This is a story with a rather cliched premise: The Pokemon world and our World are being merged. The real world wakes up one day to find wild Pokemon all over. Some people find a pokeball in their pocket and discover they've been made trainers. I am hoping to not be the only person that feels I've put a unique spin to it. This story is being done not only as a form of entertainment for the reader, but also for myself. I am treating this story as a journey of self-exploration, how would I act in these situations, honestly, if I actually CAN be honest with myself. I've done my best to stick to realism, and that includes with myself. It may be rambley at times, but I think it gets pretty good.
So here's a story of a man who hates his job and wants to make his family proud, a pokemon in a new world who's goals are heretofor unknown, and a bumbling man that can't get a break.

I think the Teen rating fits, but i'm not 100% sure. There's fighting in chapter 2, but cigarette smoking in this chapter (and probably later ones as well). So I'm not entirely sure. I figure cigarettes count in the mild drug usage listed in the guidebook for teen, so it should be good.
If you want to read Chapter 2, it's in my blog, along with this chapter. I need to review it all a bit, but I'd like to see what you all think so far. I may have a few spelling errors, as this computer doesn't seem to have a working spellcheck, but I am pretty good about catching most of my errors.

So here we go: With rambles, too many commas, and not nearly enough description; I present:

Dark Moon Rising - A Title I just made up a few seconds ago.

Chapter 1: A Merging of Worlds.

I'm 25, kind of unofficially engaged, with 2 kind-of-my kids. A 4 year old and an 11 month old. The eleven month old said her first worst word the other day, the kid's name for me, Guy. I could not have been prouder or happier. The 4 year old is not my biggest fan, mainly because I can be a bit stricter than his mom. I'm working on lightening up, but it's definitely taking some time, sometime I should get there. I work a part time job, it isn't enough to get by, but somehow I've managed. Luck and Mooching, mostly, and I am definitely not proud of it.

That's who I am. I live in the real world. I fart around playing video games at work, I get my kid to watch old episodes of Pokemon, I never get enough sleep. I'm not a great person, I've done some bad things in the past, I've had bad things happen to me. I do believe I have a pretty good set of ethics, or at least strong opinions. I believe I have a good sense of right and wrong, even if I don't always follow it. Maybe that's why I was one of the first. Maybe. I have no idea what other reason it could've been.

My story starts with a cigarette, burning under the hot Florida sun.

Sitting on the bench outside work, leaning my head back against the wall, I take another drag, holding it. As I exhale, I look out across the parking lot to the woods that border the mangrove swamp on the Gulf. I'm exhausted. It's been weeks since I've had more 5 hours of sleep in a night. It's been worse the past few. I stretch, and inhale another puff of smoke. My hands settle on my legs, and I feel something unfamiliar in my left pocket. All I had in there was my wallet, but now I feel a small ball in it. I reach in and slowly pull out a little red and white ball. I stare at it. Where did it come from. Obviously it's a Pokeball. But I didn't put it there. It doesn't feel like a toy either, it's heavy, probably made of steel, and it's tiny, like the miniaturized versions from the show. I press my thumb to the button in the center, and it expands to fill the palm of my hand. I nearly need new pants. I look around, a gigantic grin on my face. This is impossible. This is the best dream ever. I'm gonna push it to the limit.

I toss the pokeball in front of me, and it opens. A bright flash of light. And there.... Wait what? I'm standing in front of myself.

I sit there, confused. Then it dawns on me. This is a dream. My grin falls off my face. My doppelganger looks at me, confused. Then smiles and begins to glow a light blue. It's image is lost in my mind to this dull glow as it begins to shrink. The glow fades, and my grin returns. A Zorua stands before, with a little tuft of blue hair atop his head. He pants a little, and bares his tiny fangs, then gives me what is unmistakably a smile, a little sheepish, but a smile nonetheless.

I stand up and walk towards him. He looks nervous for a moment, then hops towards me.

