Kind of like the GSC Debate/Wishlist thread, where we discuss what we want Game Freak to add to the third installment of Diamond and Pearl, and I guess debate the enevitable "Who's gonna be the 3rd game Mascot"

For the third game, I was hoping that Game Freak would do something about the PC system. I mean we have a touch screen, but it is seldom used on the PC, and it's only real usage is to swap boxes, which one can do easily the traditional way. What I was thinking was that they should add two modes to the PC system; the "traditional mode" where it acts like the current PC, and the "touch mode" where we are able to do everything on the touch screen.

I also think they need to bring back the Item's PC. Eventhough they've given us a well organised bag, it still does not change the fact that our most commonly used pocket, the Item's Pocket is flooded with many many items, which often makes scrolling through to find something near impossible. If they don't want to do this, then perhaps a "Search item" feature should be created where you search the items alphabetically (which I think they should use for the Pokemon PC boxes aswell)

Next up is the return of the Battle Frontier. We've got to admit that more and more people have gotten into the competitive scene thanks to wifi, so why not test them with this? Sure people have saidthat PBR's Poketopia is this generations Frontier, but the Frontier's Battle Styles were much more interesting than anything PBR has shown us. Game Freak could even take a page from the anime and have the Battle Stadiums scattered through out the new Island, where we would have to find them, a true testament to a trainer's determination. Here are some location ideas:

Battle Tower

This can stay exactly where it is

Battle Arena

Since this tests a persons's Guts (which I guess would be their toughness), a perfect location for this institutions would be somewhere on route 227, the route before Stark Mountain. Because only the toughest Trainers can win in the Battle Arena, having it set up near Stark mountain, where only the touchest of the touch go, is perfect

Battle Palace

The relaxing atmosphere of the Battle Palace makes the Resort Area a perfect place to hold this institution.

Battle Pyramid

Can anyone else think of a better place than the desert? Braving the sand storm in order to challenge the Pyramid King!

Battle Factory

The Battle Area would be the perfect place for this. Trainers who have just entered and who may not be ready to battle other institutions can test their skills out in the Battle Factory as soon as they reach the island.

Battle Dome

Well, since it's matches are tourney style, I find the Survival Area a fitting place to hold this institution. You will need to survive sall those rounds to get to the Dome Ace

Battle Pike

There's an island on Route 30 where the Battle Pike could be held. Why that island? Well it's so secluded you'd be lucky to find it!

Now some of you may be thinking that the Frontier should change their symbols, I for one think they should keep it the same. The seven symbols of the Battle Frontier: Ability, Strategy, Guts, Bravery, Spirit, Knowledge, and yes, even Luck are all aspects that a Trainer needs to be successful. Now when I say luck I don't mean haxing them with OHKO moves, but the kind of luck where when two people who are equally matched battles each other, the only difference will be who is luckier. Of course, all these Battle Institutions need a wifi feature ;)

Now onto who I think will be the third game Mascot, although I've always said Giratina, Heatran may actually be a plausable choice. If they do bring back the Battle Frontier, I can actually see them forming a story line with the Frontier, and of course, your latest rival, Buck.

I agree, with pretty much everything. I agree with you on Giratina instead of Heatran but that's because I like Ghost and Dragon types more than Fire and Steel. I've got the strat guide open to Route 230, but I only see one Island, and, ummm, it's kind of big, and in the middle of the route. I can see a luck base spot up on 226. north of the house, which is considerably harder to find. 'minds me of a dream I had about Battle Frontier, but it had Theryguy512 dressed like Greta. Don't ask.

Homestly, I only said that Island because I was surfing for so long that I was happy to see any land at all. Also it seems like a pretty big place, so something could go there. Hey maybe they can make a maze or something.

Also, I think that the Poketch needs an upgrade. They need a menu page where you can see little icons of all the features and click them. I mean there's a giant red button, We could split it ino three smaller ones. A scroll up, and scroll down, since I doubt we'd fir all the features in one page, and also for scrolling up and down the features you've selected. The centre button would be the "main menu" button, while you just touch the screen to select the feature.

