Daisy's accent?

I have always wondered what kind of accent Misty's sister Daisy got...I can't remmember if the other sisters got the same accent.

I'm just glad Dawn didn't get that accent. Its ok for recurring characters but I wouldn't be able to tolerate a major character with that voice in every ep.

Dawn has a lot of similarities with Misty's sisters if you think about it, so I'm glad Dawn didn't get the, "Y'know whatEVER!" type of voice.

Well, when you think about it, Flint is just as big of an airhead as the Sensational Sisters are. He runs off on his own gym and leaves his unprepared son in charge.

Flint (Kanto) is just whipped, compared to the Sensational Sisters, given his purported nymphomania on Lola (don't blame me; someone else speculated that he and Lola were nymphos). I mean, if we want the Sisters out of Cerulean Gym, then, all the writers have to do is have Lola challenge Misty, only for the latter to lose (and see them AAMLers celebrate! XD).

There. Problem solved.

But when he flaked out on his family, Lola wasn't even there. If he was truly whipped, he'd have gone with her.

And yeah, ten kids? Fawning all over each other at every opportunity? I'd say that's an accurate assessment of their personal lives.

Now that I think of it, alot of characters have phony accents that suggest they grew up somewhere far away from the setting the show takes place in. How on earth can Misty's older sisters have a valley girl accent while Misty herself does not? What about certain oneshot characters with french accents? english? spanish? Hell, there are a few with "jewish" accents (though they tend to be based on certain comedians like Mel Brooks). Why on earth do they have them in the first place?

Well, why are Bill and Whitney the only characters in Goldenrod to have Osaka accents even though the city's based on Osaka? And does that make *them* the foreigners or everyone *else*? And the dub confuses even more, because Whitney has a standard accent while Bill has a British accent.

PDL, you're kinda ignoring the whole fact that the characters in the dub, y'know, speak english...despite, y'know, not living there.

Besides, EVERYONE has an accent.

Cuz you know, english is only dominant tongue in england and isn't actually the most widely used language in the world right?

What sort of language do you suppose the people of the Pokémon world speak anyway?

I'm well aware that people have accents, what I want to know is how is it possible that some people picked up an accent when everyone else around them speaks a totally different dialect. People learn to speak a certain way from growing up with people who speak that way. A child from Kent, england with parents and other family members from the area would usually grow up speaking with a Kentish dialect. There's almost no chance that he'll end up with a mexican accent.

Then again, this is a cartoon so a suspension of disbelief is required.

Going off the quoted line, the characters don't technically live in Japan either, just in an area similar to it, and even then not that much. So the "why are they speaking (x dubbed language)" question also extends to the original track as well.

For the same reason Meowth picked up a Brooklyn accent even though nobody in "Go West, Young Meowth" had one.

Can't you all just accept that it is magic ;)

And as far as Misty not having a valley girl accent? You can definitely acquire that accent not living in California (or any other place where it is considered common). I know lots of girls here that have picked up such an accent while their siblings did not (and hick + valley girl is an abominable combination).

And in the Pokemon world, it's very common to travel a lot. The coming and going of accents should be normal.

Thank you for all of your answers. Not that I know what "village" girl mean, though =P
anyways...I have to say, when it comes to talking offtopic bulbagarden users are the best! =O

Valley girl. A valley girl is a girl of a ditzy or airheaded personality and an unapologetically spoiled behavior. It referred to spoiled rich kids from an area of Los Angeles in the past, but now spoiled brats from any place in the US can be valley girls. =3

As for that "why characters have accents/dialects" question: giving a character an accent or a dialect is an easy way to differentiate them from other characters. Accents/dialects also tend to have stereotypes attached to them - like the valley girl accent as described above. Stereotypes is often a shortcut to characterization.

Thank you very much for your answers both Habunake and Snake Bandage!
Very much apreciated :).

Of course, this only applies to the dubbed version of these characters since, in the Japanese version, they all speak with the same accent that Kasumi uses.

The dub seems to add accents willy-nilly most of the time, but at least they're consistent. All most all forms of Bill speak with a British accent, except for PokeSpe, which gave him a Texan accent. I mean, seriously, what the fudge?

which gave him a Texan accent.
Now let me confirm this. Is Bill's accent realy Texan or just Southern becasue the average person says Texan instead of Southern. Lots of people say Osaka has a Texan accent even though it's southern.
The difference between the two is... well it's there. Listen to Bush speak then listen to Osaka (dub only) speak.

Same thing with New York and New Jersey. It's a New Yawk accent not New Joisey, although since lots of New Yorkers migrate there...
