks to a well-timed crit Water Gun. While waiting for the Kahuna I wandered to Manola Trail and ended up saving Lillie and Nebby... but ended up needing saving myself. Thank goodness for the fickle Tapu Koko coming to my aid. Hmm... I wonder if that means anything? Anyway, got the Sparkling Stone that the Tapu left and escorted Lillie back to Kukui, where I met Hala and gave him the Sparkling Stone. Then I went home.

The next day came and it was time for a festival. Did the blasted catching tutorial and made my way to Iku Town again, catching as much as I could, while also leveling up Stefano to Level 10. None of the Mons I caught will be final team members as I had selected a bunch of random eggs that I had in another file to transfer over, though it would have to wait until I gained access to the Quick Link function. Anyway, battled all the Trainers along the way and ran into the two weird aliens in funky suits. Weird guys.

Moving on I partook in the battle with Hau for the festival. Hau... wasn't very smart. Stefano soloed both Pichu and Litten, not taking any damage, as Pichu wasted time using Charm on a Special Attacker and I one-shotted Litten with Water Gun (again). After getting Tapu Koko's approval it was time for the next day's events.

Met up with Lillie, got some spending cash from mom, and got a few hints that Lillie's family life is... problematic. After getting the Rotom Dex and doing more tutorial stuff (and had a very frustrating time trying to catch an Inkay that burst out of 4 Poke Balls despite being in the red :annoyedVoltorb:) I finally gained access to the Quick Link function. I traded over the eggs and hatched them, learning their contents: Exeggcute (female), Fennekin (female), Hawlucha (male), A-Grimer (male), and Rockruff (male), who I named Yoko, Jessica, Ricochet, Junko, and Silverbolt. I honestly didn't know what was in them, I just picked them by their balls, especially since, according to the data I had on those eggs, they were from months ago. Also, I came to learn that Yoko and Jessica had their Hidden Abilities (and some Egg Moves) and Silverbolt had Own Tempo, which made for some interesting events. Anyway, I grinded the newly hatched Mons up to Level 8 (with Jessica's Magician managing to steal 2 Pretty Feathers from Wingulls and a Lagging Tail from a Slowpoke) before tackling the most annoying tutorial stage in the game: the Trainers' School.

Now it was time for the slog that is the Trainers' School. Oi. Having the EXP Share helped speed up the grinding process. Caught a few Mons at the Trainers' School, battled the Trainers, got some items, and then duked it out with the principal. Stefano easily handled the Bonsly, Metapod, and Ekans Trainers while Junko took care of the A-Grimer Trainer and finally Ricochet dealt with the principal and her Rowlet. Glad that slog is over with.

Now it's on to the next steps of the tutorial island, which includes getting the PokeFinder (which I never use because I don't care about it), got the Lens Case from Lillie, and caught a few more Mons. Also got the 10 Ultra Balls from the Scientist for having 10+ entries in my dex so those will come in handy. Obtained some new items, got my first two Totem Stickers, and got 10,000 Pokedollars for catching an Abra for the Beauty before calling it quits for the day. It took me 3 days to get this far thanks to RL complications but that should be the end to the worst of the tutorials.

My Team:

Stefano (Popplio, male, Lv15)
Yoko (Exeggcute, female, Lv11)
Jessica (Fennekin, female, Lv14)
Ricochet (Hawlucha, male, Lv11)
Junko (A-Grimer, male, Lv11)
Silverbolt (Rockruff, male, Lv11)

i loove playthroughs that use pokemon hatched from eggs/traded from other files. just a handful of egg moves or the odd species here and there can add so much variety to the experience. love your team so far!

Update time. Meant to mention this yesterday but I had a lot going on.

Anyway, it's time to continue tutorial island. After collecting some more Totem Stickers it was time to duke it out with Team Skull. Effortless win on my end. Then it was time to face off against Illima. Thanks to Ricochet it was another easy win. I should also mention that Stefano and Jessica evolved at this point. After doing some more exploring, getting Revives from Lillie, and petting the Tauros it was time to move onto Route 2.