"Hi there, little buddy." I whisper, my voice cracking from excitement, as I kneel down and scratch behind his ear. He smiles and puts his front paws on my knee. pushing his head against my fingers. "Zorua. You, my boy, are amazing. And your hair matches my tattoo. I hold out my arm and show him the cyan rose on my forearm, he sniffs it, paws at the thorns, then growls a little. Suddenly the rose is moving, wrapping around my arm and growing larger. "Woah... Buddy, that is pretty cool." He yips proudly and the rose illusion vanishes. His face droops, seemingly sad that he dropped the glamour. "Don't worry, Zor, you'll get better with time." I stand and look back at the store I work at, let out a short laugh. "Screw this place, let's go have some fun, buddy."

We walk to the parking lot and I stop to look down at Zorua. Here's the first test, Zor. You're a pokemon. Pokemon aren't real, at least they weren't before you showed up. Do you have any idea how you got here?"

The word 'No' appears in bright red letters above his head.

"Well, that's a nifty way to communicate. You can only really say your name, right, just like in the anime?"

He tilts his head, says "Zorzoru" and a green 'Yes' appears above him.

"Probably no idea if there are more like you, huh?"

A red 'No' appears above him, morphs into a green 'Yes', he frowns, and switches between them again, then it becomes 'Yes More' in red and green. I can feel the excitement building in me.

"Did this world.... Are there.... Zorua, if I were to walk into that forest over there with you.... would we find some more pokemon?"

'YES!' appears above him in flashing green letters.

I let out a slow exhale. "Well then, let's go get em, buddy."

I take off at a run for the woods. Suddenly, I'm flying through the air. I land on the pavement and skid forward.

"Ow..." Zorua comes running up to me, yipping and facing behind me, growling at something. I turn my head and see a black bag. "That...wasn't there a moment ago..."I push myself up and slowly walk up to it. Zorua is behind my legs, growling at it. "Buddy, your pokeball magically appeared in my pocket not 20 minutes ago. I'm not too nervous about a bag appearing now." Zorua stops growling, but still peers suspiciously around my legs. I bend over, pick up the bag and open it. "HA!" Inside, I find what I can only describe as a trainers starter kit. 10 pokeballs, a couple bottles of potion, right out of the show, a rope, and some bandages. Then I notice the hidden pocket. Slowly, I unzip it. A small steel case sits inside. I take it out, and set the bag on the ground, gently unclasping the case. Two cards sit inside, with a letter between them. The first card looks like an ATM card. I raise my eyebrows. 'Mauville Bank and Trust' is written in stylized lettering on the front. Beneath that, in small letters are an account number, beneath that, my name followed by a 5 digit number. The other card has a picture of me, the same one from my Drivers License by the looks of it, my name, and that same 5 digit number. 'Trainers License' is written across the top in block letters.

My hands are shaking as I unfold the letter.

'Hello there! Welcome to the world of Pokemon! My name is Oak! People call me the Pokemon Prof!

Well, no, it isn't and they don't, but that's what you were expecting to read, isn't it?

In truth, my name is none of your business. Suffice it to say that this world is now inhabited by creatures called Pokemon. I have brought these creatures to your world as an experiment. My world has always had pokemon, supposedly Pokemon created my world. But in your world, people created Pokemon as a form of entertainment. It's eerie how much of my world your people managed to describe while thinking they were creating fiction.

I have brought pokemon to your world in order to see the true nature of both people and pokemon. In a world where one is foreign to the other, who will rule the day. Will the pokemon break free and take over, will the humans view them as a threat and eradicate the pokemon? Will they learn to coexist as they have done in my world? I want to see what happens. I will be watching.

Good luck. Enjoy the supplies. You will find the Mauville Bank card to contain 10,000 in funds. If you battle another trainer, you can win more, or lose some. Soon you will find places to use the card to purchase more supplies. As my experiment progresses, your world will expand. More from my world will appear there.

