Had a discussion with others about this awhile back in that topic, I still don't feel resolution on the issue. Why don't we discuss it then? :D

I think Damion isn't the name we should be using for the Rival character in DP on the Bulbapedia. I think, if anything, Pearl should be used. But Damion isn't consistant with ANYTHING so far, other than what seems to be rumors, and I do think it needs to be at least changed away from that.

Here's what I got in support for the names from the last thread:

Damion
-It's been used by NOA [claim made by some, but I dont see any backing to it.]
-It was what the Nintendo Player's guide used [point made by one person, others said it wasn't.]
-
The Incarnation ポケモン said:
Funny I should read that not long after I checked my Journal in Pearl on my first visit to Oreburgh, and it said that I had defeated some trainer named Damion, even though I don't recall ever battling a Damion. I let my rival have the default name of Diamond, default as in the name that the game chooses every time you pick to name him and then hit OK without inputting anything.
^Okay, I was able to test this. Damion did not come up in the journal, just the default-by-auto name given.

Barry
-First on the name list in Diamond ('primary' version).
-Barry/Palmer semi-pun.

Pearl
-Name he gets by auto entry in 'primary' version. We never picked a name for a character before just because it was on the top of a list, but we have from auto-entry before.

Not exactly evidence, but it backs up my claim:
-The name of his PokeSpecial counterpart, so at least this isn't coming out of nowhere.
-Every major rival has been named after the alternative version of the 'primary' version so far. RSE was an exception because Wally was not the major rival who picked the opposing Pokémon.
-At the very least, his name should be Diamond AND Pearl, if you don't like the 'primary' version thing.

So I'm open to being proven wrong here, and I'm getting told a quite a few people that the in-game data dosen't directly refer to him by one name, if anyone wanted to go off of that. So, um, discuss.

It is confirmed that the screenshots in Nintendo Power's D/P guide have the rival's name as Damion. This doesn't prove anything though. In the Japanese Diamond version, the first selectable name for your rival is Jun, which is commonly accepted, so Barry should be the equivalent of Jun since it is also the first selectable name.

I also think it should be either Barry(first selectable option in Diamond) or Clint(first selectable option in Pearl).

Just call em Diamond and Pearl respectively, until an episode comes out where the look-alike's name is heard.

Because all of the male protagonists and rivals from the games have always been shafted, with the only exception of Gold/Kenta.

Gold's japanese in-game name isn't Kenta as far as I know. And in the dub he was Jimmy.

They're being more careful now with using names like May, Dawn and Solana. Albeit the Raikou special aired after May got her name - If you've read Dogasu's comparisons, something was seriously wrong with the group that did the Cronicles special.

And I still want to know how the name Jun was used in a Japanese magazine.

It was actually his default name besides Gold, and the very same name was used in the original Raikou special.

I know that a certain D/P manga calls him Jun.

No it wasn't. Gold's default name is Hiroki/Hiro, as the first ordinary name underneath 'Gold' in the Gold version. Kenta/Jimmy was the name of a in-game trainer you found on the road in G/S.

I guess you're right. I probably confused myself with Silver/Kamon. Anyways, when I said Gold/Kenta, I was talking about the anime, which is where the name Kenta came from. Do you see my point?

I know the fanbase used Hiro for awhile, or still partially uses it. But the fact that we abandoned that (at least in the wiki) and other similar incidents makes me think using Pearl should be obvious.

I realize the popular name is Jun right now, but Hiro used to be the popular name (from my memory) and I think we should be consistent with that.

Maybe the Japanese magazine context could change my mind, but nobody seems to really know that.

What other context could there be? Jun was used in the same way Hikari and Kōki was used.

Damion was only seen on screenshots in Prima Guide.

But Prima Guide never called him Damion. It's only on one or two screens.

It was also in screenshots of Nintendo Power, but they only referred to him as the rival.

How about for now we call him Blonde D/P Rival Dude? Because at least then we'd know who we were talking about.

I saw Barry on the Prima Guide screenshots, actually, not Damion.
