The leader of TQ seems to have little if any emotions (similar to Paul). The only time he shows any form of emotions is when he appears near the end of the DP season 2 series in Celestic Town museum when he and his team steal the two orbs. He is in his “businessman” disguise as he approaches Cynthia, our heroes and her grandmother. We see him have a huge smile on his face as he greets everyone and speaks with them. Of course, we know that there is something far more sinister behind that smile.

He then shows extreme rage when Dawn and Ash express no connection when viewing the orb because they saw two of the lake guardians. Then when TR threatens to destroy the orb he really flies off of the handle. His eyes even glow red at some point, I don’t know if it was just drawn that way for dramatic effect of if his eyes really did go red along with the diagram on the wall.

In my own thoughts along with the some things I have read from other websites some say that he saw Mesprit at some point and it wiped away his emotions. It makes sense because at the start of Platinum he is at Lake Verity and he could have been at one of the other 2 lakes, but he was at that particular one. Another support for my theory is that perhaps he was able to break that loss of emotion when he became extremely mad at TR, and that could have been a reason that he lost his cool. Along with the glowing red eyes, it could have indicated that a higher power did something to his mind.

Then when he appears after that he is stoic especially at Spear Pillar. Well to break it down, he could have put on that fake act being cheery because his master plan demanded it and anyone can put a smile on their face. Remember in Mewtwo Returns, Domino points out that “TR has agents everywhere; ha a smiling face can hide the deadliest foes!”

Does anyone think otherwise about this?

I think they were just inconsistant and forgot that they at first made him closer to his DPA incarnation.

Also, there's no evidence that he touched Mesprit in any continuity, since all continuities have him showing emotion at some point.

Irony is that desire is an emotion and his goals were fueled by it. He desired a world free of strife. If he had no emotion, he wouldn't have gone after it.

Why does it have to be a supernatural cause that made him like that? His grand father in Platinum mentions all the stress Cyrus was put under due to his parents and wished that he had stepped in. Obviously the stress had caused him to shut out his emotions, yet it is what gave him the hatred towards the current universe that he had. It's what caused him to desire a world without strife, and he set out to fulfill his goal.

If Mesprit had wiped his emotions, he would not have felt any of this. He would have let go of his hatred, and just lived on life as normal, not feeling emotions and not having the drive to do anything. There are people in real life, who had damage to their brains and no longer exhibited emotion, and did not show emotions recalling memories that should elicit them. They didn't even fake emotions. You think that someone whose emotions were supernaturally removed would be able to fake something he probably won't be able to recall having? After all, you can't really recall an emotion you are unable to feel.

If Cyrus had already seen Mesprit in that lake, he wouldn't have needed to use the Galactic bomb. The reason he was probably at that lake is because Mesprit is the being of emotion, something he wants to cast aside, so he was probably there as more of a challenge towards Mesprit, that he is going to rid the world of everything that Mesprit stands for.

Now again, if Cyrus had his emotions removed, there is no possible reason for him to want to rid the world of emotions, because he simply wouldn't care.

Well, there's the possibility that he would view it as something that would have to be done, which would, given the division of the psyche presented in the games, fall under "willpower". But since he's always, ALWAYS, shown to possess emotion no matter what he claims, I guess we won't know how they would have manifested this.

Of course, it begs the question of why he didn't touch Mesprit when he had the chance, but...

Because while he would have no real emotion, everyone else would. D: His goal was no spirit/emotion, period. That meant EVERYONE'S emotions had to go, not just his.

Well yeah (in Platinum anyway--in DP he only talks about it regarding himself), but he had the opportunity to do so himself in the present world and for some reason didn't take it. Even though he strikes me as the sort of guy who would want to be his ideal as soon as he could.

8D; Well, I never played D/P, just Platinum, so I wouldn't know. Better yet, he could have kept the Master Ball for himself and used it to catch one of the Dragon Trio. That way, they'd be HIS personal bitch for the rest of the game, making his plan easier. Then the Mesprit thing?

No, actually, he couldn't have. Read the report on his computer in his office--he talks about how pokeballs negate a pokemon's natural abilities. So thus the Red Chain.

Cyrus probably never touched Mespirit because he felt he had no need to. After all, he thought that soon the world would be reconfigured, making Mespirit useless. Or, he did touch Mespirit, but it would take time to completely purge Cyrus of emotion.

Though, I do wonder if that only applies to incredibly powerful Pokemon as there would be no reason to nerf a Bidoof.