This should be fun. '

At that moment across the globe, pokeballs appeared to a large number of people. Few of them had anything in common. A good portion of them weren't even fans of the series. Each one received a single pokemon, and each one soon found wild Pokemon all around their home towns, as well a similar bag, with similar contents, including the cards and a copy of that letter. They are the first Pokemon Trainers in this world.

Somewhere far above the planet, a small pokemon, with a little silver collar around it's throat, spins a golden hoop around it's wrist, tosses it up and passes through it, disappearing.

Chapter 2: The Luck of the Draw

A few miles away from Angel and Zorua, an old man stands beneath a bridge, his fishing line in the water. So far, the catch had been slim that day. A couple small Bluegill and a rather mean snapping turtle he'd had to cut the line on. It had been hours, and he was getting annoyed. He stood there, for another 10 minutes without a single tug, before he decided to give up. He sighed, and started reeling the line in. That's when he felt it. A sharp tug, strong. He smiled from ear to ear, it felt like a big one. He wiggled the pole a little, and the it tugged again. Then it started pulling. At first he almost lost the pole, the strength of this fish. He grew a little nervous, it'd be just his luck to have hooked a damn alligator to round out his day. He firmed his grip, pulled on the pole a little to test it, felt the answering tug on the line and yanked. The surface of the water broke with a huge splash, and a giant red fish came soaring towards him. He stared at it, dumbfounded, dropping his pole when it hit him in the face. He fell back, and stared. He had no idea what it was, but it looked like he'd eat well that night. It wouldn't fit in his bucket, so he swung it over his shoulder next to his pole, picked up the bucket of Bluegill and started walking, chuckling to himself. Then he felt the fish begin to fight. It slapped its tail against his back, hard. It hurt, but it didn't bother him. He swung it up over his head and slammed it on the ground. "There, that oughta kill it" he thought.

Quite obviously, he was wrong. The fish slapped its tail weakly on the ground a few times, and he frowned, then it slapped again, bounced into the air, and landed back in the river. He dropped his pole and the bucket with a clatter. "Damn it!" Then he noticed the glow. The water where the fish had fallen in began to balloon outwards, rushing away in all directions as it bubbled up. Gyarados reared it's head out of the water and roared at him. He screamed and ran for his life. Tripping over the bucket and leaving his pole behind.

"Never again! I am never going fishing again!" he panted, a mile away from the river. He sighed. "Maybe I'll have better luck hunting with Carlos, instead."

I'd been wandering with Zorua in the woods for half an hour before I saw one. A Wingull. It sat atop a tall tree, drying it's wings. I stared at, adrenaline coursing through my veins. "Let's do it, Zorua." I readied myself to call out my first battle order as a real pokemon trainer, then faltered. "Uh... Zor... Do you know any moves that can hit it from here?"

A red 'No' appeared above it's head.

"Crap... Uhm... actually... I... don't have a clue what moves you know at the moment. Uhm... Crap. I wish that bag had had a Pokedex. Hm.." I look at my surroundings for a minute, thinking. "Hmm! This might work." I pick up a rock, a little smaller than a plum, rear my arm back and throw it as hard as I can at the Wingull. "Safari Zone Style." I chuckle.

However, the rock falls short of the Wingull, and simply shakes some of the branches beneath it. It looks down and stares at me, before flapping its wings, taking off and soaring away.

"Damn. That didn't go quite as planned." A red 'No' appears above Zorua's head as it giggles. "Really, now you're gonna be a jerk. I don't see you helping."

It scowls at me, paws at the ground, then sniffs the air, before taking off into the trees. "Wait up!" I call, running after it. 20 Yards away, Zorua crouches, growling. Ahead of him, I spot it. A Surskit stands beneath a bush, glaring at Zorua.

"Oh Yeah! Here we go! Ready, Zor?" He yips at me. "Get him! Zorua, use Tackle!"

