Darian's Story
Welcome to my fanfic. I created an entire new region, I made places, even a map, but I never really got around to finishing this story. I posted it on gaia a few years back, but I believe it is time to add upon it. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh do exist in this universe. (I suppose the new one as well, Isshu is it?) I hope you Enjoy ^_^
Preface
The Kalen region is home to almost every species of Pokemon known to man. It is the elite of regions with 17 Gyms scattered throughout the region with many towns, villages and cities to explore. The fanfic begins as our hero leaves his hometown. The tale tells of battling rival trainers, making friends, creating bonds between Darian and his partners, fighting the devious Team Rocket (Celeste and Derrick) or just helping people in need.
Places of interest in this chapter:
Korin Town (One of the southern most towns in Kalen. Where Professor Willow resides in her lab/pokemon ranch)

Chapter 1: A Trainer is Born
“Today’s the day,” the teen repeated in his sleep, slowly lifting the bedcovers over his head. Unbeknownst to the teen, his alarm clock had been beeping for three hours straight. He slowly opened one eye, the sun shining brightly through the window. Suddenly, he began to hear a really annoying sound and his eyes finally fell upon the beeping blue bird. He couldn’t make out if the clock was flashing six o’clock or nine o’clock. As his eyes began focusing, his heart rate began to rise.
“Oh no!” he cried. “I’m late!” Jumping out of bed fully dressed, he rushed down the stairs and zoomed past his younger sister Kimberly, who was innocently eating cereal in front of the television in the living room. Only inches from the door, he was grabbed firmly by the back of his collar.
“Darian…” the boy’s mother chimed.
“Mom!” Darian whined. “If I don’t meet Professor Willow I won’t be eligible to receive a Pokemon!”
“I believe that Nancy will understand that you have to eat your breakfast first,” she said. Darian’s Mom was still holding on to his collar as tears began to well up in her eyes. She then hugged Darian tightly and began sobbing. “Please come and visit us as often as you can,” she cried aloud. Kimberly came from the living room and hugged as much of her older brother as she could.
“I’m going to miss you Darian,” Kimberly squeaked.
“I’m going to miss you guys as well,” he replied. Softly breaking away from his family, Darian grabbed his knapsack off the ground and threw it over his shoulder.
“Don’t worry, I’ll come and visit,” he said. “More often then Shadow ever did,” Darian muttered under his breath. Messing up Kimberly’s hair, then kissing his mother on the cheek, he opened the door to a beautiful spring day and took his first step as a Pokemon Trainer.
Professor Willow’s laboratory was only three blocks away so he began sprinting. Closing in on the lab he noticed someone, or something hiding in the trees not to far from the lab. Stopping to see if he could make out who or what it was, he pulled out a black baseball hat to block the sun's rays from his eyes. He could make out the outline of a giant bird and a kid, but what caught Darian’s attention was the hulking Pokemon behind them. Darian’s curiosity would have normally made him go in and investigate but he was too excited to get anything off his mind but receiving his first Pokemon.
When the sleek silver doors slid open, Darian received a big gust of wind to the face. A younger trainer’s tiny bird Pokemon, Pidgey, was obviously disobeying it‘s owner's commands. It had begun flapping it’s wings furiously. “Recall that Pidgey!!” a female voice shouted. The small boy attempted to recall the Pidgey but he missed. Pidgey had dodged the red beam of light which would bring it back inside it’s Pokeball. The trainer fired again and this time he was successful. “Good job Billy, but your going to need to be able to co-operate with your Pokemon before you can get stronger. You and Pidgey are going to have to work as a team if you’re ever going to get far in the Kalen League.”
“I’ll do my best Professor Willow,” he replied.
“I’m sure you’ll do fine,” she said with a smile and gave the boy a pat on the back. A girl named Sarah, who Darian had grew up with, had just passed him holding a Pokeball. She was a year younger than Darian and they had been neighbors for quite some time. Darian tried to wave to her but she sort of slipped out of view, thanks to all of her friends huddling around her. They were all chatting amongst themselves. Not intending to eavesdrop, Darian overheard a few words that caught his attention.
“Why did you choose that one?” the first girl asked snobbishly.
“Well you’ve got to admit it’s cute,” the second one retorted
“I personally wouldn’t have chosen that one,” the third said dryly.
“Well I for one am happy with my Azurill,” Sarah said with a smile, cuddling the small blue Pokemon in her arms. Sarah easily stood out in the group. She wore a blue checkered summer dress, black stockings with yellow shoes, which she tried to match to her amber colored eyes. She then looked up and noticed Darian through the crowd. When their eyes met, she gave him a smile and intended on making her way over but her friends prevented her from moving. Suddenly someone put their hand on his shoulder.
“Ah, Darian, you’ve finally arrived. You’re lucky we still have four Pokemon left,” Professor Willow proclaimed, as Darian spun around.
“Wow, four still left, that’s quite a lot,” Darian said enthusiastically.
“Well If you had arrived when you said you would, you could have chose from the thirty seven different Pokemon we had this morning.” Darian’s jaw almost fell to the floor. He was starting to feel stupid for not waking up in time but when he looked up at the Professor, there was a sparkle in her eye.
“Follow me Darian,” The professor said with a beckoning finger. Darian followed her and was led to a big room with machines and assistants everywhere. "I supply first Pokemon to trainers from all around. I don't always have the rarest or strongest Pokemon but it's the bond that develops between trainer and Pokemon is what is most important." Through a window, there were two assistants and a nurse trying to hold down a Jolteon for treatment. He had seen pictures of the spiky yellow lightning Pokemon before, but had never seen one up close. Professor Willow cleared her throat loudly and Darian re-averted his gaze to the metallic box now before him. The Professor reached in and picked up a Pokeball.
“This one’s a Cleffa,” she said, setting the ball on a tray. A screen behind the professor lit up and a picture of Cleffa appeared. She then reached in for another.
“This one’s a Chikorita. I'm surprised no one picked this one to be honest.” The screen now split in two and a picture of the leaf Pokemon appeared. Again she dipped her hand into the box and chose another Pokeball. “And this one is a Gastly.”
Darian was wishing that the last Pokemon would be a fire type, fire was his element. His face lit up instantly when she announced the final Pokemon to be chosen from.
“Last but not least,” a smile formed on her lips, ”Charmander.” Some of the assistants could have sworn Darian had jumped six feet into the air. He took the Pokeball and hugged the Professor.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank y…” the Professor just smiled and laughed.
“I knew you would like this one."
“How did you know?”
“Well, a year or two ago your brother told me that I should save a Charmander just for you, or any fire type I could find, if not that one. It’s funny, your mother was the first one to tell me about which Pokemon your brother would want.” Darian could already picture himself and Charizard battling against his brother and his Pidgeot. Darian only knew one of his brother’s Pokemon. Last Christmas eve, he could remember Kimberly asking their mom if Shadow would come home for Christmas that year, since Shadow had written to her promising he would stay an entire week. His mom’s response was that he must have been caught up with something, being a trainer and all. She sobbed silently to herself as the doorbell rang. Neither Kimberly or Darian volunteered to go just to hear carolers, so their mom went. Holding back tears she opened the door and there he was, gently combing his Pidgeot’s feathers with his hand. “Mom was so happy that Christmas…” Darian thought to himself, then a brilliant question came to mind.
“Which Pokemon did my brother take when he was here?” The Professor looked up out of a window, trying to recall the day, years ago when Shadow received his first Pokemon.
“Well Professor?” Darian asked hastily. The professor snapped back into reality and smiled once again.
“Shadow chose a Totodile...”