Spent some time catching Mons and battling the Trainers on Route 2. Also had to duke it out with Team Skull again at Big Wave Beach. Another effortless win for me as Junko OHKO the Drowzee. Now it's time to do a bit more battling, catching, and collecting items like getting Berries. After meeting up with Hau and getting the Roto-Loto function activated it was time to do the Normal Trial. Thanks to getting Brick Break Ricochet now has a very powerful move at this point in the game. But first more Team Skull nonsense. Another effortless win from Junko against Drowzee. I followed that up with an OHKO on the Totem Gumshoos thanks to Ricochet's Brick Break, ending the battle despite the Totem's Defense boost, gaining the Normalium Z.

After getting the tutorial on how to use Z-Moves it was time to find Lillie. After duking it out with the Trainers on Route 3 and making my way into Melemele Meadow it was time to save Nebby. Again. Spent a bit of time hunting for Mons (and hoping to have Jessica's Magician Ability steal an item or two) before battling Dulse and his Furfrou. Once again Ricochet took care of business. After doing a bit of exploring in the cave and catching more Mons I "talked" to Nebby and reunited it with Lillie. Shortly afterward I had another battle with Hau. Stefano dealt with Litten easily. Yoko took care of Pikachu without much trouble. And Silverbolt handled Noibat. Nice and easy. I wrapped up my business on Route 3, got the TM for Roost, and made my way to Iki Town for the Grand Trial. Hala was a pushover with my team. Stefano took care of Machop with Disarming Voice while Ricochet handled Makuhita and Crabrawler with Aerial Ace (though he did eat a Fake Out from Makuhita but that only delayed the inevitable). Thus I won the Fightinium Z and gained access to Tauros Charge.

With my shiny new Tauros Charge I checked out all the areas I was unable to explore previously because of the rocks, gaining new TMs, items, and new Mons like Munchlax and Bonsly. After catching everything in Ten Carat Hill, including getting the Flyinium Z, and showing my dex to the two Sightseers for cash I roamed around Melemele Island, taking care of any side-quests, such as the events in the mall, before making my way to the Photo Club. Also taught Stefano and Jessica the Pledge moves so they'd have some better STAB moves (as Stefano had Bubble Beam and Jessica had... Fire Spin). Stopped for the night yesterday and plan to continue today after taking care of some RL business.

My Team:

Stefano (Brionne, male, Lv26)
Yoko (Exeggcute, female, Lv21)
Jessica (Braxien, female, L25)
Ricochet (Hawlucha, male, Lv22)
Junko (A-Grimer, male, Lv22)
Silverbolt (Rockruff, male, Lv21)

Time for another update. Would've done this yesterday but I was having some computer problems and had a doctor's appointment midafternoon.

Anyway, continuing from last time, I completed the last few side-quest on Melemele Island. In the process Silverbolt evolved into Dusk Lycanroc, giving me a fully-evolved Mon. I then traded him over to another version to relearn Accelerock (and, to my surprise, I was also able to relearn Stone Edge, which I decided to add to his movepool, giving him a very strong option and instant access to his signature Z-Move later on). But after completing all the lasts side-quests it was time to move on to Akala Island. Via the best minigame Pokemon has ever designed: Mantine Surfing! God, I love this little minigame. Not only is it fun, but it's great for grinding BP and great for worldbuilding. So after doing the first bit of Mantine Surf it was time to meet up with Kukui and Lillie. And we also run into Olivia and Mallow. How is that woman still single? Men should be tripping over themselves trying to woo her. I know I would. And why do all the hot adult women in this game shake their hips while they walk?

Anyway, after meeting up with Lillie I bought every TM in the PMC and battled Dexio for an easy win. Also, I changed Junko's name to Chroma, which is Latin for "color". While it's not fitting atm, it will be when he evolves. Plus the name "Junko" tends to be reserved for my Croagunks/Toxicroaks. Anyway, after taking care of some more side-quests and doing a few more rounds of Mantine Surfing to unlock the new techniques and grind BP I taught some Move Tutor moves to my Mons. I taught Jessica Shock Wave to deal with those pesky Water types and Yoko Giga Drain for a more useful STAB over Bullet Seed. Anyway, made my way down Route 4, battled a few Trainers and caught a few Mons, and made my way to Panola Ranch. Time to battle Hau yet again. Like before Stefano beat his Torracat with one move (especially since it's the much stronger Water Pledge over Bubble Beam) even before Torracat could launch his Z-Move. Yoko dealt with Pikachu like last time, though she did eat a Quick Attack but that damage was instantly healed thanks to her new Giga Drain. Ricochet flattened Eevee with ease. And Chroma took care of Noibat. Piece of cake.