Zorua turns it's head to glare at me, tapping its paw.

"Huh... No Tackle, huh? Well then, how's about, Scratch?!"

Zorua grins and runs at the Surskit, it's claws glow lightly as they unsheath from his paw. He jumps, and suddenly another Zorua jumps out of a bush to Surskit's left, the one I'd been ordering fades away as the scratch attack hits the side of Surskit's face. It's knocked away, but jumps back quickly, firing off a Water Gun that hits Zorua right in the face and knocking him backward. He pops back up and growls at Surskit. "Leer Attack, then Fury Swipes if you've got it." Zorua nods and fires off a strong glare at Surskit, his eye's glowing lightly. Surskit shivers as Zorua jumps again unleashes a flurry of scratches with his claws. Surskit falls back, then slaps a clod of mud at Zorua before turning and running. "Zorua! Pursuit!" Zorua takes off at a run, a black glow forming around him. He jumps and tackles the Surskit, biting one of it's legs. The Surskit, crushed under Zorua, shudders, and fully collapses.

"Huh.... I guess we won. Surskit would be a pretty good addition to the team, I guess." I pull a pokeball from the bag at my side. "Surskit! I choose you!" I throw the ball at it. It hits, then rolls away. Nothing else happens. Zorua frowns, and starts to look nervous, he pokes at with his snout. "Uh... I guess it fainted....? So it can't be caught...? Hmmm..." I walk over and crouch down, placing a hand on its underside. Zorua whimpers, looking sad. I wait a moment, then feel it. "Yep, it has a pulse, so we didn't kill it." Zorua let's out a sigh of relief and a happy yip. "But I guess game rules apply for catching... weird."

A loud shrill hissing suddenly fills my ears. Zorua flinches at the sound, and we both look up, a Masquerain is tearing through the tree branches towards us. "Zorua... you think you can take that thing?" A red 'Nope' appears above it's head. "Let's run then."

We scamper together over branches, tearing away from the Surskit as it's mother lands next to it. The Masquerain nuzzles the small body with its face, then crouches over it, glaring at us as we run.

Eventually, we hit a small clearing and stop. I stumble and bend over, panting hard and clutching a stitch in my side.

Zorua barks happily, running around and around my feet.

"Ugh" I groan, "A lot more exercise than I'm used to. I collapse onto my butt and sit there, letting Zorua run around a little more before he plops down next to me, panting lightly. "Well then, that didn't go as planned." A red 'Nope' appears above him. "Now what?" That's when the pinecone hits me in the head. "Ah!" I jump up, swiping at my hair. I look around and spot our next challenge. A Sentret hangs from a tree branch above us by it's tail. "Hey, get down here. You wanna throw things at me, fine, but make it a fair fight, ya jerk!"

"SennSennSenn!" It laughs, then throws another pinecone. Zorua leaps into the air in front of me, hitting the projectile with a Scratch attack and knocking it back at the Sentret.

"Hah! Good move, buddy."

"Sent!" It growls, then swings and pirouettes from the tree, landing in front of us. It stretches out it's claws, glaring, and growls again.

"Let's do this, Zor! Fury Swipes!" Zorua leaps at the Sentret, and swings its claws toward it, but the Sentret parries with its own Fury Swipes, matching Zorua strike for strike. Zorua jumps back, smiling at it's foe. "OK, that didn't work. Hmm. Zorua, use your illusion powers, make a bunch of copies of yourself, use Double Team!" Zorua cocks it's head, thinking, then the copies begin to appear, surrounding the Sentret.

"Sent..." It tackles the Zorua to it's right, but passes right through. "SENT!" It begins to charge through the Zorua copies, firing off a scratch attack at each one. Then it stumbles, reeling back. Another Sentret stands before it. "Sent Sentret?" It looks uncertain.

"OK, That energy you channeled for Pursuit, do it again! This time channel it into a roar. Use Snarl!"