And I know I mentioned the wifi thing already, but Game Freak should also add a link up and a Friend Code wifi feature for the many kinds of battling that will be present in the Battle Frontier. I also have a couple of ideas on how they could slightly alter the battling styles.

Also Wifi Contests.

I haven't played any of the games set in Hoenn (I had Sapphire, but my brother and I played it for around 20 minutes each before both we got bored), but giving the player more stuff to do after they defeat the Elite Four is always great. Return of the PC item storage would be nice - I don't want to carry around all those Plates I keep digging up from the Underground. Wasted space.

Here are a few things I hope they add or change for the 3rd version:
1. Bring back Gym Leader re-matches. Though I've never experienced that myself, I always like to see how people have improved.
2. Continue the Team Galactic story. If the third game also ends with Cyrus, Mars, Jupiter, and a plethora of grunts running off, leaving Saturn in the labs not knowing what the hell is going on, I'll be disappointed to say the least. Along that note, I hope, some time, during the 3rd version, that the player gets to team up with Saturn.
3. Make things less obvious. It's always kind of irritated me how everything was so convenient.
4. I wouldn't mind more intelligent A.I...it doesn't seem to have changed much over the past 10 years.
5. I would like it if the Galactic grunts had names. It's a really small thing, I know.
6. If characters noticeably progressed (example, you see Cheryl a few times along in your journey, and after a time she gets more Pokémon or might give you some treasure or Enchanted Honey) I would like it a lot. After you get through your initial battle or team-up they're pretty much gone, if I recall correctly. Just...running into people more frequently would be a nice touch.

Other then that, I don't have much to say. I think Giratina will be the mascot, though I'm not sure how it's story will play out...I'm kind of hoping it isn't portrayed as some huge evil creature that rebelled against Arceus just 'because.'

Okay, I can understand that, It took me a while to find it due to how dang slow you move while surfing. Maybe holding B down like you're running would make you go faster. The Poketch needs that upgrade, and a few more apps. I enjoy the Hypercube Back Pack, since I have all my pockets arranged. Rematches are fun, although being able to choose double and single battles. Not that I have anything against double battles, variety is good. The only thing I slightly disagree on is #3. In RBY, I had to guess my way through the game, and even then, I couldn't figure out how to go past Vermillion. I agree that they have made things simpler, but to hard is also not fun.

I really like th character progression idea, and the teaming up with Saturn reminded me of something....

How are they going to handle Dialga and Palkia in the story line? Is it going to be like the battles with your parters liek Cheryl, where you team up with your opposite gender rival and battle them? Although I would find this to be amazing, I can't help but notice the fact that int his situation, you will only be able to catch one of them, after all, you weren't allowed to throw a Pokeball at a Pokemon when there were still two of them.

Perhaps if they let you have another chance at catching the other one later, like how they gave you a second chance with the Fossils in the Desert Underpass. Maybe Saturn will contact you somehow (perhaps a messenger Pokemon?) telling you how the machines at Galactic HQ are acting up because it is picking up the signal of an ancient Pokemon and tells you to head back to mount Cornet. You catch the one you didn't get to before, and then after the battle, Saturn comes up and tells you that the machines are still picking something up, whcih is where you go to fight Giratina. There you will find Cyrus trying to capture the beast in his last ditch attempt to make a new world, and your final battle begins...

Also a more in-depth legend on all the legendary pokemon. It doesn't have to be a whole plot, just people talking about their legends. You'd think the people of Snowpoint would talk about Regigigas more seeing as his temple is right there.

Nothing is just 'because', however the pokemon games never really explain why in the game, they save that for the anime.

I've always seen Giratina as the shadow of Arceus. It would rebel against it because it is the exact opposite of the other. The creator and the destroyer...

I started a fanfic going more in-depth into it, but I never got very far. It didn't help that the main characters were suppposed to be Team Galactic. I didn't know how to pick it up after Cyrus dissapeared. (As I had started thinking of it before replaying the game and remembering that happened.)

Anyway, you guys have taken just about everything I'd really want in there. I'd probably enjoy being able to do Secret bases agin, though. They were fun - and the underground ruined them. I'd like aboveground secret bases, or at least the option to have one theat wasn't underground.

EDIT: It appears people posted while I was writing mine...