After exploring Panola Ranch, battling the Team Skull Grunts, and buying new types of Poke Balls it was time to head to the Nursery. After getting Stoutland Search from Mallow and dealing with the rowdy Tauros (that Ricochet effortlessly clobbered) I picked up the Eevee Egg from the Nursery lady and spent time hatching it with Rotom's power and Tauros Charge. I took the Thunder Stone option since Eevee's Nature better fit that particular evolution and evolved it but swiftly boxed it as I already have a great team. After battling some more Trainers and gaining the ever-useful Amulet Coin Yoko learned Sleep Powder, the move I've been holding off for. As such I felt it was time to evolve her into A-Exeggutor. So after trading over a Leaf Stone I evolved her, gaining a new type in Dragon. I backtracked a bit to teach her Low Kick since it was the best move I could think of that would be good for her (plus it was the best move available to her atm outside of Giga Drain), giving her a fairly mixed attacking set (her Nature is Naïve so while A-Exeggutor is a better Special hitter I decided to make her more mixed because of what options are available to me).

Anyway, I soon fought Gladion. Easy win, as my team was quickly getting very high leveled (for this part of the game, anyway). After doing a bit more battling it was time to take on the Water Trial. Met Lana and the trial commenced. Yoko proved very useful here, as her Giga Drain took care of the Wishiwashi and her Dragon Hammer dealt with the Dewpiders. I also picked up the Charge Beam TM while I was at it though it won't be useful here. But when it came to the Totem I switched things up, putting Ricochet in front and equipping him with the Flyinium Z. Time for the Totem Araquanid. Which ended instantly thanks to one Supersonic Skystrike OHKOing it. Done like dinner. Got the Waterium Z, a Fishing Rod, and some Dive Balls. I opted to stay for a bit so I can catch some Mons. After doing some catching it was time to move on.

I chased off the Sudowoodo and fought Dulse, this time he was armed with the adorable Poipole. Jessica took care of it thanks to her knowing Psychic-type moves. After getting the Mystic Water from the Youngster who was present at the time it was time to move on. I battled all the Trainers on Route 6 and made my way to the Battle Royale. You ain't foolin' me, Kukui. Who else around here has those chiseled abs that you like to show off all the time? After partaking in the Battle Royale (which I won by wiping out Hau's Torracat with Stefano's Water Pledge... again), it was time to head to the Fire Trial.

After doing a bit of shopping at the Thrifty Megamart and taking care of any items/side-quests available I went to Wela Volcano. Spent some time catching Mons and collecting items, including the TM for Rock Tomb. I taught that to Chroma to give him some useful coverage until he evolves (as he still has a ways to go). I made my way up to Kiawe and partook in the dance of Alola's people... I mean the Fire Trial. During the Totem Battle with A-Marowak I swapped out Stefano for Jessica since she could deal with the ally Salazzle better (plus the Totem always opens up with Detect so it made for a free switch). She crushed Salazzle and then proceeded to steal the Totem's Thick Club with Psybeam, thus weakening its power. I then swapped her out for Stefano who finished the job with a crit Water Pledge. Another Trial won, another Totem defeated, albeit this one took a team effort instead of an OHKO (plus I wanted that Thick Club despite not having an A-Marowak). Got the Firium Z, some Quick Balls, and Charizard Glide (why they picked Charizard as the Ride Pokemon for Fly I don't know since it's not even in the dex... damn Kanto pandering). After that I met Mohn and gained access to Poke Palego. I made a quick stop there, upgraded Isle Abeane to max level, build Isle Aplenty, and collected many Poke Beans, including some Rainbow Poke Beans. This allowed me to max Affection my whole team (sans Stefano as he was already maxed by that point), which will prove useful later. Stopped for the night (though I did a bit of catching for the night-dwelling Mons like Surskit and Moralull) and plan to continue today (after my migraine passes, that is, which means, yes, I've been typing all this with a migraine).