The little black tail on the back of this new Sentret twitches, then is enveloped in a black glow.

It pulls it's head back and down towards it's chin, as it glows it resumes it's true form.

"ZORU-AH!" The dark energy fires from its mouth and smashes the sentret in the face. It reals back, surprise and pain covering it's face.

"Quick, before it recovers, use Fury Swipes again!"

Zorua leaps forward and swings it's claws, tearing Sentret across the face, slashing it over and over. The Sentret falls back and Zorua pulls away. "Good. Pokeball, Go!"

I throw a Pokeball at the Sentret, it hits, bounces up, and opens. That familiar red glow shoots out and envelops the Sentret. It's absorbed and flies into the ball, which closes and falls to the ground.

The ball shakes once. Twice. Three times. Then opens, and the Sentret flies out at Zorua, hitting it with a scratch attack, before scampering up a tree.

"No! Zorua, Pursuit!"

"Zor!" It charges at the tree, glowing black once more, it jumps, hits the tree paws first and sinks its claws in, then rears back and pulls upward, throwing itself up at the fleeing rodent. Zorua barely manages to get to it's tail, biting into the soft fur dangling above it.

"SENTRET!" It yells, violently shaking its tail while trying to climb higher. Zorua growls, trying to bite down harder, but the hairs rip out of the tail and Zorua falls away, spitting out hair as it growls at the little bald patch on the tail of the laughing Sentret. I run forward and jump, catching Zorua before falling and hitting the ground hard. I managed to hold the little fox up and protect him, but my ribs sure felt bruised.

"You ok, little buddy?" I grunt a little as I sit up.

"Zor." It nods curtly, then nuzzles up to me. Above it's head blue letters appear, 'Thanks'.

I nod. "Anytime, bud, I'm not gonna let you get hurt like that if I can avoid it." I groan as I shift my body and pain shoots from my ribs. "I think that's enough for now though. Let's head back.

Half an hour later, we break the tree line, and are once again in the parking lot behind my work. As we head back towards my van, we pass an empty car that's emitting an odd buzzing sound. I look over at it and stop.

"How about one more fight, Zor. I'd really like this one."

Zorua looks over at the car, squints for a moment, then nods.

"OK, Zorua, we don't wanna faint the little guy. Good news, he should resist this. Snarl!"

Zorua brings its chin down to its chest as its growl grows louder and he starts to glow. "ZOR!" He fires the burst of dark energy and it hits the tiny little yellow spider clamped onto the cars hood.

"Tik!" It pops off the hood with a high squeak.

"Scratch attack! Pin it to the ground."

Zorua leaps and lands on the little bug, it claws crushing the squirming body to the ground. "Tik! Tik! Joltik!" It squeaks.

"OK, Zor, one more Scratch!"

Zorua squeezes the bug in its claws and pulls its paw sharply up tossing him skyward. "Tiiiiiiiiiikkkk!" It squeaks as it begins to fall.

"Zor-" It slices its claw through the Joltik, landing a few feet away.

"Perfect. Joltik, get in the damn ball!" I throw my 3rd pokeball of the day at it and miss. Zorua laughs, jumps and headbutts the ball, knocking it back at the Joltik and hitting it right before it lands. The red light absorbs the tiny bug and flows back into the pokeball, which shuts and lands on the ground.

It shakes, once, twice, three times.

It clicks. The red glow of the button fades with a soft 'Ding'.

"Ha! Yeah! Joltik, you're mine!"

I run forward and pick up the ball. Zorua barks happily, running circles around me.

I let out a slow sigh.

"Here's hoping this isn't a dream, little buddy, because this is amazing."

Slowly, we start walking back to my car. "You need a rest, Zor?"

'Yes' appears above his head, the green lettering is pale, almost like it's faded.

"OK. Return." I nod as I hold up his Pokeball. I smile at the little ball that changed my life. The little etching above the button, almost like a crescent moon with the points facing upward, seems to glow slightly.