Being able to obtain all three starters without trading ala yellow. More Amity square pokes. More variety in the battle tower. Slight change in the TM spread. I dunno, mainly lots of little things. Perhaps more hints as to the little "extras" you can get.

I agree with everything here. now my chance to suggest some of my own ideas. So here they are:

1. Someway to get the two fossila in the third game.Maybe they can both be found underground.
2. If Heatran is the cover pokemon then perhaps a story inolving that its angered about all construction on the island, so it intends to awaken Stark Mountain and cover the island in lava. And cyrus and team galactic can fit in somewhere as well.

For achieving the feat of obtaining all the Gold Symbols in the Battle Frontier, I think one should be rewarded with the Azure Flute. I mean someone who has shown that the excell at all the characteristics of being a Pokemon Master surely deserves a shot at Arceus.

This reminds me of the Hindu religion where I believe it was Sheva, who was the destroyer god and Brahma the creator god. They don't see Sheva as a malevolent creature, but a necessity to life. He gets rid of the old, and makes way for the new, he allows Brahma to do his job.

I second the Battle Tower variety. I already knew that the Pokemon had pre-set movesets (some having more than one) but I've also noticed how trainers had pre-set teams. Mixing it up would be nice.

As for the TM spread, I doubt anything can be done about it, but bringing Move tutors back along with the Battle Frontier would be great. They can teach your Pokemon moves for Battle Points. We really need the Softboiled tutor back for sweeping Togekiss, and also Seismic Toss to make breeding a competitive Blissey a breeze.

Also I'd like to see the elemental punches return aswell. A lot of Pokemon make good use of them, unfortunately a lot of those Pokemon only have access of it through the Emerald Battle Frontier.

i agree with the elemental punch idea, thats my main issue with this Gens TM spread as they can be so usefull for certain physical sweepers.

Im behind you wit hthe battle frontier idea, the third instalment can be the only reason i can think that they left it out of DP.

As for the Azure flure, im almost certain it wont happen, but it WOULD be nice....

I'd like if you could face off against opponents you have battled over WiFi again offline, like the house in viridian in GSC.

I ahve one question I don't really know giratina's backstory so can someone explain it to me?

Well, just because Arceus and Giratina are opposites doesn't mean they have to rebel or fight against one another. It's a bit like Zeus and Hades. Hades might be stern, but he is still just, and if anything he and Zeus are allies. Well, okay, Hades and Zeus aren't quite opposites, but it's the best example I could come up with. Now that I think about it, I kind of like how some things are left unexplained...that way you get to fill in the holes yourself.

Stories with Team Galactic as the main characters are kind of difficult to write. Sure, they have personalities (even some grunts did), but since the story in the game ends so abruptly it's hard to know where it could go without a lot of thought and research. I think I remember seeing a fan fiction that picked up where the games left off - I think Cyrus had a back-up plan and Mars and Jupiter followed him to some alternate lab or something...I didn't read it for very long.

As for my third point, Midnight, I was referring more to the story rather then the game itself, if that makes any sense --- how some of the Galactic grunts practically tell you your next task (like the grunt who said something along the lines of "I'm going to lock myself in the Windworks! You can't get in without using the key belonging to my cohorts in the flower field!") or after that battle with Mars and Jupiter your rival heals your Pokémon. Sure, that was a good gesture and all, but...eh. It was just too convenient for my liking. :\ Kind of cut down on the big epic battle feeling, you know?

Oh yeah, I forgot about the slow Surfing. That, and the frequency of wild Pokémon encounters needs to be changed for the better. I would like a Slow/Fast speed of Surfing. I also agree on the choice between having a double or single battle. That way you could experiment with things.

I'm also curious as to how they're going to deal with Palkia and Dialga in the third game. I liked the scenario you worked out, "L" - it makes sense. Since I've always been interested in legends and myths, the ones concerning the legendary Pokémon fascinate me (great, I'm starting to sound like Cyrus...). Though I haven't been to Snowpoint yet, I'll be sure to look for that temple. I've wanted a book about the stories of the legendaries for a long time now, though I don't think I'm going to be getting my wish anytime soon. I think the books in the Canalave library are very interesting, though. I wish there were more.