My Team:

Stefano (Brionne, male, Lv32)
Yoko (A-Exeggutor, female, Lv27)
Jessica (Braxien, female, Lv31)
Ricochet (Hawlucha, male, Lv28)
Chroma (A-Grimer, male, Lv28)
Silverbolt (Dusk Lycanroc, male, Lv29)

Also, side note, I've been also raising a Trumbeak on the side that was also hatched from a random egg I picked. Her name is Leena, she has Skill Link, the Egg Move Brave Bird, and I'm mostly raising her as a backup plan (even though Hawlucha does everything Toucannon can do and more). Plus I need Toucannon's data anyway since it's very hard to find in the wild. She's Lv21 atm and also had her Affection maxed thanks to the Rainbow Poke Beans.

Because my neighbors woke me up too early this morning (what is it with them and playing music/watching TV at 6 AM?!) I decided to get some more work done in this playthrough.

Anyway, after completing the Fire Trial and gaining access to Poke Palego it was time to move onward to the Grass Trial. I forgot to mention this last time but I also got the TM for Hidden Power when I got the Eevee egg. And I taught it to Stefano for coverage, as his HP was Fighting, thus making it very useful. After meeting with Dulse and Zozie again and later Corless, gaining the TM for Flame Charge in the process. I then proceeded to defeat all the Trainers on the route and get as many items as I could. Then it was time for probably the last tutorial in the game: Festival Plaza. Took care of that easily. Plus since I often trade with myself and have multiple game cards I can exploit the once an day thing with visiting Trainers for more FCs to quickly level up the place. And the fact that my "starting" facilities weren't too shabby (the General Store is particularly helpful as I could get things like Rage Candy Bars and Fresh Water for cheap, even if it's only One Star).

Anyway, after doing more battles, catching a Wimpod, helped the A-Vulpix become more friendly, getting the TM for Sky Drop from the Ace Trainer, and trading a spare Trumbeak for Arbo the Arbok, I decided to raise up my own Trumbeak into a Toucannon so I'd have a backup plan for the Grass Trial. Also I renamed her Momo after the Breath of Fire 3 character. Why? Because Toucannon's beak is a bazooka (well, cannon, but same difference), especially with the moves it gets, and Momo's main weapon in BoF3 is a bazooka (that she can't hit the broad side of a barn with). Though my Momo most certainly can. Anyway, after spending some time grinding her up (which I was able to speed up thanks to a Lucky Egg Jessica pinched from an SOS Chansey earlier) I got my Toucannon. And, in the process, Stefano evolved into Primarina and learned Sparkling Aria, replacing Water Pledge. Then I traded Momo over to another file to relearn both Bullet Seed and Rock Blast, and I replaced Brave Bird with Beak Blast and added in Flame Charge to her moveset to work around her Speed. Anyway, with Momo temporarily added to the ranks (and Silverbolt boxed for the time) it was time to take on Mallow's Trial.

Since I knew this trial inside and out it was easy to get the right ingredients for the Mallow Special. And at least the cooking process wasn't as... suggestive as it was in SM. :sneaky: But it was time to duke it out with the Totem Lurantis. I had Jessica out in front. While Lurantis made the first move Jessica dodged the attack because she loved me too much. And in the process she OHKOed Totem Lurantis with a single Fire Pledge (and nabbed the Power Herb it was holding in the process). Boom! Another trial done. And another freebee item Jessica pinched. So the Grassium Z is now mine. And just to top it off I got the TM for Smart Strike from Kukui and found the TM for Grass Knot in the jungle. Caught a few more Mons for dex data and to complete certain side-quests before I moved on.

After beating the last few Trainers on Route 5 and getting the TM for Brutal Swing I battled the Trial Guide and won pretty easily, gaining the TM for Nature Power. Met up with everyone at the Dimensional Research Lab before moving on to Diglett's Tunnel. After battling the Trainers, gathering items, and beating up Team Skull it was time to head to Konikoni City. After getting a free Thunder Stone from Looker I explored the city, buying up every TM they had in stock, buying some stylish new threads, and purchasing all the fossils and some more Evo Stones it was time to face Olivia. Though I took care of a few side-quests while I was at it. After working my way through all the Trainers in Memorial Hill I encountered Faba and an Aether Foundation Employee. Sure, Faba, whatever you say. (Egotistical jerk alert.) After flattening Team Skull yet again I hunted for some Mons to catch, obtained the TM for Leech Life, and made my way to the Ruins of Life.

However, I was confronted by Plumeria. Again, what is it with all the sexy adult ladies in this game shaking their hips when the walk? Not just ones like Olivia and Plumeria, but I also noticed ones like the female Aether Foundation Employees. Are they trying to seduce an 11 year old Trainer (and a 36 year old dork in RL)? Well, whatever. It was time to fight. Jessica took care of Golbat while Stefano dealt with Salandit. Jessica ended up evolving after the battle into Delphox, which also allowed me to gain both Psyshock and Mystical Fire pretty much at the same time, replacing Psybeam and Fire Pledge, respectively. Okay, with her gone it was time for the Rock Grand Trial.

After meeting up with Lillie and Professor Burnett (who is either really good at hiding the fact she knows who the Masked Royal is or genuinely doesn't realize her crush is also her husband) it was time to battle Olivia. Silverbolt cleaned up Anorith with a single Stone Edge. Ricochet handed Lileep easily, even learning Flying Press shortly afterward upon leveling up. And Stefano took care of Midnight Lycanroc (though it did get off a Continental Crush but it only did about 1/3rd damage because Stefano is pretty tank-y), thus winning me the Rockium Z. Now it was time to head on over to the resort to meet up with Faba.

But first more side-quests. Started up the Ditto Five side-quest. My god, were those Ditto annoying. :annoyedVoltorb: They broke out of every Quick Ball I threw, forcing me to battle them. :annoyedVoltorb: I had to use Stefano to battle them since the only move they could genuinely threaten him with was Disarming Voice, and he's bulky enough to endure multiple attacks (the exception was the 5th Ditto, as its HP was something that he was weak to). But man, those Ditto were a pain in the arse to catch. But I got all five of them and got a nice big paycheck, which helps after all the items/clothes I bought. Then I did some backtracking to Melemele Island to complete the Bewear and Hypno side-quests. And then I made my way to the resort, battling the Trainers there, doing some Pyukumuku chucking for easy cash, and catching and Mons I needed (while also nabbing some items from the wild Mons like Stardust from Staryu and Spell Tags from Sandygast). In the process I also grinded up Chroma into an A-Muk (again, the Lucky Egg I pinched earlier helped a lot). Now I got a goopy goober on my team.

After a bit of thinking I decided that I needed some more coverage moves. Specifically Ground. While I did have the Bulldoze TM it's a bit too risky to use since I've been having a fair few Double/Multi Battles. So, I ended up trading Yoko over to my other file and taught her Stomping Tantrum from the Move Tutor at the Battle Tree. Cheating a bit, I know, but I've already done similar stuff like with the Move Relearner (why they thought it was a good idea to put her at the end of the game baffles me :bulbaFacepalm:). So now I have some Ground coverage, which'll come in handy in the next Trial. Plus with her bad tendency to miss Sleep Powder it'll end up doubling Stomping Tantrum's power (it says a lot that Jessica is able to land Hypnosis more readily than Yoko can with any of the Spore/Powder moves, as Jessica has used Hypnosis at least 30+ times, mostly to help me catch some Mons, and only missed 4 of them!:lapras:) I also taught Ricochet Steel Wing for some coverage against Fairy. Taking a break while my 3DS recharges and will continue after I do some cleaning in the apartment.

My Team:

Stefano (Primarina, male, Lv40)
Yoko (A-Exeggutor, female, Lv35)
Jessica (Delphox, female, Lv38)
Ricochet (Hawlucha, male, Lv37)
Chroma (A-Muk, male, Lv38)
Silverbolt (Dusk Lycanroc, male, Lv37)

Extra: Momo (Toucannon, female, Lv30)