...I forgot about Amity Square. Though it's not a very big place, I agree on it being very restrictive.

I know its just a little thing, but dont you think it'd be nice if you could fly to ANYWHERE you had already been, as apposed to just towns/cities?

@Eversti: Ahhhhh, that would be better. I understand that, and maybe for people who are new to the series could have a difficulty similar to, "Bwahahahahahhahahaha I'm hiding in here, and you have no chance of Blahblahblahblahblahblah by doing blah to blah and blah" for newbies.

Yeah, I have to respect your allusion there, L.

I've never seen Ginatina as evil, just the opposite of Arceus. I imagine the two of them would have a rivalry similar to that of Dialga and Palkia. In the newest movie, the two of them are in a continuous battle outside time and space.

I imagine Arceus and Giratina the same way. Giratina destroys to create, while Arceus creates to destroy. (Sorry... you wouldn't know what I'm referring to there, it's something in my fantfic.) The two balance each other out, keeping the world safe, and whole.

*(The line refers to, in my story, there being a mirror world to the normal one that you play in in the games. In Giratina's pokedex entry, it mentions it. When Arceus 'creates' a soul, it is taken from a living being in Giratina's world. When Giratina 'destroys' somebody in Arceus' realm, the soul is the reborn in his world. A perfect balance.)*

You can, you fly anywhere there's a Pokemon centre if that's any conssellation.

Sand Drew, there's very little back-story on Giratina. They don't evenmention it in Canalave's Creation Story.

Eversti, I think Game Freak made the Galactic Grunts act that way to show how stupid they are, and that they are basically sheep. Cyrus probably doesn't care about any of them, but perhaps he's a very charismatic speaker and is able to get people to see things his way, or he promises hope to those who are hopeless. I mean a Galactic Grunt did mention they were part of Team Magma at one point didn't they? Prehaps after Magma disbanded, the grunt had nothing more going for him, and Cyrus came along sharing his vision of a whole new world.

That's probably why they don't show their individual names, to show Cyrus's impartiality towards them. He is only using them to meet his own ends.

I like how the one grunt says

"So we'll just say 'you'll get yours!' and run like the grunts we are."

Electro:
The relationship you worked out between Arceus and Giratina makes a lot of sense, though it took me a few minutes to understand it. Is the fiction complete, or are you still working on it? I'd like to read it if that's all right with you.

Oh, and about the grunt's line, yeah, I like a lot of them. Some of my favorite lines are "This brat's tough! Like, really really tough! Tougher than I can put into words, and I know a lot of words!", "I went out of my way to deliver my cool lines before the battle! You should've let me win! Get a grip on reality already!", and "I played you for a child and paid a stiff price for my arrogance...however, you're much too late. Team Galactic has already found the sunken island under the lake. And the Pokémon that lay in it? Well, what do you think?", though in all truth I love just about everything they say.

L:
Yeah, I guessed that, though not all of them are stupid. There was one grunt who said he was on the verge of being promoted to a commander, and near the end a few grunts were starting to second-guess their loyalty to Cyrus, plus there was that one grunt who told of his friend who left to go back home after "they", which I'm guessing means one of the commanders, took his Clefairy away. They are sheep, I must admit, and I'm pretty certain Cyrus didn't give a damn about them. I'm also fairly certain Cyrus is a great speaker. Everyone in Team Galactic was so enthusiastic, especially Commander Saturn, who went around reciting the credo. I think there was someone on the PokéCommunity forums who went looking for Cyrus after he disappeared, because he "couldn't get enough of that guy"...I find Cyrus' philosophies curious as well. Sometimes I wish I could just listen to him explain things - he's a pretty weird guy, all in all, and his views about the world, after a while, actually make a bit of sense.

Though, I don't remember any grunt giving hints that they were apart of a past Team. Do you remember what they said?

Hate to interrupt, but what do you think the Title would be?

Dialga-D-Diamond
Palkia-P-Pearl

It's presumed that the enxt one will be.

Giratina-G

Seeing a pattern? Gemstones beginning with G... Garnet. I'm guessing version 3 willbe Garnet. Anybody else have a comment?
